“Brilliant boutique hotel, a perfect honeymoon!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 16, 2014

My husband and I stayed at La Palmeriae hotel for 7 nights in April. We found the hotel staff very welcoming and were always there to help. The beach setting was gorgeous and even though we went in Mauritius' winter month, the weather was still fantastic. There are plenty of watersports including on the all inclusive package including kayaking and glass bottom boat tours which we took advantage of. The food available was outstanding with different options each day.
One of the managers, Jason, made our stay even more amazing and we became friends during the course of the week. He recommended excursions for us to do in order to explore the island of Mauritius. We opted to do the catamaran tour which was well organised and we had an amazing day visiting Ile aux Cerfs. The boat stopped off so that we could snorkel above the amazing coral reef and we also went to a lovely waterfall, observing lots of nature along the way including monkeys! A must do whilst in Mauritius is a visit to the Casela Nature reserve. We rode segways through the reserve, stopping off along the way to pet various animals including zebra and ostrich. We paid a small fee extra in order to have personal encounters with lions and cheetahs which was a once in a lifetime experience! Best animal park we have ever been to. I thoroughly recommended Mauritius as a relaxed place to visit but there are many things to see and do for the more adventurous!

We were booked into this hotel as a group of 48 during May 2014. To be honest I usually prefer staying at 5 star resorts so I wasn't expecting too much from this hotel. I can say that I was honestly surprised from the minute I arrived and we were welcomed by the manager Mr. Ajay and his efficient team. On arrival we received a cold towel and mint ice tea while Mr. Ajay gave us a quick rundown on the Hotel operation and within half an hour we were in our room(which is quite an achievement, considering how many of us arrived at once).

The hotel is small and cozy and even though it was fully booked it never felt crowded.
The Deluxe rooms are a nice size with Moroccan décor. One of my main criteria when judging a hotel is cleanliness and I was very happy on returning every day to a super clean room.

The pool area is lovely and the beach is beautiful with enough loungers. Unfortunately the weather wasn't that good but we still managed to snorkel once during our 5 night stay. The complimentary boat trip at 12:00 every day to a nearby reef allowed us to see quite a few fish. We previously stayed on the West Coast and really found the beach and snorkeling very disappointing. The water on this side is much better although I wish more could be done to preserve the coral and sea life in Mauritius. We were not at any time warned about not stepping on or touching the coral and I think this is very important in order to avoid the destruction of it.

Considering that this is a small boutique hotel I must say that I was quite happy with the breakfast and dinner buffet. We love good pastries so maybe in that department it lacked a bit...the croissants always were a bit over baked and some variety there would have been perfect. The dinner menu changes every day, so we never had the same food at anytime during our stay. I didn't particularly enjoy the Chinese menu and most of the people in our group felt the same , but all the other nights there were a delicious selection to choose from. I didn't eat any of the meat dishes but the fish, especially the grilled tuna and Dorado was great. The drinks are quite expensive if you don't earn euros but I guess that is the same all over Mauritius.

The Spa was also very nice and they are very willing to arrange a package for you...at a bit of a saving. We had 3 treatments each and especially enjoyed the Palmeraie massage. Sara and Pushpa were both very good with between 8 and 9 years experience. Natasha and her team were all friendly and gave us a lovely relaxing time.

Management at the hotel is commendable and definitely an asset to this establishment. Mr. Ajay made us feel like he had known us for years and nothing was an effort for him, from arranging car hire to any queries or information we needed.

We certainly had a 5 star experience where service was concerned and if this resort fits your budget, don't hesitate because you won't be disappointed.

Room Tip: The Deluxe beachfront rooms are a must because you have the ocean right on your doorstep.

We stayed here a while ago - November 2013 as part of our honeymoon trip, the location, right on the beach offers a host of water based activities ranging from pedalo to kayaking which are free and you can go snorkeling or get a sea trip on a glass bottomed boat too, sea fishing is also available but we didn't go on that.

