My husband and I spent 12 days in Kanuhura from the middle of February.
Kanuhura is the third island we have visited in the Maldives but I think that we will definitely become regular visitors of Kanuhura.
The island is very beautiful with wonderful beaches and comfortable villas but what makes it special are the staff.Everybody has been very helpful and they really make you feel welcome.
Special thanks to Mr.Ramy,Valeria and of course to Mr.Vladimir Scanu. I was impressed by their professionalism.
We stayed at a beach villa the first few day but then changed to a water villa. Both were nice, but we preferred the the water villa.
The island has three restaurants and all of them are very good .The snorkelling is out of this world.
We will definitely visit again next year.

had a great stay in a great hotel. Small island just for this hotel. Stayed in a Water Bungalow, surrounded by corals and exotic fishes. Saw a turtoise under the house!
Romantic beach dinner with candles and champagne :D
Really recommend!

Our first time in the Maldives, we chose Kanuhura based upon reviews and it's "Leading Hotels" membership. Water villas are very nice, with large outdoor bathroom, room is spacious and decorated in a typical dark wood Asian style, comfortable and simple. What you get at Kanuhura is a sensational location, fantastic beaches and beautiful clear water, the main ingredients are all there. The food has been a surprise as it has been better than anticipated, with a good choice each evening in 3 restaurants. The staff have been excellent in all departments, always with a smile. No complaints........
We will come back.

Room Tip: North side of the island by the water villas has a breeze and the reef, which may suit some. South s...

My family and I stayed in a Duplex Villa duting half term in February 2013. This time of year was chosen as I didn't want to tranel this far for it to rain.Having said that, as we were landing the sea-planes wipers were on!!! Thankfully we never saw rain again.

The situation of the Villa was superb, we had fantastic sunsets. They were furnished to a good standard too.The beach was lovely. However most of the sun loungers do not have a matress BUT if you insest the can find some.

The food was very good but as previously mentioned, pricey, but hey,if you don't want to eat in paradise, don't!!

Its worth noteing, we wanted a beach villa due to its situation. You will see there are lots of urns/pots filled with water on all the jettys, it's because they get SO hot and burn your feet! You tend not to wear anything on them.Still, not a problem.

Unlike its sister hotel Le Touessrok, the water sports were not inclusive but were well run.The sea was fantastic, plenty of fish and we even say a 4ft baby shark. You may even see fruit bats gliding around, so look up to the trees during the day. The kids loved the bunnies on Jehunuhura.

Overall all the staff were very helpful and efficient, the GM Vladimir was always visable which is good to see.

If you are wondering why I didn't mak this a 5/5 its because our Butler was totally useless!!! |Repeted requests for coffee mugs, extra pillow, sunbed matress amongst other things. When we first arrived he asked what fruit we wanted and how often for ice. Every single day I had to ring him 2-3 times for ice, the fruit was hit or miss ( all we wanted extra were peaches and pineapple) but you would have thought it was from his private supply. One day he gave us some pineapple but our kids ate it as they didnt have any.I rang him for more and he said it would cost me $25!! I hit the roof and went to management who had him removed (and beaten?!!) This was a real downer to what is a fantistic place.

Room Tip: Sunset side!

Dear Tracy13_7,

Thank you for sharing your experience at Kanuhura on Tripadvisor. We are happy that you felt at home in the Duplex Villa and that you had great dining experiences during your stay.
However, it is disappointing to learn that your Personal Butler during your stay did not meet with your expectations. We wish to assure you that the level of service you experienced in this occasion does not reflect the personalised service that all of us endeavour to achieve. We would like to assure you that your valuable feedback has been shared with the relevant department in order to avoid similar inefficiencies in the future.

All Kanuhura Family would like to thank you for your positive feedback and hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back in the future.

Sincerely,

We have stayed at Kanuhura twice flying with Emirates staying for 12 days. Both visits were special - from the hotel's lounge on Male the welcome at the resort, the accommodation (we prefer beach villas on the water villa side of the island with their own small private beach). The snorkelling is excellent both over the reef off the beach and especially on the half day trip. The evening fishing trip too is excellent with most of us catching fish. The buffet restaurant on the beach is wonderful in location and food. The staff are so welcoming and attentive. Apart from the gym and spa we did very little but with such wonderful views and weather that was ideal. On our second visit we requested and were given the same villa a long was from the centre so that we could enjoy the barefoot walk to breakfast and dinner. We were welcomed as second time visitors and skipped registration - a simple but warm touch. We will return as soon as we are able.

Room Tip: Beach villas on on the water villa side away from the centre provide a daily relaxing barefoot walk...

We've been going to Kanuhura off and on for more than a decade, usually with our kids, and it's still our favourite hotel in the world (and we've been to quite a few). We just went back this month for a week's holiday, without the kids for the first time, and after a three year gap. It's still wonderful. There's something about the size and shape of the island that's quite unique. It's small - about 20 minutes to walk right round Kanuhura, on a single continuous beautiful sandy beach. Sunset on the Kanuhura's main beach has a charm and beauty we've not found in any other resort. Many of the staff have been here for years (and all live fulltime on the island) so there's also a wonderfully warm, friendly and relaxed feel to the place. A note to parents with small kids - it's also very safe - we had no worries in previous years about letting our children run loose around the resort (though we avoided staying in the water villas with them, in favour of the duplex double rooms).

However, it's certainly true that the rooms (especially the bathrooms) are in increasing need of a complete overhaul, which has so far been denied by current owner Sun Resorts. That's in danger of becoming a worrying flaw unless it's addressed soon, especially in view of the high-end prices. But for now, our advice to first-time visitors would be to try to overlook those concerns, and take advantage of Kanuhura's enchanting atmosphere. You'll almost certainly find yourself hooked, and want to come back again, like all the rest of us Kanuhura repeaters.

A special mention also for the island's resident dive shop, owned and run with exceptional efficiency by German husband & wife team Britta & Wolle Tippelt. It's without question the most organised and best-equipped dive centre we've come across in 15 years' diving in Europe, the Caribbean and other parts of the Indian Ocean.

Room Tip: Rooms on the sunset side are generally quieter and less likely to be windy (though it depends on the...

Despite of blessing it has with the most amazing nature beauty, beaches and sea perfection, Kanuhura's italian management turns it into a common 3-4 stars resort-like.

Now the facts only:

Dirty floors everywhere - forget about barefoot pleasure - use slippers!
Rusty and shabby villas
Lousy food with stomach ache on the next day.
Obsessive service.
Snorkeling trip on a boat / or diving - possible only if 2 days notice in advance! (Really? in Maldives?)

We had terminated our stay there and left.
Check-out was really slow (45 minutes!)

At the moment it's the worst "five stars" hotel we have ever seen.

PS
By the way the hotel is quite hard to get by seaplane - all the flights are operating before 3pm. If you're late, you'll stay overnight in Male.
