“Total relaxation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2012

A great place to unwind and soak in the sun.
We went for our anniversary and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
The food was top quality with plenty of variety.
The villa was spacious and clean.
The beach was beautiful and clean. Trips to go snorkelling plus the water sports were all included which made this holiday even more fun and well worth the money. I learnt to windsurf during the time I spent here and staff were excellent at teaching and very accommodating.
The spa facilities were great.
I would definitely come back here if I was visiting Mauritius again!

We have just returned from the Maradiva Villas and despite the fact that Phil and I have travelled extensively and to many exotic locations this was without doubt the best holiday we have ever had. This place is pure heaven. We stayed in an exclusive villa, looking out onto the beach and for the first 3 days didn't leave the villa itself. Swaraj and Nishi looked after us extremely well and we had the BBQ dining experience served in the villa something not to be missed.
Bilal and Oliver on the beach kept us entertained and never stop smiling. Nitish in the bar helped us to indulge our champagne cru cognac addiction (!) and the ladies who looked after the villa for us were also just wonderful. The food in all the restaurants was exquisite particularly in the Indian retaurant. The gym was useful to keep on top of the food addiction I was in danger of having during this holiday. If you want luxury, in a peaceful and private place, that allows you to choose how much contact you want with other people and that totally recharges your batteries then the Maradiva Villas is the place for you. We will be back in 2 years time and will go in October again as the weather was perfect for us - you never know we may even go and look at what else the island has to offer next time !

Room Tip: Upgrade to an exclusive villa it is well worth it

5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2012

We spent 5 nights in the Maradiva for our honeymoon, and it has been a wonderful experience in every aspect!

The VILLA:
There is nothing to complain about the villa. Even though we have already seen dozens of photos of it and know what to expect, we were still amazed by the quality of the villa when we actually saw it. A large outdoor terrace; a plunge pool overseeing the garden with a sun bed big enough for 2 people, already wrapped in towels; free wifi; a big walk-in closet; a nice bath tub with bath salt provided; and even an outdoor shower for you to have a relaxing shower under the sun.

The FOOD:
Breakfast is excellent!! It has a wide selection to choose from, from cold cuts, cereals, bread, jam, to omelets, egg benedict and florentine. We especially like the bread basket with danish pastries and the fruit platter (prepared when order so you don't have to worry about the flies) is a very nice touch as well.
There are 2 restaurants - Cilantro (Indian and Japanese Teppanyaki) and Coast 2 Coast (International).
The Indian food offered by Cilantro is delicious. Although if you are not a big fan of spicy food (like me), you will have less dishes to choose from as around 50% of the dishes on the menu is hot. But overall I think it is worth going as the food is nice. We are on half-board and there is a wide selection to choose from without having to pay a supplement.
The Teppanyaki, also offered by Cilantro is average, though by saying average it is more on the menu-selection-side rather than the food-quality-side. The setting of the Teppanyaki is quite nice, but the selection of the menu is quite restrictive. We ended up choosing one dish with a supplement of around MUR600+, not an unreasonable amount but we would prefer not to spend the extra bit. If you want to dine here bear in mind that you will need to make a booking beforehand, and there are only 2 booking slots, 19:00 and 21:00.
Coast 2 Coast is our favourite restaurant. It has a very comprehensive menu, and all the food we have had have been excellent. A lot to choose from if you want to avoid the half-board supplement as well. We especially love the lamb chops and the mixed grill! If you go for lunch or are not on half board, pizza would be a value for money choice. It costs you MUR400 (EUR10) for a whole pizza while the meat-dishes are like MUR2000+ (and even a non-alcoholic cocktail costs you MUR350).
Drinks are on the expensive side. As mentioned, non-alcoholic cocktails are MUR350 and alcoholic ones are MUR450. The local beer Phoenix is worth trying though which is priced at MUR190. Although if you go to the local supermarket SPAR which is 5-10 mins ride away, you can get it at MUR25.

