Just returned from Maradiva Villas Resort & Spa in Mauritius. Had a most wonderful stay and experience. The Staff are fantastic and very well trained to look after and connect with their guests.
The food at the Teppenyaki and Indian restaurant was outstanding. Great team of Chefs who always made it a point to engage with their Guests, very proactive service standards in all the restaurants. The Villa was immaculate and well serviced every day.
Had a brilliant Spa experience, the treatments were invigorating, the spa ambience relaxing and stylish backed by very well trained Therapists. Saroj at the Spa was most accommodating and professional to our special requests, and really went out of her way to give us a most memorable Spa experience.
If you visit Mauritius, then you definitely must stay at the Maradiva Villas Resort & Spa; it is truly a world class resort with world class service standards. Will recommend to all and will be back!

Really brilliant resort - the room was great with an amazing and very clean private pool. It's a Great beach location and stunning, stunning views.

The restaurant was lovely, the food was delicious and the service was some of the best I've ever received.

The spa is well worth visiting, super treatment for my girlfriend.

Couldn't hope for a nicer place to have your holidays.

Worth visiting for a romantic getaway or honeymoon, I'd say!

Just got back after spending a few nights in this wonderful hotel. It's not the newest or most fancy hotel but it's one of the best overall I've stayed at in Mauritius.
Top of the list would have to be the staff, they were friendly, polite, and extremely helpful. They went out of their way every day to make sure we were happy. Our room had a lovely private pool and the hotel has a private me beach. It's not the largest but it never got busy so was perfect for relaxing.
Food was very good, the Indian restaurant was excellent and there was also teppanyaki counter which put on a great show. We dined out every night and loved it each time.
We had one small problem at a dinner with the wine and the problem was handled extremely professionally.
Thank you to all the staff and managers and I very much look forward to visiting the hotel again.

We have recently returned from a very poor experience at Maradiva Villas.

We suffered one significant, major incident and numerous smaller issues which are outlined below:

Firstly, and of most importance, we were the victims of theft from our Villa. While we were on our terrace during the day, 3 items of jewellery were stolen. One item was purely cosmetic but 2 rings of significant financial value and family heirlooms went missing.

The hotel, whilst providing liaison between ourselves and the police, were otherwise less than helpful. We received the normal platitudes but frankly they hid behind their view that the safe is provided for our use and therefore they take no liability. In circumstances where we were away from the villa we would agree but we were there, merely a few feet away from our door.

These rings are irreplaceable and the hotel attitude was poor and in-house processes non-existent.

We also experienced numerous smaller issues. Many, in isolation, were not particularly significant but viewed as a whole created a very poor experience and were tiresome, irritating and disruptive. A few were significant in themselves:

1. The food quality overall was poor and in no way matched the hotel websites description. The hotel admitted this to us personally
2. I had a leg wax on the first day. They took a layer of skin away which apart from being extremely painful meant I was unable to sunbathe freely. Their response was a brief apology
3. The air conditioning wasn’t effective which we reported on the first day. It took 2 days for them to respond
4. The fridge wasn’t cold. It took nearly a week and 4 requests to get it changed
5. Menus were heavily geared towards “supplements”. A typical evening meal was £150 on top of half board including a bottle of wine
6. No Wi-Fi around the swimming pool
7. No plug in mosquito killer until we asked, yet it was standard in many rooms
8. The rooms are tired. Furniture is old and some of it barely serviceable eg. Fridge , doors hanging from hinges
9. Room service was at best slow and often calls were forgotten
10. To call them “Garden Rooms” is quite a stretch. A few plants is not a garden
11. Poor service in the gym. No towels , little water and nobody in attendance

In defence of the hotel, the villa set up was excellent. The Food and Beverage Director went to a lot of trouble to try to improve our experience and for that we are grateful. However, he admits the food isn’t the right standard and when we finally met the General Manager, he proudly described how he had just started as a “turnaround specialist”. Proud he may be, but hardly confidence building for a guest. Telling us to come back in 6 months to see the positive changes is frankly disingenuous.

Having stayed in Mauritius countless times I know how good the hotels should be & It is way below the standards you should expect and is very poor value for money .

From check-in to check-out the hotel is a contradiction of experiences, both positive and negative, however you are never quite sure which one you will get on the day. The staff are really the hotel's jewel in the crown as they are very friendly and helpful. There are plenty of them working very long hours but appear inefficient and lack management direction. The hotel complex is quiet and relaxing with very little guest interaction and a private beach, although the beach itself is disappointing as it is stony with coral and motorized boats passing close to the shore all day long from adjacent hotels making it impossible to swim in safety, recommend wearing a pair of shoes if walking into the sea. As you can't beat them then you may as well join them by taking the hotel's complimentary glass bottom boat to explore the coral reef and if you are as lucky as we were spot dolphins as they swim around the boat.

The villa (105) we had was spacious but tired and could do with a renovation, on arrival the air conditioning and coffee machine did not work and a number of light bulbs were blown, once reported the maintenance staff fixed all these items within hours. Also note the free villa internet connectivity is very slow.

