“Great value, great service, perfect location and spectacular beach!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2013

We had a really great stay at Villas Caroline! From the minute we arrived at the airport we were well taken care of. The resort has everything you need, and anything else you want or need you just have to ask and Kenny will have it taken care of for you immediately! We were really impressed with the service of all staff members, who went out of their way to ensure we had a great stay. The beach & snorkelling are amazing, and the guys at the dive centre very accommodating. We did 2 dives with Pierre & were blown away by how much there is to see & how beautiful the marine life is!

The food was ok, as could be expected from a buffet style meal, however, we were really treated to some great food on our last night. Kenny arranged a 4 course dinner for my hubby & I for my 30th birthday, which was very special and showcased the culinary skills of the chefs.

Overall a memorable experience!!!

As south Africa is only four hours away from MAURITIUS, we visit the Island often and usually stay in FLIC EN FLAC and we stayed in most of the hotels. Most big brand names. I read about this hotel and could not believe some of the comments so we decided to come. We have been here now for six days and I need to share my experience. Best location with the biggest beach. small hotel but capable of everything and only for a fair price considering what one gets. The food is very tasty, big variety and we were fortunate to have PRAKESH , the restaurant manager and his team looking after the food and beverage. he is an ambassador for the hotel. I have mingled with many other guest from other countries and no one had any complaints. Only compliments about the quality and variety of the food. As far as friendliness of the staff, one can only speak to the manager of the hotel. His personality, helpfulness, reflects on the staff. Everyone is friendly , helpful and well trained. It is a pleasure to be a guest at this small hotel. CHARLIE, at the boat house must be mentioned. As the rest ,very well mannered and helpful. He is always smiling and keeps a watchful eye on the bathers. The presence of the security gives one that extra peace of mind. They have an excellent access control to the hotel. The cleaning ladies are the unsung heroes. Behind the scene whilst one is at the beach, they clean your room and put fresh towels in bath/shower area and fresh linen on the beds..Then there is KENNY. Very polite, helpful and friendly. He is a friend of every guest. I only learn yesterday that he is actually part of the THOMPSONS / THOMAS COOK GROUP BUT GIVES ATTENTION TO EACH AND EVERY GUEST. It is a pleasure to be a guest in a resort like this. JUST FOR RECORD PURPOSES:- I have no family or friends that are in any way connected with the hotel or any travel agency. This has arguably the best location in Flic en Flac. Close to amenities, supermarkets and the like (good Spar supermarket 500metres away). Rooms are a bit basic, but comfortable enough and they are right on the fantastic beach. Mine had a fridge, aircon, wired lan internet connection (cable can be provided), and bath and shower. All fine.
Staff are lovely (the Italians have left - now under local ownership ) and very helpful.
But the food is a weak point. I was not on full board but ate in one day - and didn't again. The Hilton is about 4km away (200 rupees for the cab), cost 1800 rupees, twice the price of an ad hoc meal at the Villas, but 20 times as good - and unlimited quantity as it was a buffet. There is also a good Chinese restaurant near the Spar. The Villas do an OK buffet once a week. Until they do that every night I'd stay B&B and eat out. I gather the full board cost of a meal is lots less than the one off cost, but even so...

Recently stayd for 10 days, very good beach, clean and comfortable rooms, breathtaking views, good food, friendly service. The guest representative Kenny was particularly helpful especially when we had a medical emergency. Worthwhile to visit.

Stayed March 2013.
This hotel is truly such good value for money and really excellent for families and even couples. If I ever return to Mauritius again I will definately stay at Villas Caroline again.

Excellent Location - Situated on the West Coast within walking distance to Flic & Flac, The Local Spar and many shops and attractions. The hotel is situated on the most amazing beach. All the rooms at the hotel is seafacing and the food was really good. There is underwater Hindu statues at the hotel which makes this the perfect snorkeling spot. Our snorkeling experience at the hotel was far better than what we experienced at Coco Island.

We booked our package through Thompsons Holidays in South Africa who offered us a Funclub package on an all inclusive basis. We had unlimited entertainment, drinks (beer & wine on tap), meals, ice cream for the kids and most important unlimited FUN!!! - Best Holiday ever! We have stayed at many 3,4 & 5 * hotels and my kids only want to return to Villas Caroline as they had a truly memorable time. You can expect value for money, relaxed atmosphere and lots of activities or just lazy days on their beautiful beach.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 403 which was close to the boat house, easy access to restaurant and had a full li...

We stayed in Villas Caroline in February 2013. My husband was working & hence needed to be close to Bagatelle Mall, which is why we chose this beach resort.

The resort is beautiful, it has almost exclusive beach access to a section of Flic en Flac Beach, which was awesome. I spent practically all day on their beach beds reading and relaxing. The Spa is good, the ladies there genuinely ensure that you do relax & unwind.

The rooms in my opinion were pretty basic. Beach access is wonderful. The staff is helpful.

Here is why I think that the service is disappointing
1. The Beach bar was not functional, if I need a drink, I have to walk all the way to the bar & then come back to the beach
2. Despite telling the Front desk Manager that we are on a Breakfast only package (on the day we checked in), he was trying to palm off a half board package on our bill (when we were checking out). On pointing this out to him, he was getting irritated with us.
3. On the day we checked in, he put us on one of the most noisiest parts of the hotel (amidst a Chinese wedding). I was disappointed that he didn't particularly care about the noise that will travel in to our rooms. We had to insist on getting the room changed the next day.

I am writing this review because it is a genuinely good place but has lost the plot with bad service/attitude. I wish they fix this at the earliest.

Room Tip: pick a room closer to the beach & away from the bar & restaurant.

2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 24, 2013

We stayed here in July 2012 for 2 nights. We had a problem with our villa when we arrived in Mauritius - there wasn't one and our money had disappeared! We were recommended this hotel.

The good - the setting is lovely, beautiful beach with great snorkelling, pleasant sitting area and bar. The room we had was a good size and nicely furnished although the bathroom could have done with some updating.

The bad - it was full of Italian holiday makers which is fine in itself but it is run as a holiday camp for them. In the evening in the bar we were 'treated' with a show by the Italian children doing the equivalent of the birdy song and other well known things for an hour - again this would have been ok at 6 pm but not at 9pm. Nice for the Italian parents but not for other guests. Whilst on the beach the next day - and it is a lovely beach with lots of beds - the staff running the childrens club treated us all to a mock battle with the children and them running around the whole of the beach, in and out of the beds with exploding cannons and shooting! Again fine if your children are involved not so great if they are not - especially if you are dozing at the time.

The food was average at best and geared towards all inclusive bland fare - the breakfast was awful.

So in all - this could be a great place to stay but at the moment the way it is run and the audience it is geared to may not suit everyone. We did hear that the contract with the Italian company may be coming to an end but it would be good to check before booking.
