“A bit Depressive as for the Comfort but Very Touching as for Their Environmental Mission”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 22, 2010

We had a 11-days stay in Maldives. We spent 6 days at Anantara Dhigu and 5 days at Angsana Ihuru. Certainly I do realize that my opinion cannot be pure because first we were at quite a luxury resort, but still I expected Angsana to be higher level to be frank. It was very high rated here at Tripadviser and the reviews were full of admiration. However we felt a bit disappointed as per the island happend to be very small, dark - as it seemed to us- and to tell the truth a bit boring. Besides I think that Maldives are attractive mostly because of the lagoons around the islands but Angsana Ihuru cannot brag of big and beautiful lagoon. The reason of our disappointment was also that in August 2009 when we were on vacation the price for Anantara Dhigu and Angsana Ihuru was almost the same. However the level of these two resort are totally different.
What we also did not like is that we made a reservation as early birds and paid the full amount more than 3 months ahead, but the actual price on the date of arrival was the same or even less as for early birds.. It was quite strange. Morover the hotel promised a free SPA procedure for early birds but the receptionist did not know about that. We had to open the hotel website with her and show that promotion. I think the employees should know the content of their hotel website...
Positive things:
The room was very small and dark, but still cute. Especially we liked the bathroom with the open-air shower. However you should be ready to watch lizards quite close to you. They are all around. First it seemed quite unpleasant but step by step we got used to that and even found that charming :) What I did not like - the insects. It's a drawback of beach villas. At Anantara Dhigu we were in water villa and did not have any problems with insects or lizards. Fortunately we had anti-insects spray with us.
It's a very good thing that Angsana Ihuru has a bigger sister - Banyan Tree. You may take a free shuttle and go there almost any time (the shuttle goes hourly or so). At Banyan Tree there is much more things to do - especially we liked the stingrays feeding and the turtles feeding. IT IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING, it's true! And when I was following the Marine Lab employee for turtles feeding, we were walking in the water and suddenly I noticed a very big turtle just next to me - I was very much impressed - it was so nice feeling. They are so funny these turtles. Some of them are in the cage and the Marine Labs specialists feed them and some of them which were set free after they have grown-up still come and beg for food :)))) It is very funny. They are like people - asking badly for a food and when do not get it, show that they are offended and go away :) Marine Lab guys do not feed them because the turtles should be able to get the food by themselves after they are released, they should not be very relaxed and hope to get food from people, it's not natural. Marine Lab which is based at Banyan Tree hotel and at Angsana Ihuru is amazing and we admire people working there. They made a presentation for guests where told about their mission. It's very impressive. They are doing their best to save the nature - the Maldives themselves from flood, the corals, the turtles, the stingrays...
I must say that one more good thing at Angsana is snorkeling. Certainly the coral reef is one of the best in Maldives and the underwater views are terrific.
Upon the whole if you look for luxury, relax, comfort and high level of everything you should not got to Angsana Ihuru, but if you are crazy about snorkelling, you love nature and appreciate the environment, you'll find it funny being at Angsana Ihuru.

We went to the Ant-sanga Resort and Spa, Maldives for our honeymoon. Beware that there is no ounce of luxurious living here, but if that’s not what you are looking for then stay here.
The individual villas are quite basic, but the bathroom has not been designed for the squeamish. Since the bathroom is trying to take on a natural ambiance, it is open plan. Great for the mornings, terrible in the evenings, when cockroaches, giant ants and mosquitoes inhabit the area. And if your are short-sighted good luck in trying to find your spectacles in the middle of the night so that you can see what may be under your toilet seat. The room has no TV but does have a CD player, so take some music with you.
The spa is worth a visit, and we went with the complimentary 2 for 1 voucher we got delivered through our door on the first day so it was good value for money. The treatment seemed to last forever, but go at the beginning of your stay as the sandfly and mosquito bites will reduce the relaxing experience.
The breakfast and lunch buffet was moderate and got a little boring after about 5 days. The evening meals alternated between buffet and a la carte, but again beware, the eating area is open plan so you will need bug spray. And tea and coffee is not included at the end of lunch and dinner buffets so you will be charged!
The reason you go to the Angsana Resort and Spa is for the diving and snorkelling which is out of this world. We have never seen so much aquatic life on one reef, and there is a ship wreck next to the island and so the off shore diving is also fantastic. The dive centre does boat trips to various dive sites which are also worth a visit.
So, in short take some strong insect repellent and your mask and snorkel as this place is well worth a visit.

We have just returned from a ten day visit to the lovely and peaceful island of Ihuru.
We visited the island seven years ago and had one of the best holidays ever, we
decided to return especially after BA decided to fly direct to Male. After a week of worry as to whether they were going to strike or not and some serious bad weather
in England we had a very easy flight and arrived safely in Ihuru.

