We had a 11-days stay in Maldives. We spent 6 days at Anantara Dhigu and 5 days at Angsana Ihuru. Certainly I do realize that my opinion cannot be pure because first we were at quite a luxury resort, but still I expected Angsana to be higher level to be frank. It was very high rated here at Tripadviser and the reviews were full of admiration. However we felt a bit disappointed as per the island happend to be very small, dark - as it seemed to us- and to tell the truth a bit boring. Besides I think that Maldives are attractive mostly because of the lagoons around the islands but Angsana Ihuru cannot brag of big and beautiful lagoon. The reason of our disappointment was also that in August 2009 when we were on vacation the price for Anantara Dhigu and Angsana Ihuru was almost the same. However the level of these two resort are totally different.
What we also did not like is that we made a reservation as early birds and paid the full amount more than 3 months ahead, but the actual price on the date of arrival was the same or even less as for early birds.. It was quite strange. Morover the hotel promised a free SPA procedure for early birds but the receptionist did not know about that. We had to open the hotel website with her and show that promotion. I think the employees should know the content of their hotel website...
The room was very small and dark, but still cute. Especially we liked the bathroom with the open-air shower. However you should be ready to watch lizards quite close to you. They are all around. First it seemed quite unpleasant but step by step we got used to that and even found that charming :) What I did not like - the insects. It's a drawback of beach villas. At Anantara Dhigu we were in water villa and did not have any problems with insects or lizards. Fortunately we had anti-insects spray with us.
It's a very good thing that Angsana Ihuru has a bigger sister - Banyan Tree. You may take a free shuttle and go there almost any time (the shuttle goes hourly or so). At Banyan Tree there is much more things to do - especially we liked the stingrays feeding and the turtles feeding. IT IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING, it's true! And when I was following the Marine Lab employee for turtles feeding, we were walking in the water and suddenly I noticed a very big turtle just next to me - I was very much impressed - it was so nice feeling. They are so funny these turtles. Some of them are in the cage and the Marine Labs specialists feed them and some of them which were set free after they have grown-up still come and beg for food :)))) It is very funny. They are like people - asking badly for a food and when do not get it, show that they are offended and go away :) Marine Lab guys do not feed them because the turtles should be able to get the food by themselves after they are released, they should not be very relaxed and hope to get food from people, it's not natural. Marine Lab which is based at Banyan Tree hotel and at Angsana Ihuru is amazing and we admire people working there. They made a presentation for guests where told about their mission. It's very impressive. They are doing their best to save the nature - the Maldives themselves from flood, the corals, the turtles, the stingrays...
I must say that one more good thing at Angsana is snorkeling. Certainly the coral reef is one of the best in Maldives and the underwater views are terrific.
Upon the whole if you look for luxury, relax, comfort and high level of everything you should not got to Angsana Ihuru, but if you are crazy about snorkelling, you love nature and appreciate the environment, you'll find it funny being at Angsana Ihuru.
