Having stayed at Starwood properties during our Honeymoon, it was only appropriate that we do the same for our one year anniversary. After selecting the Maldives, the only choice that remained was which property. The decision was made to spend our 1st Anniversary at the Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa, and to say it was one of the best decisions ever, would be an understatement.
From the word go, this resort went out of thier way to make our visit the best it could possibly be. My wife had always talked about how someday she would love to stay in an overwater Bungalow, and she got her wish. From the moment we entered, it became clear that they truely appreciated our staying with them. Our bed was covered with fresh flowers, from which they had spelled out "Happy Anniversary". There was also a chocolate cake, two cupcakes, and a bottle of Champange. Talk about setting the tone for our visit, these folks did it right. The bungalow had a deck, and stairs that took you right down into the most beautiful water we had ever seen. There were schools of fish swimming everywhere, including several large needle fish, that we considered our friends by the end of our stay. There was also a shower, so you could rinse off the salt water after taking a swim. The ocean bottom was covered with soft sand, and the water temp was just perfect.
I had read some of the reviews prior to booking, and saw numerous complaints about the price of food. What I did not see in those reviews was mention of the selection. We were both blown away by not only the number of choices, but the willingness on the part of thier team to make us whatever we wanted, however we wanted it. They went above and beyond to accomodate, and I would rather pay a couple dollars more for quality like this, than to end up dissapointed.
There was a daily wine pairing, where you received three glasses of wine for only $15. NOTE: DO NOTATTEMPT TO BRING ALCOHOL TO THE ISLAND, THEY WILL CONFISCATE IT. We learned this the hard way, but they are at least kind enough to hold it for you until after your stay.
We tried all of the resturants, but our favorite was the breakfast buffet. From made to order eggs, wide selection of fresh fruits, and even "Real" fresh squezed OJ, it offered something for everyone, and we certainly never left hungry. One of the things that really put this resort over the top was "Communication". We had made mention during one of our first stops of a couple things we did not like, or were alergic to, and the next time we ate (At another resturant), they mentioned it without us saying a thing. The head chef "Sven" was truly Amazing. He stopped by to personally congratulate us on our anniversary, and even took the time to explain what several unique items were. Not only is he a brillant chef, but a great guy as well.
There were a couple of things that they could improve upon, and we saw this mentioned by others. The air conditioning was not quite large enough for the over water bungalows, and we found ourselves sleeping a few feet apart, or we would wake up in a sweat. We had also received mixed messages on if WiFi had been installed (It had not), but they were kind enough to bring us a wireless router to use. The service was extremely slow, but it was very kind of them to do this.
I have traveled the world, and stayed at some of the finest properties, and am convinced that this was the friendliest staff I have ever seen. They went above and beyond to say hello at every opportunity, and always greeted us with a smile.
My favorite thing on the island was the SPA. I had the pleasure of getting one of thier "Ocean" messages, and WOW. The room that they took me to was wide open to the ocean. Forget about listening to Ocean music, this was the real deal. Quite possibly the best message I have ever had by a really nice gal from Bali.
My wifes favorite was the "Flying Foxes". These are "Technically" Fruit Bats, but unlike most bats, stay out during the day, and are so cute its crazy. They are quite large, and actually look like a cross between a puppy, and a fox. They were very playful, chasing each other around the trees, and from a distance looked like very large birds.
Being that the resort covers the entire island, you could not feel more safe. All of the staff lives on the island in special housing, so it is virtually impossible for anyone to get on the island that is not invited.
Thank you Starwood and Sheraton for the best anniversary we could have possibly hoped for, we really appreciated it!
We were in overwater Bungalow 346 and it looked like we had more sandy bottom than others.

Firstly, congratulations on your first year wedding anniversary. Secondly, thanks for choosing to celebrate both your honeymoon and anniversary with Starwood - we appreciate your support and look forward to celebrating many more anniversaries with you.
You're right - you cannot bring any alcohol into the Maldives, customs will confiscate it on arrival.
Currently, we offer complimentary WiFi at The Link@Sheraton (in the lobby). Wired internet access is provided in all guest rooms and we hope to have the island WiFi capable by years end.
I'm also pleased that you visited the Sheraton Social Hour - just $15 for three glasses of wine (and of course the best sunsets are on offer too).
Again, thanks for your comments and we look forward to welcoming you back to Sheraton.
Regards .. Ursula.
