We snorkeled all the way around the island several times. Great variety-- one side has better corals, one side has bigger fish (jacks, reef sharks). The food was delicious. The service was polite, but mostly people are just left alone. Perfect, because the island is quiet and people seem to be there to snorkel and relax. The rooms are clean and conveniently arranged. If I could change anything, I would make the room numbers easier to read at night, and add some shelves for personal belongings. But really, we would go there again in a flash.

This is my second maldives holiday. We (me, my wife, my sister and her husband) choose where to stay im Maldives according to the below criterias

-Rich House reef (because we are divers)
-Small and not crowded island
-Food (we are Turkish, food = life)
-SPA
-5star quality

My first stay was in Baros in 2007 and this time(March 2013) I choosed Angsana Ihuru which is also very close to Male, Banyan Tree and Baros resort. I will compare Angsana Ihuru to Baros and Banyan Tree(where my sister have 1 week experience and we also had a chance to make a day trip)

House reef: very beautiful, easily accessible, rich and alive. Since the island is not so big, it is possible to make a snorkeling trip around the island in 40 minutes. In some parts there is strong current, where the sharks like to hang around. Colorful reef fish, turtles, white tip, black tip and nurse sharks, morays, lobsters, bat fish, huge jackfish groups are the usual residents of the island, possible to see with snorkeling. There is a wreck in 18m. close to the main deck where you can see during scuba diving. Even Baros and Banyan have rich and beautiful house reef, we think Angsana house reef is the best one.

Island: It is small with less rooms compared to the other resorts (Banyan - Baros) and this is what we were looking for - privacy. There is no water villas so there is no sea view interruption from the island, it is endless ocean. We always prefer the beach villas since you feel that you are in a tropical island, you can step onto the wihte sand from your veranda, relax under the palm trees. On a water villa you feel like you are on a boat which is also nice but not what we are looking for in Maldives. Angsana beach villa's were nice, and have enough privacy on the beach side. Among the all three island, Angsana is the smallest and the least crowded island which we liked.

Food: We put angsana to second place among the others. Baros serves by far the best food. Banyan has a fusion concept, small and healty portions which us not for us (highly active Turks). Angsana sits in between, bigger portions and more choices than Banyan but not as rich as Baros. Apart from the comparision, I can say the the food is 4star out of 5 in Angsana...

SPA: Since we dive, swim and snorkel a lot, we need to relax so SPA is important for us. The treatment in Angsana was very good, similar like in Banyan but the atmosphere of Angsana was better (open air) than in Baros whisc was more like an indoor facility. (Maybe there is also outside options but we took 3 treatments in Baros which were all indoors)

Quality: The overall quality of the island, means, the rooms and restorants, service, is a real 5 star in Angsana. Baros and Banyan are maybe more. The luxury is more visible in Baros and Banyan, in the rooms, restaurants and other facilities. Therefore angsana is a little bet less expensive compared to these two. But if we had to comeback to one of the three island, it will be definetly Angsana again because it has everything we need, nothing more nothing less. My only suggestion to Angsana management would be to increase the variety of the food they serve.

Location is also good. We prefer to stay the resorts which are accessible with speed boat because, first seaplane is expensive and you can even stay one more day with the same budget if you choose a place which does not require sea plane transfer, second the seaplane schedules are not so flexible, it needs additional planning with your arrival flights while speed boats are operating 24 hours, no need for planning.

We don't look for ultra luxury resorts with swimming pools on the deck of your villa, golf courses, underwater restaurants, entertainment and etc. We need of course high quality, good house reef, quiet and exotic atmosphere and a spa...Angsana gives more than what we are looking for...

Room Tip: Rooms with Jakuzzi bathroom have a better location on the island in terms of sun set view and sea cu...

As soon as you land in Male, the Angsana/Banyan Tree representatives greet you outside customs and then your off on the luxury speedboat to paradise. Angsana is only a 10 minute boat ride from Banyan tree and they have hourly speed boat transfers. We had the full board package and the food was excellent, you can pay an additional fee to dine at Banyan tree if you wish. We stayed on both islands and had a blast on the house reefs as well as offshore diving. The offshore diving was remarkable, magnificent rock faces, swim through caves, large sharks, mantas, schools of trevallies and tuna. The trip of a life time! This island is frequented by many celebrities because it is so private and you get the feeling that the entire island is yours and yours only.

Snorkeling was wonderful!
There are chinese staffs in hotel. so the communication was ok too.
We are very satisfied with our stay in ihuru.
we got upgrade to villa with jet pool, thank you very much! But actually we didn't use the jet pool (without down nozzle?) because we found it's difficult to clean after use.
Besides that, we have nothing to complain.

We could write a couple of pages about all the things we like about Ihuru (beautiful island, excellent diving, tasty food, our villa, etc...), but there is one particular thing that we would rate as extraordinary: Angsana Ihuru is laid-back, non-formal but at the same time provides an excellent, personal service to its guests. Just perfect for a truly relaxing vacation.
