“my stay at Hilton.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2013

Nice place to be. A good environment to stay. A home away from home. That is my description of Hilton Mauritius hotel and spa. With excellent service and good staff support, the hotel has lived up to it's name. The views of the beach and nocturnal live band and dance are all interesting. Hilton Mauritius hotel and spa is an experience worth having.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2013

We spent 10 days in this wonderful hotel - the holiday was a family celebration for two 'milestone' birthdays. Our expectations were high, but it was 100x better than we could have hoped for!! The hotel is in a beautiful setting, the rooms are spotless, the staff are amazing (always smiling and so helpful), the food was incredible (the evening buffet is an event NOT to be missed) The presentation of the hotel grounds (including the beach) was first class - there were always members of staff keeping the place clean and tidy.

Nobody could be disappointed with this hotel!!!

It was just like paradise...........

Thank you Hilton Mauritius making our family holiday so very special - we look forward to a return visit.

Couple of pointers from our experience:

1. Location - hotel is located in flic and flac which is the best location for May and in general to get around different parts of Mauritius. There are shops and restaurants 15 mins walk, Casella shops 15 mins drive, Casella park 15 mins drive approx,  30 mins drive to Quatro Buenos and Port Louis, or an hour if by bus. Le Mourne is also 30 mins drive. Tip: Even though the hotel Lux Le Mourne shows a mountain behind the hotel, this is not part of the hotel and can only be accessed via private property and frankly, there is not much around that end apart from a few hotels.

2. Transport -  avoid taxi travel if you can. There is a bus stop right outside the hotel. The bus ride can be hot bumpy and long especially if you end up stuck in peak traffic ( 5pm). However, when you compare the Rs32 pp you pay instead of Rs1800 taxi fare to Port Louis, it is a huge saving for an extra 30 mins it takes. Tip: do keep your bus receipt as there are random checks. Do ignore the bus driver stopping and disappearing away randomly. Do check the timings for last bus service.

3. Entertainment - we walked across to sofitel and the neighbouring hotels and must admit the ambience and entertainment offered was best at Hilton. The hotel has an oriental feel and looks good day time with the bridges and water fountains. However, at night the hotel transforms into something spectacular with the fire lights. There is live entertainment every night from 9 - 10.30. However, not many people watching or joining the dance floor - maybe due to low season or miserable guests! Tip: the saga dance was amazing and they managed to get the guests dancing.

4. Food - good quality balanced selection. Seafood is the freshest. Meat is imported so beef smells. Breakfast standard. Lunch is a la carte and excellent and must try even if you are not on FB basis. Dinner is themed buffet every night but you kind of get the same things. We did get tired of the meals by the end of week. Tip: staff young and not fully trained to cope when there was an influx of delegates so avoid peak seasons otherwise expect slower service.

5. Activities - there is plenty to do on the resort and it is child friendly. There is glass bottom boat trips. We managed to see the dolphins without paying silly monies to tour operators. We tried snorkeling, kayak and pedalo. I loved the aqua aerobics in the morning. Played tennis twice. Did not have time for yoga spa or other activities but there is something for everyone. Tip: buy tennis balls from Pick and Pay rather than hotel. If you are not a fast swimmer or a deep sea swimmer, see the dolphins for free with the hotel as catching up with dolphins can be hard.

6. Rooms - the rooms are spread out on both sides of the hotel. There are two levels - ground and first. If you would like to avoid long walks to your room or want quick access to beach, go for ground floor. If you want privacy, upper level is suitable. We had a junior suite which was good size. The bed was very comfortable. There was a bath and shower. No toothbrush. Water bottles were offered in the evening for refusing turn down service. Tip: keep windows and doors closed to avoid mosquitoes getting in. Do not forget your repellant spray - the bites are big and last more than a week.

7. Swimming pool - the pool is split into different sections and ties in with the layout of the hotel. It looks light green but has less chlorine than normal pools. The tiny waterfalls are refreshingly therapeutic. There is a warm jacuzzi and a new pool is under construction. Tip: towels are provided on a card system - one card for one towel - and you are required to sign a deposit form on arrival - so make sure you don't lose them!

8. Night life - being on a FB basis and the hotel night entertainment, we hardly ventured out apart from Friday night. The club Shots is 5 mins drive and is a safe place where locals meet for a relaxed but packed night out. There is entrance fee Rs 100 for guys to keep whiff whaff out. VIP tables available for min. spend. Tip: we did hear that Grand Baie has better clubs.

9. Shopping - disappointing. Cheap stuff from China and india - the likes you will find in Sunday markets. You realise how overpriced the shops are once you visit the market in Quattro Beunos. Tip: market is on Thursday and Sunday but all other shops close by are closed. Woven baskets are cheapest.

10. Tours - overpriced. The dolphin tour guarantees viewing but swimming can be tricky as dolphins move very quickly and there are too many boats to manoeuvre around.  We booked a taxi for the day and saw main things in the south including casela park, ship factory, tea factory, rum factory, seven sands, waterfalls, volcano and le Mourne. Tip: interactive tour with white lions is a must - see if it is included in your package. We paid Rs 1600 for two - entrance and tour fee. Rum and tea is available at airport but slightly expensive.

Overall happy with the hotel and would recommend to couples and families - not the most flashiest hotel when compared to the likes of Langham Hotels but you know there will always be a level of expected standards.

Room Tip: If you would like to avoid long walks to your room or want quick access to beach, go for ground floo...

I would like to create a recreational area that is not only the beach, example: cinema. your internet service could be better. your hotel is located in one of the most beautiful places and guests can enjoy a beautiful view. The shop should sell more product varieties and perhaps should create a package for customers who wanted to know the city.

We've spent two fabulous weeks in this hotel in Mauritius. To say Wonderfull is to say nothing - just a dream! We loved everything there - spa, food, night-shows, staff working there, dogs visiting the hotel, river-swimming pool, sea activities, fishing! Paradise! Wish I was there!

Its a wonderful property with a gorgeous beach and excellent staff. I would stay there again if I went back to Mauritius. We participated in tons of activities, its very child friendly and the food is pretty good. You must try the Thai Food at Ginger.

Spent 4 nights at this resort with friends. The overall experience was satisfactory- clean spacious rooms & bathrooms, curteous staff for most with a few exceptions ( the smile's always on but one could sense the exasperation at times). One thing to be careful about here is that they charged a lump sum to my credit card at check-in, a value that they arbitarily decide. While checking out they assured me that it will be reversed and then forget to do so. So one has to be careful & remember to check with the card company and then follow up with the hotel- a painful process. One can expect such carelessness from fly by night establishments but not when you are paying 5 star prices. SHOCKING!!!

Dear Guest,

We thank you for your review on Trip Advisor, we have well noted your comments and thank you for sharing them.

With regards to your comments about the credit card, we would like to reassure you that we do not charge credit cards at check-in of guests. We do a pre-authorisation of a certain amount and the amount involved depends on the duration of the stay. At check-out, we reverse the pre-authorisation; this release sometimes takes a few days depending on the bank involved. We sincerely hope that by now, this amount has been released on your credit card. Should it not be the case, we suggest that you contact us directly.

Thank you again for taking the time to post your comments and we hope you will nevertheless keep a good souvenir of your stay with us.

Kind regards
