“Superb hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2013

We took a long time deciding where to stay in Mauritius and I can stay that it was worth it. We had a private taxi from the airport to hotel. Despite the weather when we arrived we got a great reception from all the staff. Then they are there for all your needs and ever present when you need something. The service is one reason to choose this hotel! Even when on one of the 3 beaches the staff are there handing out free water and ice cold towels. We stayed in the pavilion, the rooms are of a high standard, I did enjoy the sunken bath in the bathroom! Food is very good, the choice at breakfast is huge. At night I would recommend the on the rocks restaurant for an on the beach BBQ

We just returned from a week at The Oberoi and it was really a struggle to leave. The hotel is beautiful; everything from the standard of the rooms to the gardens, the pools and beaches are just stunning. We stayed in a Luxury Pavilion which was spacious and well equipped with a lovely bathroom complete with open air shower and sunken bath. However, the icing on the cake was the service. All the staff, without exception, are friendly, helpful, smiling and nothing is too much trouble. You really can ask for anything and they will do their utmost to get it for you. The Manager, Marc Denton, is charm personified and more than happy to stop for a chat as he patrols the hotel every day. This hotel is truly idyllic and perfect for a romantic break away. Not great for kids as there is not much for them to do but that was a definite plus in our view as screaming tots would have rather spoiled the atmosphere of calm and peacefulness. One thing I will also highly recommend that any visitors to the hotel do is to take up the offer of the day's horseracing at the Crown Lodge, Mauritius Turf Club. It's a wonderful day out, open bar and delicious snacks, plus the excellent company of the very jovial Jacques Ritter and his team in the Crown Lodge box. Do go, it's well worth it! We will certainly be going back to this hotel and to the races!

Room Tip: Rooms near the adult only Turtle Pool are quiet and have lovely gardens around them but really, the...

We celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary with a 10 day stay at The Oberoi. We have been back just over a week now but the aura of tranquility and enjoyment still resonates and I just want a Tardis so I can get back there easily. This was truly our best holiday ever and we have travelled extensively. The combination of its peaceful and isolated location, the exceptional service from staff, the stunning michelin quality cuisine and the peacefulness that never leaves you puts this in a league of its own.
More words fail me but you get my drift.Try it if you possibly can and you will not be disapointed in this truly exceptional hotel.

Room Tip: We occupied a Pavillion near to the pool and the beach.

Whilst rambling through the country I stopped here for a few weeks.
..absolute bliss!!
Very friendly staff, nothing was too much trouble (even cocktails delivered to my hammock) I dined with the manager and even spent a night out with all the staff!
Food was ok, not spectacular ..maybe they need my help :)
beautiful hotel on an amazing island with a light Jamaican / reggae vibe.
Highly recommended

Dear Hospitality UK,

Thank you for this review, one which has aroused my curiosity.

I had sent you a message on the Trip Advisor link. In case you have not receive the same, may I ask you to please contact me on Tomu.Salesmanager@oberoihotels.com. Thank you.

You feedback regarding our team is most encouraging. I would be keen to discuss the dinner we had together, as well as the evening you spent with the staff. It is also the first time someone has mentioned to me that the hotel has a reggae vibe.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,

Marc Denton

We just returned from 7 nights at this hotel, and I would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a relaxing an luxurious taste of the exotic. In this beautiful tropical setting the staff can't do enough for you and are always happy, friendly and make you feel part of a big family . The restaurant staff were particularly attentive and helpful, giving great advice on the local Mauritian dishes on the menu, which were beautifully prepared and delicious. The chefs daily change of evening menu was a particular delight being inventive ,varied and interesting.
The bungalow was fantastic with a sunken bath in the bathroom, a walk in wardrobe and large bedroom/sitting area with patio doors out to our own little garden. Our visit coincided with our wedding Anniversary, on the day itself we were made to feel very special all day by the housekeeping and restaurant staff as well as with a flower arrangement delivered to our room, balloons tied around our bed, and swan hearts made out of towels; a lovely touch!
If you want a totally relaxing luxury experience where you will feel as if you have been away for weeks instead of days, this hotel is a must. Also, don't forget to pop to the spa for an amazing balinese massage .We have been fortunate enough to travel the world and this rates as a truly memorable experience.

We holidayed here in March - second time in two years. I recommend it very highly.

I am not one to praise lightly - however it is difficult not to be hugely impressed by this hotel. Our experience, over two holidays, has been outstanding.

This is a fabulous hotel that ticks all the boxes - outstanding service, great food, staff who just can't do enough for you, 1st class spa, beautiful spacious rooms all set in magnificent zen like gardens - a sanctuary of peace and tranquility.

FOOD, RESTAURANTS & BAR: We loved the food, there are two restaurants with quite different menus offering plenty of choice for a longer stay. One is slightly formal, the other more relaxed serving a fabulous choice of super fresh seafood - all grilled within view and right on the edge of the water.
There is one bar set high to optimize the ocean view - it just felt heavenly sitting there with a cocktail over looking the shimmering sunset. Get there early to get the best seats.

ROOMS:  The rooms / villas layout is designed to create optimal privacy. This year we had a pool villa and it certainly is worth going for this option if you can. The use of natural materials in the bedrooms and throughout the hotel add to the sense of calm and tranquility. My husband, who normally has difficulty sleeping, just slept right through every night we were there.

WATER-SPORTS :  Wonderful snorkeling and diving. We went snorkeling everyday - they have three trips daily out to a beautiful reef very close to the hotel beach ( approx 5 mins in a glass bottom boat). Last year we did some diving which was great - not the very best - but certainly plenty to see.

GENERAL: The other attractions for us were the daily activities - such as painting, cookery classes, mediation, walks and one particular highlight was an evening with a visiting astronomer - 'star gazing'. We had a superb clear sky and managed to see Saturn, Jupiter and many more. Definitely worth making time for - every Tuesday evening.

SERVICE: The staff are both highly professional and very friendly at the same time, there is never a sense of over familiarity, but just a deep commitment to customer satisfaction. The general manager, Marc Denton, is very visible. All the other managers are constantly keeping a close eye on things and get involved in serving you and meeting any special dietary needs. I have a gluten allergy - they were fantastic about it, baked special bread, deserts etc.

The reasons we went back can be summed-up by saying that one feels the world is a better place when staying at Oberoi Mauritius. They make everyone feel very special. One senses they are committed to doing everything possible for you to feel rejuvenated. Certainly that is how we felt, revived, refreshed and utterly spoilt.

Room Tip: All the rooms are great - a real feeling of privacy due to design of resort and gardens. Pool villas...
