We are a couple who is aged 26-30, having been Cuba and Mexico a fair few times, it was time to see the Maldives. I found this holiday on a website and it was basically the cheaper resort in the Maldives. I arrived the 30th November 2011 and left on the 14th December!
I flew with Thomas cook, i got their quite early and asked for specific seats which were great, plenty of leg room, movies were great and kept me entertained! The flight was 11hours but it went quite quick, no problems and the staff were great! The flight back was 12 hours due to the winds, which dragged like hell... you better to upgrade the movies for a fiver so you can pause and rewind and you get extra 3 movies on your list. The head phones were free too but if you lose them you have to pay for them on the return flight. First thing you need to remember is your visiting another culture so dress correctly and show respect. Arms and knees must be covered. One guy told me he took his t-shirt off after leaving the airport, and as he was crossing the road, cars were stopping and people yelled at him. So people, leaving the airport and taking the transfer, dress with respect.
The transfer was via boat, from male which is the main land; club faru is on the nearest island which is a ten minute boat ride. What i didn’t realise was how busy the sea looked from the hotel, we had planes landing and taking off from male which trust me is very near! Then we had over 40 boats parked up upon and around the front of the island. So when you looked out from the island of Maldives, you see male, airport, planes coming and going, boats and all their rubbish dumped in the sea, another close island which looked like a big block of flats on and polls with sky dishes on.. Seriously not the most romantic island there! But i guess you get what you pay for so i dint moan too much.
When we arrived the first thing i thought, was how small the pool was compared to its pictures, so i used it once and stayed at the beach. It looked clean and it had a nice view onto the sea.
The resort is small but I liked that, with all rooms having a sea view, ground floor we had as that’s what i asked for.. As you are right on the beach, which was perfect when your sunbathing outside your room. I would rate the overall resort at a 3 star!
The room! 137 and beach
My tip for you is grab the best side of the beach which is close to the thunder bar and the water sports area, it’s the best bit of the sea without weeds, so it nice and light blue, however its quite shallow. . 105 plus...ours was 137 and it was on the same side of the island, further away from the main bar, but in front of our room was a private bit of secluded area of sunbathing with shade too. Perfect really! The colour of the water was not great really as it was full of sea weed, so no light blue sea in that area! However it was fantastic snorkelling with fish around your legs, and even swam little harmless sharks in the shallow area in front of my Lillo!
The room was fine for us, the bed was actually quite comfortable, a nice super king size great when your burnt, however its basically two single mattresses pushed together, so when you cuddle in the middle you can feel it on your back. However my partner has just reminded me on the night when he woke up to something in his hair, i switched the lamp on and to his horror he had a massive cockroach on his face and it had been in his hair.. he said he felt it and thought i had been tickling his hair in the night.... he was furious. I found it funny!!! Also we found a crab on the bed, how it got there was beyond us, we think it came in with the male cleaner...
They actually don’t change the bedding they just make your bed, as loads of time we felt sand in the bed.. , we had fresh towels everday for the beach so that was good. We tipped dollers and 1 here and there and then as it was clean enough for us we stopped tipping!
There was aircon which worked fine, and a ceiling fan, no fridge, no water in your room left everyday which we were not happy with, as the water was never cold! And in the heat it wasn’t great at all!
No tv, which was fine with me as I needed to get away anyway, however when it rained or if you were feeling unwell or burnt and needed to stay in the room you would need a good book I’m afraid.
The very worst thing for us was the small of the toilet in the room, it was disgusting, and it smelt of stale urine mixed with sewage smell, which we could smell at certain times at the front of the island. We complained and it didn’t change, so we just kept the toilet door closed and held our breath and when we went in. It was just rank! I think some toilets were ok and some had the same thing!!! Shower no bath, wasn’t the best shower I’ve been in, it looked dingy, dark and it was really basic. Into the holiday the hot water wasn’t working, called reception as the replaced it with power shower on the same day,, so that was good.
However the best thing was the free safe in your room.
Overall a 2star rating for room and 3 star for beach,.
Cuba has the best beaches and tropical waters I’ve been to as yet!!!!
If it’s anything that can ruin my holiday, it’s the food! I went Mexico and I was really ill and got food positioning which ruined my holiday! This holiday I was so dreading about the food! But let me tell you, the food was excellent, and I’m picky about food! Breakfast was ok but lunch and dinner was fantastic, the best food I’ve had on a all inclusive holiday. So for example nothing was repeated in the two weeks, so you had different types of rice, beef stew, lamb stew, chicken dishes, roast beef, roast chicken, excellent roasted wedges, French fries, jacket potatoes in foil, fish, bbq fish, steak, curries, you name it they did it!!! And I was never ill, never had a bad stomach it was great food... above standard of a 3 star, I would rate it 5 stars!
We read about sharing a table and to be honest we went with the view to ask to have our own table. The first night I told my partner let’s try it the once! We were sat with an older couple, who were friendly enough but they were not our cup of tea, maybe the age gap, and the fact the guy never shut up talking about himself and where they had been on holiday! Phew after a big flight i just wanted to eat, but felt like we had to be polite. This couple had been together for over 20 years and clearly loved socialising with other couples which was good but as we are a couple of 3 years we just wanted it to be us. Besides I hate eating in front of people!!! So we had a word with the main guy to move us. He is on every shift and wear the same uniform as the others but his collar is white, so head to him he is the boss. He checked the seating and I tipped him 5 dollars and he sat us outside under the stars with the view of the beach and sea. Candle lit table outside for just couples who ate separate... I think the other couple took it personally as they made a joke we were unsocial, I took this defensively and the women never spoke or said hi to us, I couldn’t care less really but my tip is, if you want to eat with just yourself and partner, ask on the first night!
Beware of some of the Japanese, Chinese men, i had a few run in with them, being a girl too i had a go at a few! The main thing with them is they don’t wait, they push in front of lines to get their food so if anyone does that to you, make sure you say something,... i did and none of them like confrontation so they scuttled to the back! Tut tut...had loads of situations with them and to be honest I won’t be going china or Japan! Hahaha
We tipped most night to our waiter, they were not the friendliest to be honest, the better staff work behind the bar who make you feel very welcome.. We did tip each time was a doller here and there! so it wasn’t much at the time but it does amount up!!! We didn’t want to leave it till the end of holiday. Bar staff Sam and the other guys were great and the bar manager put my cd on and I let him keep it there, as it had 90 songs of the latest stuff! so that was good. The music was chilled in the day, alot of jazz and blues, and in evening modern pop, rmb, rock and some oldies which was great as it was English and America music.
The all inclusive drinks were wine, larger, run, vodka, soft drinks and tea and coffee... no cocktails with was a disappointment to say the least...
Prices were around 8-12 dollers a cocktail!!! I loved the non alcohol cocktail monkey doo, look for that you must try it!!!!!!
I thought the water sports was overpriced!!!!!! 50 dollars for 15 mins of a jet ski... trust me on the water sports its overpriced!!! So we never bothered!!!
Over all a good holiday worth going if you want a cheap holiday in the Maldives... knowing what i know now, i would maybe of waited and saved more money to go to a 4 star at least!!! But it was a break for us to unwind and take it easy, and we did that... it was the best relaxing holiday I’ve ever been on.. And it was lovely... I wouldn’t go back the second time as ill wait and pay more for a better island and a better room..