The sea is shallow and calm for about 200 metres so you can go a good distance in safety and relax on the water for as long as you want, the guys at the sports area were very helpful with the pedalo and kayaks and the staff in the hotel were friendly and very willing to assist in organising excursions.

The beach area was clean and well secured with security guards on the front gate and on the beach area from afternoon onwards and always round and about during other times of the day.

At night there was live music which was good entertainment and the bar staff were always ready with light snacks or to bring food and drinks to your table. Lunchtime provided a good selection of food - the shrimp was a fantastic dish and the burgers were good when you just wanted a nice easy meal in the midday sun.

The sunrise from the beach is well worth seeing although you will need to get up very early but definitely worth doing at least once during your stay.

In total we really enjoyed our stay and a number of trips around Mauritius - the seven coloured earth & tortoises, waterfall, and just travelling through the surrounding countryside was well worth doing. A trip on the submarine was the best excursion we did and I would totally recommend that.

We were on an all inclusive package but there didn't seem to be much in the way of restaurants in the locality - we were a good distance from the main city so the only other options were restaurants in nearby hotels so we didn't bother with those and stuck to the resort instead.

The evening meals in the resort were buffet style - which I would rate as ok, we didn't try the a la carte restaurant and we only really tried the on site lunch towards the end of our stay so maybe we missed out by not trying the a la carte given we both thought the lunch food was of good quality.

Overall this is a great resort with great welcoming staff and enough activites to keep travelers busy during their stay.

We spent 2 nights at La Palmeraie hotel and really enjoyed our time there and experienced incredible client service. What a gem of an hotel!! On arrival, we were greeted by the manager, Mr. Ajay who immediately made us feel comfortable. My husband had a back pain and Mr Ajay promptly arranged for medicines, this really shows their level of commitment to do their job.The staffs were great - very helpful and good at their jobs and you could see that they enjoyed doing their job. There was a great variety of delicious food for both dinner and breakfast. The waiters there even carry your plates to your table and are always available to serve you, what else can you ask for? Even though we were mauritians, we were treated in the same way as other tourists. The rooms and the hotel overall are very clean and the atmosphere is very peaceful. The seaview there is awesome. The staffs went out of their way to make us enjoy our stay. We will definitely go there again and recommend this hotel to everyone.

Room Tip: Choose sea view and avoid parking view.

This holiday was booked through Virgin and it was all inclusive.
We had a very nice time at this hotel. The beach is good and with shallow waters ideal for those with young children. With volcanic rocks in the shallows, it makes it ideal for snorkelling even in knee deep water, I watched a Lion fish, small moray eels, starfish, baby pipe fish and loads of other fish.
The hotel Is kept in good condition and clean, the rooms are clean. The food is good and you can find something to eat if you don't like curry. Service at meal times was okay until you eat your last mouthful. As soon as its in, the waiters seem to appear and take your plate away( this(this was the only bad thing about this holiday).
In general you will not be disappointed with a holiday at this hotel. I would recommend this hotel for a family or just as a couple.

Room Tip: Sea view rooms are very good.

We just spent three nights at La Palmeraie and had a wonderful time. The property is very nice, and even when full doesn't feel crowded. The staff was great - very helpful and good at their jobs. The manager (Ajay) was a pleasure to interact with.

The hotel is on a small sheltered beach with a reef several hundred meters offshore and very calm water. The beach is a bit small but that's the only knock on it. There are daily snorkeling tours that are done further down the beach, and the snorkeling is quite good.

The hotel itself is about nine years old. Our rooms were spacious, clean, and comfortable, and the housekeeping was superb. The pool is a bit small but we didn't see many people using it (other than us). Wifi is only available in the bar area, but there is good seating and it never got overly crowded.

Pros: Great service across the board. Good food (buffet style for breakfast and for dinner, with lots of options). Nice calm beach - very relaxing.

Cons: not close to anything you can walk to - if you like to get out and roam you'll want to grab a taxi and go to Belle Mare (5 minutes) or the much bigger town of Flacq (15 minutes).

Bottom line: really nice property, and service was a real plus. If you're looking for a quiet, well-run "destination resort", this is a very good choice.
