“Disappointing - wish we knew more before we arrived”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2012

We travelled here in June/July 2011.

The standard of this place was pretty awful really. It seems like the whole place is in dire need of a serious renovation.

Our stay would possibly have been OK had we been aware of a few key issues which really affected our time on the island.

Things to keep in mind:
- Meal times are not very family friendly (dinner starts at 7.30pm. Not ideal for young kids)
- No babysitting service despite being mentioned on their website as readily available
- No infant life jackets on transfer vessels
- Not much fresh fruit and veg (I know it is an island etc etc. I simply expected a little more variety)
- Staff fairly unresponsive to various requests
- No room service, no wifi in room
- Room standard is very basic, leaky toilets, shower that didn't drain etc
- Pool is very well worn with a lot of rusty screws etc in and around the swim-up bar area
- Servicing of rooms is very basic, with washcloths and glasses simply removed and not replaced with fresh items

And a few tips:
- If travelling with young kids, bring a pram as you will do a lot of walking
- Bring aerogard as there are loads of mosquitos
- Bring a length of rope to use for clothes line as there is nowhere to hang wet gear
- If travelling with a child that sleeps in a cot, BYO travel cot (we had asked for an infant bed and received a fold-away adult sized bed
- Bring USD as the reception charges 8% fee if you want to withdraw USD at the hotel

Having said all of the above, the place was stunningly beautiful, the surfing was great, diving/snorkelling was excellent. There was plenty of food, even if it was very repetitive. Some of the staff are friendly and really love kids.

This place is very affordable from a Maldives perspective, which is great. I guess we just expected a bit more than we were met with. Had we known the things mentioned above, our stay may have been more pleasurable as we would have at least been prepared for something else.

Room Tip: Rooms closer to the bar area are noisier but you will do a lot less walking!

“Expect the Unexpected”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2012

My son and I did a 4 day 3 night trip. Upon arrival at Male airport, we had to wait for 1 over hour before the speedboat came for us. The ride on the speedboat was pleasant.

Upon arrival at the hotel, I was again made to wait for my room. Luckily it was lunchtime and we were ushered to the big dining area for lunch.

Our room was the low 100s, quite close to the main lobby area but quite far from the secluded and beautiful part of the island. I guess one has to choose between being closer to the restaurants/lobby or beach. The waters facing the number 100s rooms had lots of twigs so it was not so nice to swim/snorkel in. The rooms from 200 onwards faced beautiful clear waters. Very clean, almost no twigs and superbly calm waters. One can already see the fishes without the masks.

I paid for full board as I did not want the hassle of bringing extra cash. The buffets were decent, not fantastic.

A must do is the dolphin watch. What an experience!

My room was furnished with the basics. Open concept wardrobe and toilet. Nice! As there was a thunderstorm for the 2 nights I was there, the tv signals had disruptions. On the last night, my room was half flooded as the winds blew the rainwater beneath the cracks of the door and windows. I had to call room service to clear up the mini flood which they did. I came back from dinner with the floor nicely cleaned up.

All in all, it was a nice little trip. I did not pay through my nose for this trip and yet, I do feel very well take care of.

Room Tip: If you prefer to be close to the restaurants as less walking is required, choose the low 100 numbere...

“Excelent for surfing, terrible for everything else.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2012

The best part of our stay there's nothing to do with the hotel (I refuse to call it a resort) but with the nature. If it wasn't for the extraordinary Lohis surfbreak it would suck.
The staff is completely unfriendly. Except for the gardeners, they are not pleased to serve or help you and they'll let you know that. You feel like you're in a zoombie movie.
The food is okay for the first couple of days. After a week you'd pay extra to eat in another restaurant (the sunset restaurant is good and expensive) because nobody (it was unanimou among all guests I spoke) can taste the flavor anymore.
You'll find less holes in the moon than on the tennis court.
My friend's beach villas had leaks and termites everywhere. At some point they've found a nice and tiny black mouse.
They have a so called "sunset bar" which closes at 6pm right when the sun starts to set. I advise you to order a couple of drinks 5 minutes to 6pm. The same happens with the pool bar. The most ridiculous part is that they make you get out of the pool and turn arround to order a drink - in the same bar but in a different side - and than go back to the pool.
You cannot hire any kind of boat or any transportation but the hotel's. And they charge it very expensively.
The watersports' staff doesn't seem to have very accurated information on the surf conditions. They scored 1 out of 2.
The most common frases you'll hear is "it's not allowed, sir". So get used to it. It seemed prety unusual to me since I thought I was staying in an all inclusive resort.
Putting it aside, the perfect, easy and not crowded lefts of Lohis made it worth it! We got great waves there!!

Room Tip: They say the ocean villas is a completely different hotel. So I think is better to stay there. And i...

“We choose ocean villas”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2012

We have been in this hotel with wife in July 2012. We choose Ocean Viila. Here is the overview:
Room: the room itself is spacious. Huge bathroom. There is terrace with direct entrance to the ocean.
Food: the breakfast was good. It was in separate room in the very beginning of the ocean villa's area. The food variety for lunch and dinner was poor. We had no problem with the quality. The special dinners are highly recommend (for extra charge)
Beach: we were a little disappointed with coral reef. Possibly, we simply couldn't reach good one due to strong current and waves
Spa: there 3 options for different spa procedures. One is near reception. The other 2 in SPA center. We visited all 3. The chinese one is good and very reasonably priced. The SPA center is very good, but more expensive.
Butler: there is a butler for ocean villa. He helps with different issues, drive you to the restaurant, etc. Ours was excellent
Tips:
1. Don't miss shark feeding. Ask personnel about time of feeding
2. Please keep in mind that ocean villas are in long distance from main destinations. Use cart.
3. There is long way from the island to villas through wooden bridge. It was windy and rainy in july. Walking sometimes was nasty.

“Great place for the price- awesome waves!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2012

We were here in late oct for 10 days. A lot of ppl complain about the food and rooms, but this isnt a 5 star resort, its at best 3. We have been traveling for months and this fit our budget and the purpose of going was to surf and snorkel, which both were AMAZING!! the only downside was the mattress and sheets. it was 2 twin beds put together and being sold as a queen ( we booked room 142. a beach villa) and the sheets were really rough and very scratchy. Ive stayed at less expensive places and had a better mattress and sheets, its not like we were expecting Egyptian cotton, but a little upgrade would really reflect better on this place. It has beautiful grounds and the men maintaining it were the friendliest of the bunch. Food ok, buffet, drinks were STRONG and the service was average...good for the price and waves!
