“Paradise On Earth”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2007

The most beautifull place on earth... if you want to relax, to spend some days with your wife, to go on honeymoon you cant hesitate... you must go to Full Moon. Here are my advises for a perfect holidays:

1 - Go at least 3 days to Water Bungalows(i see dolphins in open sea at 100m) and go the other days to Beach Cottage Bungalows(nice bathroom and bigger room). Both are perfect and diferent.

2 - I went in breakfast only for 10 days and i think is the perfect choice. You can choose from 5 diferent restaurants. My choice is Sand Coast. Nice food, nice deserts, and not to expensive. I make some meals paying 50-60 USD for 2.

3 - Dont loose the Dolphins Sunset Cruise, the Island Hoping Full Day (you will visit 2 resorts, make snorkeling, you have a barbecue on a desert island, and you visit a fishman island where you can make a lot of cheap shopping, and if you have luck you see the dolphins too). Dont go to Malé.Ugly place and a lot of man trying to sell you something very expensive.

4 - If you want to feel like a king give some tips to the employees, normaly 5 USD to 10 USD. I only gave to Abdul(breakfast) and Ashoullah (cruises). They are very nice and turn my holidays better.

5 - If you want and need more information, like the better room numbers for example, you can contact me by email: rodzesilva@hotmail.com

I hope return to Full Moon one day later. Maldives are a wondefull place to go and 10 days are not enough for me... :) Our pictures of this hotel tells everything... Enjoy it!

My partner and I just returned from staying at the Full Moon Resort in the Maldives. DO NOT GO THERE!! We travel extensively and work in the travel industry ourselves. In all my life and travels, I have never experienced such a terrible place to stay at.
The service was the worst we have ever dealt with. Errors were made almost daily. The charges are phenomonal. They charge you for tennis court rental, then additional charge for the rackets and then an additional charge for the balls with whopping another 10% service charge. Then they charge you for water after paying these amounts at the tennis court - this shows you the philosophy of the place. It was a non-stop "money grabbing" feeling there after paying full board - they do not provide all inclusive packages for that reason.
Management was sarcastic upon approach. Our mini-bar was over charged. The family next to us in the restaurant were very unhappy and told us that the ketchups and condiments on the table tasted strange and then discovered they were out-of-date was out of date by 3 months. After paying a fortune for your room, they only give you one complimentary bottle of water on arrival. All additional water is minimum US$4 per bottle.
On the morning of checkout, they overcharged us US$390! Now upon my return home, I find that they charged an additional US$22 to my credit card, 3 days after we checked out!! They did not have my authority nor my signature.
If you are from Europe, USA, Australia or anywhere aside being part of an Asian inbound group which the Full Moon seem to enjoy taking advantage of and focus on, THEN DO NOT GO THERE! We checked out asap and went to another resort and they were wonderful. They were disgusted when we told them about the FULL MOON and quite embarressed that such a place represented the Maldives.
The company that owns FULL MOON is a Maldivien company and still won't reply to my emails. They are UNIVERSAL RESORTS and own the following resorts including Full Moon:
Kurumba, Laguna, Kuramathi Village, Kuramathi Cottage & SPa, Kuramathi Blu Lagoon, Atoll Explorer, Labriz Seychelles.
Please do not support these people. Look for individual-run resorts (support the smaller guy) where attention to detail, personalised service, value-for-money and a smile is given from staff.

Stayed in Full Moon for the second week of our honeymoon. Ok, so having spent the first week at the Hilton may have spoilt us slightly, but Full Moon just seemed a bit average.

The room istelf was fine - fairly spacious, nicely decorated, good facilities, good sized comfy bed. The beach was nice white sand, but the water in front of it was murky and with bits of vegetation floating in it constantly. Although a beach cottage, some of them are set back, so you don't actually see the sea from your window - and they are all quite close together, with very little privacy, so you'll have the shutters down all the time anyway.

The outside bathroom was ok - good shower, and bath (although on one rainy day, the water temperature was a bit lukewarm - not great after a day's diving when you want to soak the salt out of your hair). Toiletries were NOT good - combined shampoo & conditioner is never a good sign. And I could definitely do without having the toilet outside as well - it's hot and humid, and if you are feeling at all ill, you don't need that temperature change as you visit the facilities.

Restaurants - the Thai restuarant and La Casa Luna were very good. There was also a fair range of reasonably priced wine, which was a nice change from the Hilton. The included breakfast was ok, but the room is badly designed, with overhead fans under the lights, causing a very quease inducing strobe effect at several of the tables, including the one they tried to put us on. The real thing that ruined Full Moon for us was the food during the day, when the only option (other than an overpriced soup and salad health lunch at the buffet room) was the Sunset Cafe - the prosciutto ham and gouda panini was ok, as was the fish part of the fish and chips, but the rest of the menu we tried verged from inedible (the calamary) to distinctly underwhelming. Room service was basically the Sunset Cafe menu, so no better.

Bars - were ok. They looked nice, particularly the airconditioned Drifter's club, but the drinks were not particularly strong, and they clearly couldn't do any that weren't on the menu - no expert cocktail makers, certainly.

Diving - fantastic. The sites near the resort were varied and interesting, coral was not always great, if they were outer reef, and visibility was good but not great - maybe 10-15 metres most dives - but the marine life more than made up for it. We saw mantas on 4 or 5 dives, turtles on more, lots of eels. On one dive we saw three mantas circling a giant turtle. The highlight was seeing a honeycombed moray eel deciding to snack on an octopus - clouds of ink, and the eel swam off with the octopus wrapped round his face. Sadly my uw camera had broken that dive :-(

The Euro divers dive centre staff were very friendly and helpful but BEWARE if you are an air hog - the standard tanks are only 10 litre, with only Nitrox in 12 L so my husband had to take the first stage of the Nitrox course to be able to make the most of the one hour dive time limit - this compared with Hilton, where 12L was standard, but they had 15L tanks on request. I've never been to a dive centre which used 10L tanks as standard before - although they said this was usual for the maldives. The equipment hire was also very expensive - $48/day, although it went down the more you dived.

