“Excellent Service, Very Courteous Staff, Great Experience !!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2012

My wife and I were traveling during the Indian Festival of Lights : Diwali in November 2012 and we stayed at this beautifully located Lux Belle Mare hotel in Mauritius.

We were overwhelmed with the hospitality and courtesy shown towards us: by the staff : the team of the very friendly, warm and welcoming General Manager : Mr. Ashish Modak.

Special thanks to Mr. Ashish Modak: General Manager, Ms. Sheila Maroo: Guest Relations Manager, Mr. Vijay and Ms. Chandani: Bar Attendants, Mr. Marius, Ms. Rodrigues and Mr. Aakansha: Restaurant Attendants and Mr. Kamlesh and Mr. Gopee: Concierge.

Would definitely recommend a stay at this hotel. Really impressed by the staff and services. Haven't seen a more courteous, friendly staff in any of the hotel across the world outside India especially. It felt like a home away from home.

Room Tip: For Newly weds try the Honeymoon suite : it has a very good decor and soothing for a wonderful exper...

My husband and I spent our honeymoon at LUX Belle Mare end of September. Unfortunately we stayed only for one week! From the moment we arrived we felt like in paradise. Where should we start to explain? – amazing location, beautiful and well-kept hotel resort, wonderful beach, huge pool, excellent food! But the most outstanding experience for us was the great hotel staff! We have never met such polite, careful and warm-hearted employees that anticipate every wish!
We have visited a lot of places all over the world but LUX Belle Mare is definitely heaven on earth and by far one of the best hotels in the world! Thank you for one of the greatest holidays we have ever had! We will be back one day!
Special thanks to Selva, Nitin, Pravesh, Vijays, Sanjiv, Medge and the “Bademeister”!

Vikram and sanjiv, vijay, (bar) anu, manishe(restaurant) ramess (f&b mgr)and roopes (mgr of indouchine) and all his staff, These guys know what looking after the guests is all about. If I could take them back to England to work with us I believe our business would be every bit as successful as the hotel is. What wonderful service and genuine kindness as to wether they can make your stay as enjoyable as possible. Perfect. All the staff are lovely but these guys stood out for us. We will definitely be back next year. Lunch at the beach was a must for us every day. Pure class, in the evening we loved the indouchine restaurant wow. If you love Thai food. It was top class and if we had one back In Brighton we would be going every week. We are sad to be leaving. And I have never loved a hotel or Holiday as much that I have felt compelled to write a review. Well done to the lux. You excel in my eyes

Loved my stay, welcoming staff, location beautiful, rooms well appointed. Had a wonderful signature facial by Sabrina & the lux me spa facilities r a delight. We were very lucky with the weather, just perfect. All the little extra ideas are great - eg. secret bar

Where do I start....?..

Firstly, lets talk about this review in an English perspective.

We arrived at the hotel at around 8am via a private 1hr transfer from the airport. We were both feeling a little tired and walked the short diustance from the car to the seating area next to guest relations/concierge. We were welcomed by a polite, happy staff member, with very good English. Documents were passed to her and she returned with cold towels and a small refreshing drink.

Once we had rested for a few moments and we had taken a few pictures, we were escorted to our suite. The facilities within the room were all explained and as we were on fully inclusive rate, the restaurants/bars were pointed out. Now this can be confusing to some people. You can dine in all of the restaurants as part of the all inclusive package. But on certain nights, each restaurant has 'special themed evenings' these are available as a supplement, which is clearly written in the resort timetable. So there is no need to moan, make sure you read and understand all the in room literature!

The room was very spacious and bright (see pictures) good points were:
1. A massive bed, 1 which I have never come across before. It was like having 2 double beds pushed together. The mattress was deep and very comfortable. Comfort was helped by a luxurious mattress topper. All linen and pillows were of a good quality!
2. Nice seating area, with sofa and table.
3. Tea and coffee making facilities.
4. Well stocked mini bar, of which some items were part of the AIP package.
5. Cute terrace (sea view) complete with table and chairs. Great to have breakfast out on.
6. Big flat screen tv complete with a handful of English channels.
7. Walk in wardrobe, complete with safe.
8. Hair dryer
9. Slippers and gowns.
10. Exceptional bathroom, with separate rain shower.
11. Free standing bath, big enough for 2. A good point is the indent in the wall next to the bath, holds 2glasses of wine perfectly.
12. Free, good quality toiletries. Fluffy and great smelling bath, hand and face towels. Always good sign of a great hotel!
13. Plug sockets, yes plugs! No need for adapters as these specially designed sockets take all types of plug!
14. Great getting ready area. Complete with mini chair and a well lit, large mirror.
15. Turndown service. Another sign of a great hotel. Lights are dimmed, duvet pulled back, slippers placed at the side of the bed, water on bedside table, breakfast hanger placed on bed, towels changed and room tidied.

Bad points,

1. Awful hair dryer. I could blow faster and hotter. And it was attached via 1of those annoying ring cords. Which was stiff and caused arm ache after a while.
2. No iron or ironing board. Although they do offer a pressing service. This is chargeable!
3. No fresh milk for tea and coffee.

