We stayed here during September 2013 and really enjoyed our stay at Veranda Pointe Aux Biches. Welcome and check-in went smoothly - the cinnamon welcome drink is yummy! Rooms are really well decorated - real relaxing beach vibe! We had a room overlooking the pool area. If you are looking for a more quiet area, would suggest Sandy Lane area. Food is great! Can't see how people can complain here. For a 3+ star hotel the hotel delivers! Breakfast had all my usual favorites - muesli and yogurt, egg station (omelettes), warm dishes, fresh fruit, bread and pastries. The evening buffets were a real treat with different themes each night. The fish dishes were superb and we also enjoyed the vegetable dishes and desert tables!
The hotel has a nice small beach area and you can even see some cool fishes if you snorkel around the rock formation. The hotel also has nice activities throughout the day - volleyball, cooking demonstrations, yoga, zumba, etc. Evening entertainment was also nice - karaoke, sega dance, fusion dance, mr and mrs pointe aux biches, etc.
Hotel staff are friendly and I love the special touch that they leave with the animal towels! Overall we really enjoyed our stay at Veranda Pointe Aux Biches!
With regards to Mauritius - had some great weather (nice and sunny, but not too hot). We did three trips which we booked through Northview tours in Grand Baie - which we found to be cheaper that Bradley and hotel operators as there are more tour operators in Grand Baie area and thus cheaper prices). We paid 1200 rupees per person (400 ZAR pp) for a catamaran trip to Ile aux cerfs. Really enjoyed the catamaran trip, would recommend you do this at mauritius. Had some chicken and fish and salad and garlic bread for lunch on the catamaran. Also did a swim with the dolphins trip with the speedboat, which we paid 2000 rupees for per person (670 ZAR pp). This was different...15, perhaps even more, speedboats chasing about 30 dolphins around in a bay waiting for the dolphins to surface in order to jump from the speedboat to try and swim after them. Felt a bit sorry for the dolphins - it seemed that they were getting a bit tired after a while trying to get away from the boatz...having said that my husband and I also found ourselves among the many dolphin chasing swimmers in the water! Had nice lunch on Benitiers Island (again chicken, fish, salad, garlic bread and sweet banana for desert). Would suggest you take your own snorkeling mask on the sea trips. Third trip was a South West trip with a taxi. Stops at diamond factory (meh), ship model factory (meh), a few nice view points, grand bassin sacred lake, charmarel colored earth and the rum distillery. We really enjoyed the rum distillery - had some fine rum!! Beware of the places that they stop for you to have lunch though, not so cheap. Rather have your lunch at Chamarel colored earth's cafe, much cheaper and nice view as well.
We explored Port Louis and Grand Baie by taking the local bus - so much fun and cheap!!! 30 rupees pp! Bargain! The locals also help by telling you where you need to get off. Both nice places to visit during a stay in Mauritius.
