We stayed in November for a week on our honeymoon after stopping off for a few nights in Dubai. We were very impressed with the hotel but the staff were what set this place apart. We both felt that the staff were probably the best we have ever come across in a hotel.
The hotel itself was beautiful. The rooms were fairly large (we were in a luxury pavillion which was the basic room but it was perfectly adequate) and we had a terrace overlooking the sea on which we took breakfast. The breakfast was delicious and wide variety of choice.
There were three restaurants and we ate at them all but our personal favourite was the 'On the Rocks' restaurant which was BBQ style (not your average BBQ because the food involved angus beef rib and lobster and grilled scallops all done to perfection!). The Gunpowder restaurant was limited to 3 tables and the menu was a 5 course tasting menu. Although it was great service (again) and unsual but tasty food, we personally preferred being outside by the beach and the sea rather than inside but this may be a personal preference.
One night we had a meal on our own on the beach and the waiting staff had set this up with a wood buring fire and candles lighting the way to the table. This was the most romantic setting and really worthwhile the small surcharge to do it.
The beach did not have as soft sand as I was expecting and the safe area to swim was a little on the small side but you could get the boating staff to take you out snorkelling over the reef which was really breathtaking. We also made use of the complimentary watersports including water skiing. Zum was really helpful after my numerous failed attempts at getting up, he got me up in the end! Jeremy, Ravin and all the watersports staff were really great and a lot of fun. Ravin was the dive instructor who took us out on 2 dives which were really spectacular. We felf in safe hands and he showed us some amazing sights.
We played tennis every day and the courts were floodlit so that was good.
They sprayed the whole place for mozzies every day so we never got bitten which is a big plus for me as I have struggled in other hotels in similar climates.
Other points are that the drinks are dear but if you bring a few bottles from the airport we ordered an ice bucket every day and they were more than happy to bring it along to the room. In fact after a couple of nights of ringing to ask for one, they just brought it without us asking then.
I could go on but I think I would be repeating other reviews. In summary, a really beautiful, relaxing place with genuinely nice people running the place who seem to sincerely want to help you enjoy and relax. Its very hard not to.
