“Great value Honeymoon”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 days ago NEW

A lovely, quaint resort with everything you need to have a great holiday without breaking the bank, if you take the all-inclusive package. I would rate it 4 star! Clean beach, great for swimming and sun bathing. Comfortable clean rooms, well serviced. The front desk team were excellent, very responsive to any requests we had. The spa service was amazing. The bar service was great, lots of cocktails to choose from. The waiters were superb and so friendly. The beach restaurant was very disappointing though. Main buffet food was a much better option, nice variety, slightly different daily and no spicy Indian dishes. Desserts were not that exciting, but you could find something out of the selection. We had a candle lit dinner , champagne and complimentary spa treatments as extra gifts from management. The water sports facilities were really cool and available every day. Evening entertainment was arranged daily and on some night were outstanding!!! We thoroughly enjoyed our honeymoon and the cocktails. Merci pour tous!!!

What a fantastic experience! Veranda Palmar Hotel in Belle Mare was superb! The resort caters for everything a family could want and the staff are very friendly and always willing to help. It was our Daughters Birthday and the staff arranged a beautiful chocolate cake and champagne for my wife and I at no extra cost. We will definitely be coming back to Veranda Palmar in Belle Mare.

Small, friendly hotel. Great staff. Very clean beach (unlike other posher hotels along the same strip). Two restaurants - both open for lunch, sometimes only one open for dinner - dinner in other one on beach costs extra but is very romantic and food is fantastic at paid one. Other one - food is ok - buffet - always had a fresh meat or fish station which was a nice touch. Free water sports on beach. Random booking of snorkelling- sometimes allowed to do it a few days in advance, sometimes only day before, depending on who you talk to. It only happens once a day and is usually fully booked so book early - they should run it more often. Even if it says it is fully booked, often at the time there were spaces so you can still go. Booked tours through Raj who we met on beach or a lady (forgotten her name) - both tours were excellent and less than half the price of booking through hotel or travel agent. I asked for quiet bedroom (cannot be guaranteed) but seeing as Virgin totally messed up our booking twice, you would have thought we would get this - but we were shown to the bedroom right next to the bar! You couldn't have got a worse location (for us). We complained and they did move us to a much better room the next day. Staff very helpful at all times if a little chaotic at times (ie not all staff knew basics - ie how to book restaurant, what wifi code was) but front reception always had the answers. They even got us a doctor when needed at 10pm at night with no fuss at all. Had massage in spa which was excellent. Overall, very good value for money compared with other places on same beach. And town only 10 mins walk away - has basic shops.

Room Tip: Ask for room not near bar if you don't like noise later on (we were getting up early to scuba di...

Just returned from a 7 night stay at the VERANDA PALMAR HOTEL....first of all their staff & service is 5 star..they cannot do enough for you, and any problems are sorted out imediately was very impressed by all the smiling happy staff, they really made our stay enjoyable!

We traveled with a 3 month old baby and a 1 year old child and they gave us great cots for them to sleep in and the staff went out of their way to make our stay with them as comfortable as possible.

we stayed in rooms near the pool and bar so at night was noisy but didn't bother us or the kids we slept through it all, but there are nicer rooms near the beach...but being close to the restaurant etc was convenient for us with kids.

the rooms are serviced daily and the fridge stocked daily as well...the hotel is nice and clean and the rooms have everything you need.....we were very comfortable. Loved the bar near the pool and enjoyed their cocktails etc.

The food in my opinion was fine, i found something at every meal to eat and enjoyed it...LOVED LOVED LOVED the fresh fish, i ate it all the time it was delicious! The restaurant staff are so sweet and the service is top class.

we went in the winter so the weather wasn't that great some days and the wind was ALWAYS blowing, that being said it kept it cool so I didn't mind the wind as long as it was sunny. if you walk to the left there is a stunning protected beach there.
The beach in front of the hotel is nice, there were plenty of chairs etc when we were there and they keep it very clean and the water is nice to swim in and the sand is so soft , lots of activities to choose from some free some paid for, we went ab-sailing it was amazing, we also booked a tour with the lady on the beach (not the hotel it was cheaper) for a catamaran trip to the waterfall and ile aux serf which included a barbecue it was AWESOME made our trip so so so much fun.

The hotel grounds are kept very neat and the gardens are very pretty. It was a smaller hotel, but that added to the charm as you got know fellow guests quite easily around the bar waiting for dinner.

All in all, we had a wonderful stay with VERANDA PALMAR, some of the best service i have ever experienced at a hotel.

Thanks again for a great holiday.

PS we were all inclusive which i think is better as the drinks are pricey.

Room Tip: the rooms near the beach have great views, the rooms near the pool and bar are noisy at night from t...

