The Budget Ibis in El Jadida is brand new and right on the sea-front, a pleasant twenty-minute stroll from the town centre. I stayed four nights in September 2012 for 270 dirhams (£19) a night not including breakfast. Book on the internet - otherwise the price is 'from' 350 dirhams.

Everything was very clean and well maintained, pleasantly decorated, albeit in a minimalist, international hotel chain, functional way, with no Moroccan character whatever.

I was given a small room with a double bed and a lovely sea view, The room had an efficient shower, plenty of hot water, separate toilet, wash basin in room, TV with English news channels. There is secure parking.

As the two previous Trip Adviser commenters observed, in Spanish, the aircon in the rooms is unreliable and difficult to control. The other major drawback is the unbearably slow wifi.

In the bedroom, there were a few small shelves to put your things on, and a few hangers on a wall bracket for your clothes. No safe, no suitcase stand, no towel rails even, and no soap dish or safety hand rail in the shower. One stool but no chairs.

There is no food or coffee available accept at breakfast time. The 'canteen' breakfast is not worth the extra 35 dirhams.

I had a few complaints, such as a dirty duvet (photo posted). The staff are not well trained in dealing with complaints. However, I wish to highly commend the unexpected kindness of Sayeed, the technician / electrician, who went far out of his way to help me, politely refusing my offer of a tip.

I had a friendly welcome in reception and a smiling 'hope you come again' on departure.