  • Disliked — the daytime food

We spent 6 nights at Full Moon as part of our honeymoon. We chose this resort after extensive research and concluding that we wanted to spend at least part of our time in a deluxe over- water bungalow (the signature accomodation of the Maldives) without having to pay the exuberant prices offered by other hotels. Full Moon didn't disappoint.

The most amazing feature for us was the landscape (see attached photos) - all those images of tropical islands which you see on travel shows and postcards are truly realised here. The waters are truly warm, clear and turquoise, the sand is truly white and fine and there is plenty of vegetation including lush palm trees decorating almost the entire island. There is also the sense of space where frequently we had the entire beach to ourselves.

As for the rooms, we spent half of our time in the beach bungalows. Our only compaint here was that it was dimly lit but otherwise the room was new and beautiful with a large bed and clean furniture. The outdoor shower and bath certainly add to the island feel. There is an decent collection of satellite tv channels almost all in English for when it rains. The balcony opens up near the beach but bear in mind that the majority of the bungalows (including ours) do not open directly onto the beach.

The remaining half of our time was spent in the water bungalows. This is definitely a higher level of luxury. There is a large king size four poster bed facing panoramic views of uninterupted turquoise ocean. The bathtub has similar views. Banana chairs are provided on the balcony where you can step directly into the ocean. Like other reviewers have mentioned, the coral is quite sharp here so we chose to swim on the other side which is only a minute's walk away.

We chose the bed and breakfast option. Breakfast offered an extensive buffet. We had small meals at the Anchorage Bar for lunch whilst sitting next to the ocean feeding the amazing collection of tropical fish which approach the shallow waters. The sting rays, eels and reef sharks are fed by staff at 6pm every evening.

We tried the Full Moon, Ban Thai, Sand Coast and Atoll Grill restaurants for dinner. All are priced similar to what you would expect at any city restaurant in Australia even when you include the 10% surcharge that most people talk about. The food is decent but our favourite was the Sand Coast cafe where we had the Maldivian lobster curry with massive chunks of real lobster for only $21.

All sports must be paid for except for table tennis and the gym (which is new and well equipped). We were disappointed that even non motorised sports like canoeing and wind surfing incured a cost. But don't let that deter you. This must be one of the best places in the world to try wind surfing if you're a beginner like us - calm, wide open blue waters with only a gentle breeze to carry you along.

The resort offers a spa and massage place on a separate island which is connected to the main island by a small walkway. We thought the price here was in fact cheaper based on the length of the massage compared to what is available in Australia.

The staff at the resort are generally very nice although the service is not always fast and efficient - this is afterall an island and things are very casual and relaxed. We aimed to let little things like this not detract from our honeymoon.

In summary, we truly had an amazing honeymoon here. It really is a paradise island at an affordable price. Enjoy the pics.

My family and I have just returned from a 5 days stay at the Full Moon and have to say that we all (including my 5 year old daughter) totally enjoyed it. From the moment we were met at the airport by the hotel until the time we left we were looked after with lots of smiles and friendly staff. We stayed in a beach cottage and had the best location (room 212) right on the beach and the outside bathroom was the best, well worth paying the extra instead of a deluxe room. The hotel has 5 restaurants, we tried the Thai (good value for money) and the Sand coast cafe (good selection & children's selection). As there is no convenience store if you like your snacks or have small children it is wise to take cartons, crisps etc with you. There is not much to do on the island but we didn't expect there to be as we were going there to relax but there are plenty of trips to go on. We went on the glass bottom boat and of course the sunset dolphin cruise which was awesome! Apart from the trips you can spend your time snorkelling (best on the water bungalow side), sunbathing / relaxing around the large pool or on the beach or even pamper yourself at the spa! All in all we had a fantastic stay the only downside is that food and drink on the island (apparently in all the islands in the maldives) it is very pricey!

4 star, value for money. water sports is cheap, fun boat at US30 and 1hr catamaran sailing with snorkelling US30 per person. food is average. stayed at water bungalow, toilet is very small and squeezy. but overall everything is fine. do not expect much. just good enough. sun, sea, bed, everything is fine and clean. staff is friendly. prices in souvenir shop is reasonable. can buy. dlx cottage bchfront will be a better choice than water bungalow. :)
can stay.

We stayed at Full Moon for 6 nights as part of our honeymoon in November 2006. The room was excellent and service as well! It was a big and luxurious bungalow. There were more than one restaurant to choose from although the ones that were not in the price for Half Board were quite expensive considering the value money has in the country, which we realised when we took the trip to Male. We saw dozens of dolphins at the other trip and thousands of multicoloured fish at another trip to the "banana reef".

It was just a perfect honeymoon even though the wheather was not optimal . Most days it was raining for a few hours but it was warm so that one could stay out, even take a shower in the outdoor shower (it may sound funny but it was awesome!). The spa was also above average and you can have massages at the same time with your friend.

The water was blue but, of course, Greece has better beaches and waters !! I heard that some hotels that are not that close to Male have better beaches, but after a long flight it is really not that necessary to go too far. The beach was picturesque!

Don't be afraid of little sharks that swim next to you... They are more afraid than you!

We decided to go back on our 5th anniversary, even with kids ! so I recommend this hotel to anyone who needs relaxation.
