Overall I liked this place. As a previous contributor noted – it is what it is – a 3* all inclusive. The staff are helpful and polite. Jimmy, Samy and Kevin all deserve a mention. The manager (Ashok) seems nice enough and let us has a late check-out. The clientèle was 70% French, 10% German and 20% UK as far as I could tell.

The problem here is that the infrastructure is tired. It took 2 days to get the A/C to blow cool air and then it emitted a flood of water overnight. So after using a kettle to catch the outpouring, we then moved rooms as it was untenable.

The food in the restaurant is poor quality (didn’t see a prawn all week). Generally bland even when doing ‘Indian’ night, and not that much of it. Some of it truly awful.

Lovely beach over a small road. Good thatched parasols, but the sunbeds are knackered, not an unbroken arm among them. The beach mattresses are worn out and mostly split. The beach towels are threadbare and often torn. The idea of raising a blue flag for service (drink) sort of works.

5-10 minute walk into town with a variety of shops and a place to change money at a decent rate.

If you want to chill out on a white sand beach with great weather and decent booze. This is a good place. If you are expecting top quality pampering try The Residence up the road, only £6k per week.

Your comments have been well noted and shared with the Managers. We apologize for the technical issue you experienced in your room and rest assured that our Maintenance team is dedicated to provide the best service, even when the hotel runs at full capacity.

We offer a Buffet theme Night every evening, a Table D’hôte Menu and an A la Carte Menu giving our guests the opportunity to sample several cuisine and ‘taste’. Prawns are available at least one a week in for lunch and/or dinner. Lobster and giant prawns can also be ordered every day as part of our Lobster menu.

However we understand that our Hotel may have been different than the ones you experienced in the past (3 star for Emeraude Beach Attitude vs. 5 star luxury for The Residence mentioned in your post).

We stayed at emeraude beach hotel from 16/11/2012 to 27/11/2012 and just wanted to say what an amazing time we had. This hotel is beautiful, staff fantastic, Mauritius certainly lived up to our expectations and more. Our accommodation was extremely clean and very modern. Nicholas kept us entertained throughout. Ravi sammy jimmy and coco were absolutely great, What a credit to the hotel. The female chef and waitress were lovely. The food served was good, the only down side was it was rather repetitive. Bit disappointed with the AI package. But hey ho it didn't spoil our holiday. Well done to all at the emeraude and thank you so much for a memorable holiday.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 129 just behind the bar and was not noisy at all.

First, start off with the good news: For a 3* hotel, Emeraude has everything in house to have a nice, affordable holiday.
The rooms and pool area were renovated some 2 years ago, and so for a 3*, it's really nice.
The (private) beach is also very good. You have to cross a, sometimes busy, road to get there,
but that's only a small remark.

The hotel has in my opinion 2 weaknesses: the reastaurant and the all in formula.
let's start with the Restaurant:choice of food is just weak.leftovers from the evening are recycled at breakfast the next day, and sometimes even lunch.choices at the buffet always consist of: rice, baked potatoes, (same) vegetables and 1 dish. the chef makes 1 dish 'live', mostly (very small) pieces of fish. Buffet is being 'dressed' as italian (adding some tomatoesauce on the rice), indian (adding some currysauce and pickels), ... Dessert is even worse. A pity, because the restaurant area is quite nice. The hotel should change the formula and put some more quality in there. Breakfast is ok, but don't come late.
Now the worst thing at the hotel: the all in formula. first of all: That is NOT what it is, not even if you, like we did, pay extra for the 'super' all in. it gets already clear when you check in: they let you sign some sort of contract for the all-in, which means they had arguments before. And that's pure logic.All-in starts at 11, so if you had breakfast at 8, you have 2,5 hours of non-all-in. the good alcohol and cocktails are all to be paid. 'the special selection of wines' at the restaurant: not present. worse: we spotted the bartender filling up empty winebottles with leftovers from the 20Ltrs bags from the restaurant. (good) coffe at the bar: payable. only the (extremely bad) coffee at the restaurant is included. all softdrinks are from a machine, so don't expect bottles of coca cola.4 o'clock snacktime is not even worth going to the restaurant for: 1 Samoussa or 1 piece of leftover cake from Breakfast... one small highlight: the room mini bar (with bottles) is included.
so guys, please, loose the formula. leave the all-in for the Big Resorts in Turkey and the Club Meds. We heared a lot of people complaining to the bartender, who was kleerly sometimes fed up with it. Or you do an all-in, or you don't. But letting people pay extra for this, is just useless..
And letting people pay 50€ (!!!) extra for the Langoust menu is just pure theft.

