The first all inclusive holiday my wife and I have been on, and the first holiday alone without our sons in 22 years... I don't think we could have chosen a better destination, even if we had had a larger budget.
Seamless transfer from flight to speedboat to accommodation. Speed boat ride was excellent - very quick and actually took less time than the brochure said it would !
The welcome was very warm personal and reassuring. Thanks for that Zita.
The superior rooms we had chosen were large, comfortable, well equipped and very clean, with a first floor room we also had an excellent view of the beach on one side of the island and other islands across the water. Our room on that side of the island, allowed us to enjoy the fantastic Maldivian sunsets each day.
The rooms were cleaned, and the linen changed twice a day (at least). With the sheets being arranged in different shpaes in the evening (flowers & hearts)
The beach on the 'quiet' lagoon side of the island was truly wonderful... white sand clear water and all kinds of tropical fish in 5 feet of water & coral within 20 yards of the sunloungers.
Beach bar 10 yards away. (drinks chargeable I think, at that bar)
The food was absolutely amazing in its choice its presentation and its quality. We ate in the international restaurant on our inclusive package and each night there was a different international theme... Italian, French, Indonesian, Japanese, Arab, Chinese, Mongolian etc. etc. Roast beef & yorkshire pudding on the english themed days.
This coupled with the traditional Maldive fish & chicken dishes meant each day was a gastronomic voyage of discovery !
I had some special dietary requirements, and the chefs each took the time to prepare my main course, vegetables and salad specifically for me each day... you only have to ask !
The waiting staff were so helpful polite and humorous - you have the same table and staff allocated to you for the whole stay - they were almost psychic in their anticipation of our food & drink requirements.. Thanks Shavaz, Ali & Ahmed. They even bought toys on their days off for the toddlers in the restaurant to play with - Nice touch.
The three bars across the island catered for different tastes - from the surfing generation at one end of the island to the bar for the wine connoisseur at the other... with a larger bar in the middle near the international restaurant... they all serve excellent food and snacks during the day. (most snacks and some cocktails were included in the package)
The spa and massages (chargeable) were well worth the extra money - and cheap compared with UK prices.
The beach parties and cocktail parties on the beach were good value (cocktails all included in the ticket price) with magic shows fire eaters and acrobats.
The paths and beaches were swept clean of leaves twice a day, and the ladies always stopped sweeping and said hello when you walked past... I felt guilty walking on their patterned paths.
There is a small gym with treadmills and weights machine, tennis court & badmington court if you are inclined... walking past them to the beach made me feel fitter...!
All in all it was a fantastic experience and a wonderful holiday, made not only by the beautiful location, but by the helpfulness and good nature of all the staff on the island.
I have only one complaint.... the music in the international restaurant.....The Eagles or Neil Diamond on a continuous loop..!!! It wasnt even the real eagles it was an instrumental shopping centre versions of their songs over and over again... seems petty when everything else was virtually faultless... but I had to mention it.
It was quite a wrench to leave all the staff, who had become friends over the two weeks, teaching us the Maldivian language...to come back to the rat race again.
Speed boat trip back was even quicker ! (and bumpier) but still good fun.
Zita once again was ruthlessly efficient and in good humour (probably glad to see the back of some of us)
It is a holiday experience I would definitely recommend to any person and would definitely repeat again.
It was a magical, hassle free, thoroughly enjoyable holiday in a location as near to paradise as I have experienced. Made all the better by the brilliant attitude of all the people involved in Chaaya Dhonveli
First floor rooms have more privacy, as ground floor and beach bungalows patio doors open onto publi...