The FACILITIES:
Gym, tennis court, table tennis, bikes, spa and swimming pool.
Gym is well equipped and maintained. Rarely saw anybody using the tennis court and table tennis, the equipments are quite new and well-maintained. Quite a number of bikes including adult's and kid's size can be borrowed. Christian at the gym is a very nice guy, he will even prepare drinks for you after you have worked out!
For the spa, we have a complimentary 30 mins back massage as we are on our honeymoon, we were given the option to pay for an additional 30 mins massage (MUR2,800) to get an one-hour full body massage.
After checking in with the reception we were led to a changing room. I found that the locker I was assigned to have no slippers, no bath robe, no towels and no disposal underwear for me to change into. I went out again to tell the reception about the situation, but no one has followed up after that. I ended up getting the things from another unused locker (which I believe was what happened to my locker).
There is a sauna room, steam room and a warmed swimming pool for spa guests to use. The steam room is way too hot to stay for even a few minutes (it is at 55 degrees celsius). The sauna is maintained at a much better temperature, although there is no water bucket around for us to add water. We didn't try the swimming pool but it is a very decent pool from the look of it.
After we have changed, we were asked to wait at the swimming pool area. This is indeed quite weird in the way that we were in our bathrobes, and some workmen (around 4 guys) were wondering around in the pool area. Apparently they are not therapist of the spa and they are just checking/fixing the lights or something. I would prefer the area to be more private, or at least we should be told that somebody is working within the area.
But after we were led to the therapy room, everything went uphill. The room is very spacious with a lovely garden, not that we will go out but is a very pleasant view. The massage is really good, and after an hour of massage, we were also given 30 mins to have a bubble bath. The bath tub is large enough for 2 people, prepared at a nice temperature, with loads of bubbles and some rose petals. A very relaxing 1.5 hours, especially after we did a 3-hour hike in the early morning on the same day~
The infinity pool is at a decent size and offers a brilliant view of the beach. Not many people used it since everyone has their own plunge pool in the villa. The pool will be warmed during the winter season.

The SERVICE:
The service is excellent, the staff is very welcoming, polite, attentive and helpful. There are several occasions I want to highlight:
* Afternoon snacks including 3 different kinds of refreshments will be brought to the villa everyday at around 17:00! A very nice touch especially after an afternoon of water sports you will surely treasure some snacks!
* On one day we went for an early hike, and needed to depart the hotel at 06:15. When we told them our situation the staff very kindly reminded us that we can have continental breakfast at our villa at 06:00. It's very nice to be able to have a cup of coffee, fruits and bread instead of going to the hike with an empty stomach.
* The coast 2 coast restaurant offers mainly outdoor dining area so unavoidably there will be flies around. When the staff saw us waving and wanting to keep the flies away, they bring us candles which is supposed to keep away the flies and it really worked!
* Our flight is set to depart at 21:50, and the hotel allows us to keep our villa until our departure time which is really nice!! This means that we can enjoy the hotel for the whole daytime! And from the comments made by other reviewers, there is usually no problem in keeping the villa until departure so this is a norm for them instead of only happening in some rare occasions!

The BEACH/BOAT HOUSE:
The beach is nice and clean, and within a short distance to the villas. There are plenty of sun beds and I have never had problem finding one.
It is not too suitable for swimming due to the dead corals and speedboats around (which actually applies to the whole Flic En Flac). But the scenery is nice enough to just sit there and relax and do some sun bathing. Swimming can be done in the villa or in the swimming pools of the hotel.
Boat house is great and offers a lot of complimentary water sports. We went snorkeling and the guys at the boat house are nice enough to take our camera with him when he dived into the deeper ocean to take some photos of the corals for us. They are very patient if you want to learn some wind surfing/other water sports as well.