The place was as welcoming as ever, the room we requested on the west of the island was as promised and we settled in for 10 days. The spa is excellent, the girls are very accomplished and the massages superb. The food is well presented and the buffet style breakfast and lunches are of a high quality considering the islands location. The special Christmas and New year celebrations were excellent -NewYear's Day buffet was wonderful - prawns on the BBQ and home made ice-cream…sitting in the sunshine looking at the turquoise of the Indian ocean. The staff cannot do enough to help you, our waiter Ishmael made our stay very special and Nicholas the Restaurant Manager was first class.

My husband who is an experienced diver was very impressed by the professionalism of the dive school, on his first day diving on the house reef he saw turtles, manta rays and a white tip shark in twenty minutes. On his last snorkel he swan alongside a turtle for ten minutes - as one guest said the house reef is like swimming in an overstocked aquarium. The Four Seasons bring their guests to dive on the Ihuru house reef.

The rooms are nicely decorated but in the 7 year gap they have not been updated in any way and new mattresses on the beds (which are very hard) would be appreciated. There was only one real drawback to the stay and that was the weather, we arrived on December 22nd and in the first week we had very unsettled weather, three days of torrential rain, two days of strong winds and then with the Full Moon the weather changed for the better. It would appear that experience of past years when the monsoon finished at the start of December is not holding true mand you cannot guarantee good weather at Christmas and New Year which is a shame. Also if you take young children if it does rain there is little or nothing for them to do on the island. If you do go take lots of mosquito repellent and bite cream as all the islands are prone to them.

Perfect location, lovely staff, good food, fantastic diving, brilliant spa…take your shoes off and switch off Angsana Ihuru is just perfect for an informal and very relaxing holiday. By the number of people who return to the island on a regular basis from all over the world - there can be no better recommendation.

This resort gaves us a very relaxing feel as we made our first few steps onto the island, the whole colour theme itself is very vibrant with its bright lime green in the bar area (where we had their homemake coconut icecream as a welcome dessert) as well as the interior of our villa.

If you are someone who enjoys snorkelling or diving, this is definately a right place! The house reef is just right outside your villa, simply just hop 10 steps & you can make your way underwater... This is the best house reef I've seen, you can see that they are really serious into preserving eco-life when you go to their marine centre, the staff there will explain to you the techniques they used to do it.

There is a tented bar where you can go to after your dinner, its very comfortable at the sofa seats which is furnished with lots of cushions. There is also a laptop with free internet access & a big television where you can watch soccer matches.

We come to a conclusion when we check out that we have made the right choice & it has definately met our expectations!

First up, you need to know that this is a high quality 4.5 star resort. If this is what you are after then you will not be disappointed, if seeking unsurpassed luxury, pampering and opulence then this is not the holiday for you. However if you are after good service, good food, good staff and a chance to relax then this may be the holiday you are seeking.
We were celebrating our 25th Wedding Anniversary and my wife’s 50th Birthday. We were looking for a place that I could scuba dive (every 2nd day) and my wife could laze on the beach sunning herself using the Spa and reading a book or two. We both sought good food, good service and a good location.
So, the not so good:
• There are biting insects (mosquitoes and “midges” (small biting flies)). Most stick close to the foliage, however the foliage surrounds the island and beach. Advice take some spray (135ml of Aerogard per person per week).
• The beach has a large number of sandbags to prevent erosion. Some in bad repair.
The good:
• The service is very good, discreet, polite and timely, many thanks to our waiter Ismal and cabin boy Ahmed.
• The food is very good, excellent choices, variety and flavors.
• The house reef is the best I have ever seen, my wife’s only criticism was “why did I wait so long to snorkel”.
• The ambience was what we were after, quiet, mainly couples (above 30 years of age).
In summary we researched deeply made a choice and got what we expected.

We returned to the Angsana after a visit 4 years ago (just after the tsunami) and we were not dissapointed. The laidback feeling to the island, allied to good food, excellent service (big mention for Jack in the restuarant) and the best snorkelling you could get (saw numerous sharks, turtles and 3 marble rays as well as a vast range of other marine life) makes this a great place if you like a low key break. Only downside was the introduction of a TV in the bar (who needs it when the island has so much more to offer) and more mossies than we could remember from our previous visit (maybe time of year post monsoon). Shop did not have repellent but helpful receptionist gave us her own stuff! And we know we should have taken our own. For those offering negative reviews, I can only imagine that they are looking for a different holiday experience that the Angsana offers/markets and a quick look at most reviews will give you a real idea of what to expect. We also got a very reasonable deal (shop around is the obvious lesson to those who feel they have paid over the odds). Drinks a bit pricey but that's to be expected.

Absolutely perfect in all respects. The resort was superb and was enhanced with the best reef we have ever experienced. Diving was great but the quality of the snorkelling meant the we never did as many dives as we had planned.
The food was first rate and the service was awesome!