The spa was very expensive but the complimentary yoga sessions held here were excellent. Make sure you check that all events offered are actually going to take place as we turned up to find they were cancelled or staff were not available.

The check-in staff could have done a better job of explaining how the half-board menu arrangements worked as initially we thought everything on the a la carte menu was chargeable but this isn't the case. Make sure you discover the Cilantro restaurant, which is divided into two restaurants serving mouth watering Japanese and Indian dishes, we booked this for the majority of our evening meals as the food was excellent, a nice touch with the chef checking to see if you had enjoyed your meal and the restaurant was air conditioned.

The evening food served in the Coast to Coast restaurant is not to the same high standards as the Cilantro and as for breakfast, well this is just appalling with birds helping themselves to the uncovered buffet cereals and fresh fruit, defecating and jumping all over the tables, while restaurant staff generally chose to ignore the problem.

In summary a disappointing holiday experience as it is clear to see that the hotel has the potential to live up to the description of how it positions and sells itself to the market. It's not beyond the staff to address the problems rather than apologising for them, they would then deserve their 5 star rating.

Room Tip: Beach front and central as there are adjacent hotels both sides of the complex who play loud music a...

Not a five star hotel. No respite from the humidity mosquitos and rain except in the villa bedroom.
Room service appalling e.g. 2 hours for a club sandwich to arrive. 1 and a half hours for a simple lunch. Tea and coffee facilities un usable as cups were not replaced. Same with glasses.
Cockroaches in bedroom, beach full of stones. Were warned not to paddle in sea because of stone fish. Staff friendly but not efficient.very expensive for extras and nearly everything was extra.
Birds in dining area everywhere, perching on glasses, eating the breakfast cereals and anything not covered. Staff did nothing to shoo them away.

Room Tip: Try getting a villa with a sitting room. Otherwise will spend a lot of time in your bedroom

We had a mixed experience whilst staying here, but one item which stands out is the staff. The key to the success of this place as they are all very friendly and helpful. This resort has all the makings to be a fabulous exclusive place in Mauritius but sadly there are some items which let it down.

The villas are beautiful and spacious with all mod cons available. It was also wonderful having your own plunge pool, as we found that no one besides the kids tend to use the general swimming pool.
Having free Nespresso pods delivered to your room each day is great. Also being right on the beach is ideal, although the beach itself isn’t ideal.
The spa is very tranquil and relaxing. A truly beautiful area of the resort.
We soon discovered the Cilantro restaurant which is divided into 2 restaurants – one for Japanese food and the other for Indian. Once we discovered this place we always booked in. The Japanese food is very fresh and it is entertaining to be able to watch your chef so closely making your food. The Indian restaurant, by far serves some of the best Indian food I have ever tasted. Not your usual traditional western Indian dishes, but still a lot to chose from.
Areas for improvement
Room service was ordered and the food didn’t arrive hot. Rather the food was wrapped in cling film and then had slits made into it, therefore letting out the heat.
When the rooms are made-up, the staff should take one minute to just turn everything on to make sure it works. It is quite frustrating having items not working at check in e.g. our coffee machine had to be replaced as it wasn’t working, blown light bulbs in the room hadn’t been checked and replaced and the internet constantly failed to work.
With the beach, you can’t possibly swim in it for all the coral on the sand and in the water. You can only go up to about your knees in the water as it isn’t very deep and with that you definitely need to be wearing a pair of shoes as otherwise your feet will be cut to pieces. This resort should not be sold on its beach location as that was quite disappointing.
The food served up at Coast to Coast is dire to say the least. I have never eaten such tasteless food in my entire life. I had to keep adding chili to the food at lunch and for the couple of unfortunate times we were there at dinner so as to have some flavor – thankfully we then discovered the Cilantro restaurant. At lunchtime it is a joke, twice we were the only people in the entire restaurant and had to wait an hour for our food, despite a number of times asking where our two plain salads were. And there was no room service orders to have made them busy. At breakfast, this is just a disaster and if not extremely off putting. There is definitely an issue with flies and bugs at this hotel. You cannot possibly attempt to eat either breakfast or lunch without spending three quarters of your time trying to keep the flies off of your food. At breakfast they have a lady waving around a very unhygienic leather strap over the food to keep the flies away to no avail. It was diabolical. Not to mention, they don’t stop people from feeding the birds at the table in the restaurant. Thus you are trying to eat breakfast/lunch and you have to contend with not only the copious amount of flies and bugs but you also have birds jumping on your table. The amount of times at breakfast we were shown to a table only for it to have bird poo on it was appalling. They need to get a new chef in that can cook tasty food and address the bug problem.
Charging for water in the restaurant is a little crazy especially seeing as they provide it to you free of charge in your room.

As mentioned, this place has such an opportunity to distinguish itself on the island as a retreat, but it lets itself down in so many ways. The good thing is the staff in the restaurants but there are definitely some underlying issues this place needs to sort out. It is very far from being 5 star.

Room Tip: At lunch, hire a taxi to head into town - return trip is 200R. It works out a lot cheaper and the fo...