We stayed here at the end of 5 weeks of travel in Africa. We were looking for a place to relax and unwind and Maradiva is the perfect spot for this. The room and outdoor living is spacious and well appointed. The pool is a perfect temperature and the right size for a cool down. The main pool is large if you want to swim.
The menu at Coast2Coast is excellent as were all the items we ordered. We enjoyed dining outdoors under the stars and saw no reason to reserve at the other 2 restaurants which were indoor dining. The staff at the restaurant were well trained, professional and always there when you needed them.
The fitness centre is fabulous and we took bikes out one day for a ride to Tamarin. Christian in the fitness centre gave us directions and we enjoyed the little village of Tamarin and found the salt ponds where you can buy culinary salt ( bring cash, no CC accepted)
We also walked to Flic en Flac both by road and by beach to stock our bar with gin and tonic plus wine - much more affordable than resort prices. The walk is about 45 minutes each way
On our departure day we had a 10:30 pm flight so we asked about a late check out. We were delighted and impressed that they allowed us to stay in our villa until departure time. Not many hotels give you that benefit. We found every staff member friendly and courteous and eager to make our stay memorable.
It totally filled our bill for a beautiful place on the ocean to relax.

My boyfriend and I spent a week away for my birthday at Maradiva Villas. On the whole, we had a lovely stay and I thought the hotel was beautiful.

Pros:
- villa was beautiful and furnished to a 5* luxury standard and very spacious;
- service was (generally - see my comment below) excellent - staff were friendly and very polite;
- dinner at each of the restaurants was fantastic - we were on half board status and I was expecting it to be a little hit and miss but actually food was to (a good) restaurant standard;
- great choice of breakfast;
- restaurants were, again, excellently furnished;
- we used the spa and had massages - spa was beautiful and massage was excellent and reasonably priced;
- we had a private chef cook dinner for us in the villa - food again was excellent, chef and private butler were very professional, and they brought a birthday cake which I thought was a nice touch;
- I think there are roughly 80 villas but you rarely see anyone else except at meal times so good for privacy;
- lots of sunbeds on the beach;
- free watersports (we didn't try them but I understood them to be free); and
- tolietries in the villas were high quality.

Cons:
- whilst service was on the whole very good, there were occasions when service was sub-standard - meal orders forgotten or very slow, we rang for the concierge to come and collect our luggage on departure but they did not show up so we had to carry our bags to reception (that may sound petty but it's a long way from some of the villas to reception!!);
- we had asked reception to arrange a day trip for us the next day so they were meant to call the tour operator first thing in the morning. When I called reception to check if they had called, they hadn't bothered and I had to chase. When reception did finally speak to the tour operator, they came back to me to say there was no availability on the tour we wanted until after our departure. I then called the tour operator myself to double check and it turned out they did have availability a few days later so we were able to take the tour we wanted. I was disappointed however that, had I listened to the hotel reception, I would have missed out on the tour;
- pool is nothing special;
- room service tended to forget to refill/replace something every day (coffee, towels, soap, etc) but when we did call to request it, they were very quick in rectifying it;
- not a criticism of the hotel itself, but the beach, whilst beautiful and with great views of the mountain, is a sandy beach and there is lots of broken coral on the beach (not just the private beach of this hotel but all long the beach at Flic en Flac) so it's actually quite painful to walk along unless you are wearing shoes, same goes for swimming - you can't actually go into the water unless you're wearing ridiculous plastic swim shoes or you're at risk of cutting your feet; and
- everyone is on their honeymoon so the atmosphere is not very lively, but it is romantic if that's what you are looking for.

We were due to stay at the new St Regis which was delayed until later this year. The Maradiva was one of the hotels offered to us as a replacement & we liked the idea of our own individual pool.
The hotel & villa didn't disappoint - it was quiet with only 65 villas & nicely secluded. All villas are very close to the beach & the beach waiters cannot do enough- they bring you water & fruit and you can have cocktails & lunch on the beach also. The food was delicious- whether it be lunch or evening meal at one of the 3 restaurants (also in room dining available) it was presented beautifully & the staff were very professional & helpful at all times. It was just the perfect place for us to relax for the week- only wish we could have stayed longer. Drinks are expensive but we expected this as any 5 star hotel throughout the world would be so budgeted accordingly. We liked the Shisha in the bar, a nice touch and also the management cocktail meeting which is held every Friday night- nice to meet the people behind the scenes & have a drink with them! Special thank you to Nitish the bar manager & Wesley, Pratesh & Manish on the beach. Thanks for a great stay.
