We spent the first few days of our honeymoon on safari in South Africa and then flew from JoBurg to Mauritius to relax on the beach. Long Beach did not disappoint. As virtually the only Americans at the resort, the staff were very friendly to us and intrigued that we had traveled so far from home. The grounds at Long Beach are extremely well kept up. The rooms are also very nice. We initially had a room on the 2nd floor and asked to be higher up on the 3rd floor. The second day we were there they switched us to a higher room, which had a great view of the beach and ocean.
We were on the All Inclusive (AI) package, which made a big difference in terms of the money we spent. I was a bit apprehensive about booking at Long Beach after reading some reviews that the choices for people on AI are sparse, but let me reassure you that there are enough choices (both food and drinks) to satisfy anyone, even the pickiest of eaters. The food was really good at each of the restaurants included in AI (Sapori, Tides, Chopsticks) although the food at the buffet dinner (Le Marche) was somewhat disappointing. Be aware that in order to dine at Sapori, Tides, Chopsticks, and Hasu, you need to make reservations for dinner when you arrive at the hotel. Lunch reservations are not necessary. Also, when we were there, certain restaurants are only open on certain nights, so taking a few minutes to carefully plan our your lunches and dinners is key so you don't end up eating at the same place for lunch and dinner (even though the menus are not the same for lunch and dinner). Our favorite dinner was Tides. It has the best location (right next to the beach) and the crab meat and smoked marlin was incredible. We ate there a few times for lunch too. Breakfast is at Le Marche and wasn't anything special, although is was better than the dinner offered there.
In terms of things to do at the resort, the offerings are pretty good. I went snorkeling twice and also did the glass bottom boat ride. The snorkeling was amazing and there's no extra charge for it. There is a huge variety of fish and other sea creatures about 60-70 yards out.
If you want a resort that isn't overcrowded with people and want to feel like you have the whole beach to yourself, Long Beach is definitely for you. There were multiple days were my wife and I were the only people on the beach for hours.
The service at the resort could not have been better. At meals, it seems like you have 3 or 4 people waiting on you. The wait staff at the bars are equally as good. A special thank-you to Ven at the Shores bar for making my wife great drinks and for never leaving my beer glass empty.
We would return in a heartbeat!