Staff was very friendly. specially Nicolas 'the entertainer', Jimmy and special notion for Sarita, who must be one of the kindest people we ever met.

Overall, the hotel is ok. It has, i think, a lot more possibilities.
We had a great time, it's just a pity I can't say that it was perfect.

My family and I visited Mauritius at the end of July and decided to stay at this wonderful, cozy, tranquil little resort.

It is set upon the beautiful eastern coast of Mauritius facing a gorgeous blue sandy beach.

Ashok Moorotea and his team seem no less than members of a big family who endeavored to ensure (each one in her/his own way) that our stay was just perfect.

We booked our stay (AI) for two days and were welcomed with a lovely fruit drink and steaming hot dinner buffett. I was pleasantly surprised to see a baby cot in our room for our toddler which was clean and spacious for the bub. The rooms are a tad small and lack doors/curtains in the shower area. Upon asking Ashok the reason for this he clarified that this was the ideal setup for a romantic rendezvous but they would gladly arrange for a room with bathroom doors if required.
So i suggest talking to the management about this option before deciding on this hotel to avoid an embarassing situation for a family with grown up kids. You can imagine what a task it would be to take a shower there :)

We decided to take a picnic basket for lunch on the day we were scheduled to take a trip to ile aux cerf and the kitchen dished up lovely boxfuls of panninis, fresh fruits, boiled eggs, water and fruit juice.

The AI package included a glass bottom boat trip which showed us a world of colorful fish. The guide even allowed us to feed the fish with some bread. The kids were delighted!

The beach is just across the road.....you'd best bring your slippers as its dotted with coral.

We're not fussy about food so we were very happy with the buffett at all times. They even made me a 'Khichdi' (savoury rice porridge) for the baby as she was down with a flu upon request at no extra cost. The pizzas are AMAZING, freshly prepared upon request and lovely grilled fish too.

I agree with the other reviewers that the water in the pools were very cold.

Free wi-fi in the common sitting areas of the resort are a plus point and they even have a mini-library with a tiny collection of books right next to a PC with internet for guests to use.

There was an amazing interactive SEGA dance display for entertainment over the weekend.

Overall, if you're looking for a place to Switch off and take a detour from your routine lifestyle this is the place to be.

I'd definitely go back, minus the kids ofcourse!

We stayed at Emeraude Beach from the 5th to the 21st September 2012, as we were meeting friends out there we has emailed the hotel in advance to ask for 2 rooms next to each other - this was granted, unforunately we were in rooms 203 and 204 which were right behind the bar and pool room and could be quite noisy. To be fair, Ravi did find us alternative accomodation (the next block back) but we decided as we were unpacked that we would stay where we were.
The rooms were very nice, mini bar was stocked daily, found it a bit strange that you had to pay for the crisps if you ate them but could have free beer, free snacks would be a nice touch to add.

Rooms
Very nice, very clean, fab power shower. Balcony disappointing as its thatched and quite dark so you cant really sit and sunbath as you get no sun in.