Just got back from a three week holiday at this lovely hotel. Our inital impression was one of warmth and friendliness and this continued throughout the holiday with the staff offering an extremely high level of service that would not have gone amiss in a five star hotel. The hotel is clean and maintained to a good standard. Our bedroom was always immaculate upon our return each day with a beuatifully folded towel 'animal' that augmented our impression that the hotel cared about each guest. This was a special trip (our wedding anniversary and an 'early' birthday celebration for my wife) and the hotel certainly went out of its way to make us feel incredibly special. Ended up drinking vanilla rum with 'Chef' and Shiv - the front of house manager (who has got to be the nicest man that you could hope to meet). Weather was OK, it's the Mauritian winter at the moment, but we still managed to come home with beautiful tans. We had read some of the previous reviews on tripadvisor where somewhat negative comments had been made about the food. Our response to this would be to remind people that this is a three star hotel - if you want haute cuisine book into La Residence 500m down the road. Salad bar was excellent, freshly baked bread made in the hotel ovens everyday and house wine by the jug full that was surprisingly sweet and palatable. Try the lentil or kidney bean stews - briliant. If you're going expecting fish and chips and a full english every morning then this is not for you. We flew direct using Air Mauritius and were not disappointed with the in-flight meals or complimentary drinks service. Try and take a few trips and see the island. Amongst the most memorable for us was the 'tea factory and botanical gardens'. An amazing time, made all that more special by the warmth and service of all the staff involved in looking after us. We would most definitely go again.

Room Tip: Any room. We had 603 with a fantastic view to the beach.

We returned to the Veranda Palmar Beach Hotel at the end of March for two weeks. It had been ten years since our previous visit and we were very pleased to see that standards had been maintained. The welcome and service we received was excellent, our room was spacious and clean, decorated in a "sea theme" and we were pleased that the en-suite bathroom had been updated. We had fresh fruit and a bottle of champagne in our room.
We were disappointed in the bright cafe style dining room, which was fine for breakfast but we would have liked a more formal evening arrangement and weather permitting we mostly ate outside overlooking the pool in the evenings. The staff in the dining room were cheerful, friendly and the service was excellent.
Our favourite place to eat at lunchtime was at the beach bar, there was not a lot of choice but the food, service and view were excellent.
On the whole the food was disappointing and the hotel was aware of this and were trying to improve standards.
The shady gardens were beautifully maintained and the hotel beach was immaculate with plenty of sunbeds. The sea was clear, shallow and warm and there were plenty of activities on offer including going out in a glass bottom boat.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Shiv and all his team went out of their way to make us feel very welcome.
We will definitely return again and hope that some of the staff will remember us.

Room Tip: We asked for a room on the higher level and we were pleased with the garden view from the balcony an...

We have just returned from 14 nights in this hotel.
The service is outstanding and would be acceptable in a 5 star hotel. this was customer service with a smile that seemed genuine.
The rooms are well appointed and spacious affording you all you need for a good stay. they are cleaned daily to a good standard.
the first room we had was next to the cleaners station and mini bar store and was noisy. we moved rooms with no hassle to a fantastic room overlooking the beach. You would in some hotels have to upgrade several times for this spectacular view.
There was entertainment some nights quite good and others you would rather have got away from and this is the rub here there is nowhere else to go.
When we booked we were told that you could eat at the beach bar at lunch with no supplement. this changed the day after we arrived this required that all meals were taken in the same restaurant. Apart from the repetitiveness of this the food from here was not good.Food is a very subjective area and one mans meat is anothers poison and all that. The main complaint was the temperature of the food it was tepid at best and for my mind a breeding ground for bacteria.
The sauces were very watery as well as the curries and the whole affair was very bland.
you have no option really but to eat here as there is nothing around. we did complain and the chef spoke to us on many occasions and cooked for us specially . we did not want singling out for special treatment but to inspire him to produce hot fresh food for all.
The salads were often in mayo and the soups apart from a couple had a film of grease.
Right lets get all the negatives out the way the drinks were rough alcohol and the wine imported from south africa was the cheapest of cheap. to upgrade and pay for international brands would in some cases cost over £14 for 2 drinks.
The sunbeds were easy enough to get some hogging and reserving going on for the front ones on the beach. They were also wooden and very difficult to move around.
Having said all that our stay was lovely with lovely staff and people on the island in general. We met some lovely people and with the resort being so small you bonded with people and friendships were formed.
If the food was sorted out here you would not get a booking for love nor money as it would be so sought after.
did a speed boat trip vis Raj on the beach brilliant day and worth the money.
So if you are looking for an excellent little resort excellent service, clean and friendly this is for you if you are quite a foodie then be prepared. They will cook you something else if you ask though and try very hard to please. the answer is not bed and breakfast as eating out in Mauritius is expensive and you will need transport to get around
Hope this has been helpful I have awarded 4 stars and if I could I would have given 6 for the service.

Room Tip: we stayed in 605 second floor overlooking the beach
