“A great start to our honeymoon”

Laguna Beach Resort Maldives

We booked our honeymoon some time before we got married & took the travel agents advice on staying at Laguna. After booking our holiday I
was made aware of this website & was quite worried after reading some of the reviews about this island.

We stayed in Laguna for 7 nights in one of the Water Suites and I have
to say it was fantastic. After all the stress coming up to the wedding
this place is paradise & full of relaxtion. My husband is a very fussy
eater but our waiter Manus organised a dinner for him every evening. The food was good but I would miss the international night as it was the one night that we found the choice of food poor.

During our stay we ate in summerfields every night bar one night when we had a BBQ on the beach. Talk about eating under the stars with the sand in you feet! Something I will always remember.

While you stay at Laguna make sure you go to the Spa for a treatment. The ladies were lovely and really helped us to unwind!

A great start to our honeymoon & somewhere we will always remember!

“Not what we expected”

We arrived in a storm so did not see the island at its best. The deluxe room (105) was dated but large with a sitting space. Tea and coffee are supplied. Check the sell by dates in the fridge as some things were out of date. Bathroom was very good with a fantastic openair shower. The restaurant was very large but apart from one meal the food was always very good. Our waiter was very friendly as were the bar staff. Our room was on the windward side of the island so when the sun did come out it kept bearable. Take note, even though each room has its own marked sunbeds people from the leaward side of the island has no qualms about trying to take your sunbeds. The water current on the windward side of the island is very strong. It is hard to even walk in it. I do not know if this was to do with the weather that was plaging the Indian ocean during our stay or not. We did not get a chance touse the boats to go snorkling or fishing due to the choppy seas or not enough people which I thought was out of order. The sand is very sharp with lots of shells and coral swept up. This also could be due to the weather. We went through Kuoni on the all inclusive option and were told that as soon as that contract is up all inclusive will no longer be an option. The island is being totaly rebuilt next year so expect even higher prices in 2009.

A wonderful tropical island, with warm seas and the beautiful fish that swam so close to the shore, we saw huge stingrays glide by, beautiful tropical fish the colours so vivid all from just standing still, not even snorkeling.

the accommodation was basic, but was upgraded to a bungalow free as it was my birthday. with a cake too, how thoughtful was that. And everyone had a "houseboy" what a luxury that was.

my husband was vegetarian and the choice and quality was superb. the only downside was that there was very little entertainment provided, and no tv's but we soon adapted to the simple lifestyle and truly "turned off", it came as a bit of shock when we had to put our shoes back on when it came time to go home.!
hot tip: take the all in package if possible, we spent £600 on just evening meals and a few drinks.

“Avoid this island like the plague!!!”

Laguna Beach Resort Maldives

If you enjoy good food and romantic dinners by candlelight avoid this
island like the plague!!!

We visited Laguna in July.

Plus Points:-
Beautiful beach
Clear, torquoise water.

Apart from that this island has nothing going for it.

Min Points
- Beds on the beach were disgustingly dirty covered in stains.
- Old outdated accommodation. We stayed in a deluxe room which by the
looks of it was last decorated back in the 80's. On frequent occasions there was no water to shower.
- The restaurants were pitiful. The service appalling. The waiters were not friendly. Everything on this island seemed to relate to making money. The atmosphere in the restaurants resembled a morgue.
There was no candlelight in any of the restaurants, also no music. One evening we asked the waiter if he would place a lighted candle on our table and he told us he didn't have any!
- the Chinese restaurant. We ordered prawn curry and we were served a powdered curry sauce with 6 prawns, no vegtables. $25.00 for the curry + $7.00 for the rice + 10% service charge for an instant curry meal out of the packet.
- One day we fancied some fries. $12 dollar + 10% service charge for a portion of fries!

This resort was enough to put me and my partner off visiting the Maldives ever again. The only consolation was we booked via Kuoni on a two for the price of one offer. Had we have paid for two persons it
would have been a complete rip off.

“Most relaxing holiday ever!”

Laguna Beach Resort Maldives

Oct 17, 2007

My friend and I live and work in Dubai and decided to go to the Maldives for the Eid break. We booked a 3 night package through an agent for a deluxe bungalow. We got to the island and were given a cool refresher towel and welcome drink (nice touch) and shown immediately to our room which was ready straight away (even though we arrived at 9am). The bungalow was lovely and on a fantastic part of beach. The service was fantastic all around the island and everyone was so nice. The breakfast was great and dinners were of a high standard. Occasionally choice was slightly limited and my friend has many food allergies, however the staff were happy to whip something up especially for her. The staff couldn't do enough for us. We spent the 3 days eating, lazing on the beach and snorkelling. Tip: take mosquito repellent and a high SPF sunscreen, you'll need it! Also, try and fly direct if possible to avoid the Colombo airport. The weather was forecast as rain and storms but it only sprinkled one night and otherwise the weather was amazing. I would highly recommend this hotel - I wish we could have stayed longer!