The Pool - 2 pools, quite small and cold and only 24 sunbeds for a 60 odd roomed hotel - no where near enough. This caused quite a few arguments between the guests, particularly the French who got a little irrate on a couple of occasions. There were a few more plastic sunbed brought up from the beach bit most of these were broken and I got quite a bad cut on my leg from the broken plastic. It does astound me how people think it is fair to get up early, place a towel on the sun bed and sod off for the entire day. This became quite and issue and the security guard started to remove the towels from sunbeds on a morning if they had been placed and left. Again, this caused quite a stir when those sad individuals came back from wherever to claim their sunbed and found someone on them.- a towel on a sunbed does not give ownership and I dont really think this is fair for people to have to be hassled by others for something the hotel needs to sort out. There seems to be plently of room to expand the pool area in my opinion which would allow for more sunbeds.

The Weather - very cloudy, a couple of occasions of rain - again, there is not much room to move if it does rain as the only covered area is part of the bar and not a big part. When the sun does come out it was really hot but you can't really prejudge the weather anywhere these days. You can change your towels near the pool each morning if you wish.

The Bar - Too small really, most of it is in the sand which loads complained about sand flies and ants. The service was very slow at some times with only 1 bar person on and if he should be needed elsewhere there were a few occasions where I had to wait 15 mins for someone to come back to the bar. Not a great choice of alcohol, the cocktails I sampled were nice and the guys are always willing to make you one of their own concoctions. There was entertainment every other night - some good, some not but at the end of the day you dont have to watch if if you dont want but bear in mind there is nothing else to do. There are a couple of nice restuarants along the beach to the left up by The Wall (you will see the wall as you walk along), if you fancied getting out of a night.

The Restuarant
Firstly, Ravi the restuarant manager is fabulous, such a nice, genuine guy who goes out of his way to accomodate your needs. Gary - one of the chefs - fabulous, created some cracking meals. But - the general buffet had not really much imagination and was quite repetitive and there wasnt a difference between lunchtime and evening food some days. Each night is themed and there were a few nights that we didnt like what was in the buffet, we spoke to Ravi and he asked us what we would like and then we received lovely meals. It is a shame that the chefs are not left to create dishes as Gary in particular produced lovely food. The food was not automatically replenished and we had a 20 min wait for pizza on more than one occasion. Desserts are very bad, no imagination at all, fruit salad every night with maybe a little cake of some kind - there is so much more they could offer.
We had a wonderful anniversary meal where they dressed the table and we received a 3 course meal with a cake, so again, they are capable, so if they just upped the standard of the buffet food it would be better.

The Beach
just over the little road, very windy but there is a bar and food service if you wish. The beach is lovely, water very clear but I personally love the beach but it was just too windy to sit there all day so you had to go back and do battle for the sunbeds...lol

The Trips
On the upgraded AI you can get a free glass botttom boat trip - this boat is more like a canoe and bearing in mind that the currents are extremely strong I wouldnt recommend it for the faint hearted. Very disappointing for snorkelling as the currents are just too strong on the East side, you needed to be a strong swimmer.
The other free trip is to the Ile Aux Cerf - Island of the Deer - except there is no longer any deer there - just a few JCBs as they are making some changes to the island. If you go and wander around the island it is beautiful and well worth the visit, there is a little market with loads of stalls for all your presents and these were not over priced - in fact they are more than willing to barter. Beware that this is a free trip but you have to pay if you want a sunbed, its only a couple of quid so make sure you take some cash.
The reps have other trips you can pay for and do, bear in mind they aren't cheap, £60 was the cheapest. There is a 'Walking with Lions trip' at a country park where the adverts, flyers etc promise you have 1 hour walking with lions, 2 couples we spoke to said that you actually got a 15 min walk....and it cost £120 each...I gave that one a miss.

The Staff
Very pleasant and friendly and again I cannot commend Ravi enough for his attention.

The Shop
Small little shop packed with allsorts, if there is something you want that say you have seen in Belle Mare, the manager will go and get it for you. We wanted a bottle of Brandy as this wasnt free on AI and he got us a bottle of Napoleon the next day and very reasonably priced.

