“A home from home by the sea”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 14, 2012

We have just returned from a four day trip to Essaouira stating at Riad Baladin. Essaouira is a wonderfully relaxing and interesting destination and we can't think of a better place to stay than the Baladin. Nicole met us from the bus station with her beautiful dog, Carlito, and walked us back to the riad where she welcomed us as if we were guests in her own home. We had a lovely room, with a fire which we lit every night and enjoyed getting cosy after an hour spent in the riad's lovely candle lit hot tub. The riad is decorated in Moroccan style with a chic, elegant, minimal European twist. We would particularly recommend joining Nicole on a personalised excursion along the coast where you can eat fresh fish right by the sea in an atmospheric fisherman's shack. Nicole gave us lots of recommendations for great places to eat and things to do. We particularly liked Cafe Caravan and Elize, where the food was top notch and served in funky settings. All the staff at the riad are friendly and efficient. This is definitely a place we plan to return.

Room Tip: All the rooms looked good to us.

We stayed here at the beginning of January for 3 nights, and loved it. We were in the top room, on the terrace - which was gorgeous, light and airy. The whole place is very stylish; white walls, comfy cushions and antiques. There are great views from the two top terraces over the town, and you can see the sea from the top one. A great place to hang out (when it's not too windy). We really enjoyed the candle lit jacuzzi in the evening too; very relaxing. The riad itself is in the heart of the medina, close to the souks, sea and restaurants. We found a lovely vegetarian place just a couple of doors away. Nicole, the owner was great - she made us feel welcome and gave recommendations of the best places to eat, visit and watch the sun set. She spoke english (french, italian, german and swiss german) fluently. I would definately recommend this place to friends and family, and hope to return again one day.

Staying at Riad Baladin made a great difference to our visit to Marocco. Nicole Pavlin, who runs the riad, is an excellent host and has lots of fantastic tips for things to do in and around Essaouira, as well as Marocco in general. The rooms are very prettty and nicely decorated. The riad is lovely and weather permitting breakfast is served on the roof terrace, which has amazing views over the city. The staff are friendly and very professional. Highly recommended!

The Riad Baladin is one of the nicest and most beautiful places to stay in Essaouira. With a beautiful design decor and a wonderful manager that helps you out in every way she can, you can not ask for more. The rooms are spacious and clean, the bed was to hard for my back but my husband liked it. The shower was not powerful enough and the wifi did not once worked for my Iphone, but you can always borrow the managers computer. The terrace has a wonderful view over the medina, the harbor and ocean where you can have a great and filling breakfast!

Riad Baladin is absolutely gorgeous! It was a peaceful and tranquil place to stay after the craziness of Marrakesh.
The rooms, the lounge, the terrace everything has been done with such attention to detail. You can't help but want to stay there (in fact we extended our stay in Essaouira because of it).
All credit to Nicole who made the Riad and the whole experience in Essaouira so memorable. Her warmness and knowledge of the area are priceless. She is the perfect hostess and her staff do not let her down! We loved it and definitely recommend it!
If we ever go back to Essaouira that's where we'll be staying! For sure!
Oh! And you must must try restaurant Baladin! It's an Italian restaurant but if you want something other than Moroccan food this place does the best pasta outside of Europe!

Room Tip: If going with a partner and in the winter choose a room with a fireplace!

We stayed here for two nights whilst visiting the very cool town of Essaouira and just had the most fabulous stay. We were half way through an almost 3 week road trip through Morocco so had stayed at many riads before hand but Baladin was really in a league of it's own!

Nicole the owner is a very helpful and friendly lady who instantly made us feel at home in her beautiful riad. All is to a very high standard and furnishings are beautiful as are the bathrooms which are spotless and very luxurious by comparison.

Only wish we could have stayed longer and would recommend this gem to anyone who is looking to be in the heart of the old medina whilst feeling a world away from any hustle and bustle. Utter fab and look forward to returning!

this place is great, has been done in a laid back, beach town feel, with lots of wood and natural fabrics used in the bedroom. nicole is a great host and had lots of good info for us. the rooftop terrace for breakfast is amazing. the only criticism is that we rented the chambre amoureux that had the bathtub for two, however unless you pre-arrange to have it filled, which was a bit complex, there was not enough hot water to use fill it. normally this would be fine, but my partner is a bit of a bath-a-holic, so was a minor issue. nicole did allow us to use the communal spa free of charge in lieu which was nice. we would definitely come back to his riad and would love to spend more time in sunny essaouira! thanks nicole.

Room Tip: the bath in the chambre amoureux needs to be filled by the staff, other than that it's great.