After we had a little nanny nap, we woke up and headed to the pool. It is a large pool, shallow in most areas and has a small deep end. Other reviewers have moaned that it is not heated, but we found the temperature to be perfect for the time of year we visited, if you visit in winter then what do you expect! Now this is perfect for children but not so for adults. I couldn't swim for more than a few moments.

Now this brings me to my next negative point. Children, there were far to many of them. There is no separate pool to accommodate them, which was very annoying! On many occasions, the noise from the kids club splashing, or the equally annoying tantrums by the spoiled brats not getting their own way, boiled my blood! You can see that most couples had retreated to the beach to get away from the noise but we stood firm and placed headphones in our ears. Now if I was on a honeymoon, and wanted a relaxing, quiet holiday this would of been spoilt by the amount of children. Who brings their children to Mauritius? Was Disney world full??

Sun loungers were few and far between, the pool only has half of the area around it available for loungers, the other half backs onto the bar and buffet restaurant. So my first tip would be to get up early to reserve or get friendly with one of the pool boys/waiters and slip them some money. This appeared to be what most people were doing. On a couple of occasions we had to settle for loungers away from the pool. Service for drinks and bar food is available around the pool and there is also the ice cream parlour which again is free for AIP. We had Pravesh serving us around the pool as well as a few others and they were exceptional in their duties around the pool and they are an asset to the hotel!

Now the beach was pure Paradise with Crystal blue Waters and white sands. (See pictures)I have only been to a couple of beaches which are better, Perhentian islands in Malaysia and the Gilli islands in Indonesia! Again not much swimming could happen as the area for bathing was cordoned off and was quite shallow. Past this area, waters were deeper but this was used for water sports! There is free water sports and other activities at the boat house, get down early as snorkelling was often booked up and overcrowded with children! Hawkers do patrol the beach trying to sell gifts and a bargain can be had if you are good at haggling! They are not allowed on the hotel property, but the beach is a public not private beach, so they are free to roam.

Restaurants:

The beach. (Open 12.30-6)

This is where we had lunch every day. Menu is a la carte, and is included in AIP. The food is fresh and is prepared in the open kitchen. Good choice of food including pastas, sandwiches, Steaks, chicken and seafood dishes. All food we had was exceptional, tasty and presented to the highest standards! On a couple of occasions we did see some people complain about the wait (20mins seems too long for some people! Jeez! And also moaning about quality, tw*t in a billabong wetsuit top to name just 1) Service was friendly and efficient. I must give a shout out to Dave! Looked after us very well.
We also chose to have the BBQ here as a supplement on a Thursday night. This worked out at about £30 per person, with a AIP discount, which if I'm honest is not worth the money. The food was good, fresh and plentiful but to pay this on top of the AIP is a bit excessive. Entertainment was fire eaters/jugglers and dancers!

The kitchen. (Lunch and dinner)

This is the main area for dining, we didn't use it for lunch but frequented it for a few evenings. I expected a little more variety. It was a bit to similar. Not enough salad options, lots off curry. The beef and lamb curry which was served on the Asian night was amazing! But then seemed to be used on other nights, all be it with a different name. Desserts were good and tasty. Service was fine.

Tip: Go down about 8.45pm, its a lot quieter and food is still being replenished! Also on entering you are asked if you want wine, now again this seems to trouble some people. It's easy to say no. Or if unsure ask if its included. This will save you moaning about being charged sky high prices for it after you have drunk the bottle!

Indochine (dinner served until 10pm)

This is 1 of the restaurants which require reservations. We ate here on our last night. Served by Poonam, who was exceptional. Menu again is a la carte. 3courses, good choice of Asian cuisine. I had the duck spring rolls followed by Kung po pork and then for dessert brûlée! (See pictures) All food was freshly prepared in an open kitchen. It was tasty and presented beautifully.

Langoustier (dinner served until 10pm)

On 2 occasions we tried to make reservations and failed. So no review to post!

The bar. (Open until 1am)

A good selection of cocktails and drinks available on AIP. Beer, vodka, wine, rum to name just a few. Lounge area a bit dated and looked like my granny's front room. Service was good. Music was loud and up to date ish. Celine Dion was heard more than once!

The lux me spa.

We had 2 treatments here. The couples massage, which if booked between 9-3 you get a special price. And also the facial. Both of these can be highly recommended and are conducted in a professional manner in lush surroundings. Give the paper pants a miss though! There is also a nice chill out area, which has a small heated pool, jacuzzi, sauna , steam room and cold plunge poll. Loungers were around the pool and on more than 1occasion we retreated here to get away from the children (no under 18 allowed)

I have described in great detail above so that it can help with your research into this hotel. There are a few other things which the hotel offers which I shall list below.

1. Phone box to call home. Free
2. Coffee bar
3. Cinema on the beach
4. Travel agent
5. Shops
6. On site doctors
7. Concierge

Overall this hotel scores well, great customer service, exquisite and clean surroundings. I would highly recommend it. It's let down by a few minor details, but that could be me being picky! Will I return, yes, just need to empty my piggybank.

More staff than guests... but incredibly relaxed. Wonderful hotel. Fantastic children's club - free private tennis lessons for children with excellent coach. Wonderful spa. Beautiful beach. Excellent food will definitely try other Lux resorts as if this one is anything to go by you will find them hard to beat.