Diving
Diving school small, there is a price list but its priced dependant on what you see (in the way of Marine life). Again, the diving is not suitable for the novice diver, my husband came back with a huge gash on is leg where he had been thrown against the coral with the currents, on another occasion he was about 30m down and the current ripped his regulator out of his mouth....I could have been a widow...mmmmm....theres a thought...!! Anyway it was an experience, quite expensive tho, dearer than the Maldives for diving, in the end he ended up paying about £25 per dive.

Belle Mare
You can walk into Belle Mare, although there are plenty of taxis outside the hotel. If you choose to walk - walk the road and not the beach as its quicker. There are lots of shops but as soon as you walk in you are hassled to look at this and that which people hate. Just a polite no and please let me look around sends them away. There is a money exchange in Belle Mare but if you want a cash machine this is in the opposite direction when you come out of the hotel and its quite a walk, much easier to jump in a taxi. Dont be fooled as the reps and all the info we read said the cash point was 5 mins from the hotel - NOT.


Summary
An interesting experience, we wanted to see how it compared with The Maldives - however, its is very very poor in comparison for food, scenery, service, overall experience. Maldives, Aruba, Cuba, Bahamas were much better.
Nice rooms but the bar and restuarant service needs to be better and the food choices, pool and bar area could do with revamping. Im not at all a fussy person, its not a cheap place to visit and you do expect certain standards. However, luckily we were with friends so had a good time regardless and met a few characters along the way.

Would I go back? No, far better places for the money paid and Mauritus overall was quite disppointing to us- this is only our opinion however, as you will read lots of people loved it. You only gain experience by actually going and doing and we are all different so dont take my review as a negative, we have just found other places that were better for us.

Room Tip: First floor rooms are better, ground floor are quite dark

We have just returned on the 3rd Nov from the Emeaude after a week stay, (this was a surprise holiday for my wife's 60th). We were met with welcome glass of fruit juice and cooling towel at reception after an overnight flight, the room we were given was available within half an hour of our arrival, it was very clean and spacious. The staff are all very freindly and accomodating to name a few( Sammy, Jimmy, Coco, and Senita in the bar and restaurant, Sanil our room cleaner and Asha,Rahti in the Spa). We were both treated as special guests by all the members of staff with no exception. After reading the reviews on the hotel especially about the all inclusive package mix-up I did contact the hotel via the travel agent to confirm the booking to avoid any argument. The food was very nice with choice of cold or hot breakfast, the lunch and dinner was cooked in front of you if you wanted fresh fish or paste with a choice of veg or salad to accompany it.Our experience with this hotel was one of the best we have had with no regrets at all, we would definatly be returning in the future without any hesitation.

This is a pleasant hotel with very nice rooms and very friendly helpful staff. The location is a bit remote in that there is no where to walk to in the evening so unless you are prepared to take a taxi you are confined to the hotel. We found the food quite poor. Unless you were prepared to be first in the dining room for lunch and dinner it was a bit pot luck. The buffet was not automatically topped up so going in an hour later meant you often had a limited choice and the dishes were more often than not cold. The bar area at night was very poorly lit, relying on candles on the tables and these were not always available. Because there was only a few nights with entertainment, just to sit there in the dark was very boring and very difficult to have a game of cards.

- Emeraude Beach Attitude is a 3-star hotel offering a relaxed sea-side experience (a ‘beach’ Attitude). As expectations from our worldwide clientele are varied, entertainment is offered twice a week (duo or trio Music by our strolling Musicians, sega show or African dance & Cultural show every Thursday night…) to propose different types of ambiances. Similarly, we used candles at the Tides Bar outside area to emphasize the cocooning atmosphere, often appreciated by our guests. We invite guests to not hesitate to ask our ‘Family Members’ to provide more candles if they wish.

- We were surprised by your comment as our buffet is replenished each and every time it runs out. All food items are kept at a suitable temperature until the closure of the Restaurant. Our Chefs constantly supervise this exercise to ensure a maximum comfort to our guests.
