“Absolutely Perfect”

Soneva Fushi Resort & Spa

I agree with almost everything the previous reviewer wrote, although our Man Friday was great, we met with him for 5 mins each day at breakfast, and he told us what we had arranged for that day, and that was it - no-one tried to sell us anything at all.

The food was out of this world, and the villa was great too. The best thing was the service, really attentive without being intrusive. When we got there the island was really quiet, apparently the quietest it's ever been according to the staff, which made it feel like we had the whole place to ourselves, perfect as it was our honeymoon.

The only disappointment that I had was that as it was so quiet I had been hoping for an upgrade, we had paid for a Crusoe Villa but I was hoping we'd be lucky and get one with a pool, as lots of people have mentioned upgrades in previous reviews. I don't know why we didn't get one, but I can't really be too harsh, after all it would have been a bonus but didn't affect our enjoyment.

The snorkelling was brilliant, we saw turtles, octopus, sharks and tons of smaller fish. Spent at least 2 hours a day in the water, then lazed away the afternoons on our very comfy padded sunbeds.

We loved cycling around on the bikes, and went all over the island - unlike the previous reviewer I had no problem following the signposts and managed to find our way everywhere very easily.

We had a complimentary dinner at the Organic Restaurant one night which was a really special location, perfect for a romantic meal. We also went to the observatory and saw Saturn with it's rings through the telescope.

All in all, we would definitely go back here again, although only if we could get half board for a reasonable price, as the food and drink is expensive. That said, you get what you pay for, and the standard is on a par with many of the best restaurants I've eaten in in the UK. They were very generous with the champagne on the dolphin cruise and at the cocktail party, so all in all I thought it was good value for money, particularly as the £ is so strong against the $ at the moment.

I've never been back to the same resort twice yet, but I would make an exception for Soneva Fushi, and my husband loved it too - I'm sure we'll be back.

We always love the Maldives and this resort was one that we had wanted to go to for some time. It was expensive, so we expected a lot and it did not let us down. From the moment that we were met at the airport the service was exceptional. The only thing we did not like was the butler concept - that's a personal preference though, and our Mr Friday was just a touch pushy. Despite diving in the mornings, snorkelling in the afternoons, walking around the island (which took around an hour), cycling, exploring and the occasional spa treatment he still kept asking us if we were planning to do anything...in other words, could he book us in for an expensive private picnic or boat trip? We may have been the exception to the rule, but we just didn't want to be organised and were already busy enough. You have a Mr Friday or guest services person and also a room boy and the Mr or Ms Friday arranges anything you want. We got the feeling that most things are possible if you have the money.

We stayed in a Crusoe Villa which was perfect for us. It was huge and we had a wonderful day bed, a table and chairs up on the balcony, another couple of table and chairs on our private beach and lovely sunbeds with padded cushions. There was more than enough space and plenty of sun and shade. We did see other villa types and we liked the Soneva Fushi villas too, but the main difference was that the bathroom was even larger - bathrooms were in a walled garden. They were very private but the only thing we noticed was that the lighting was very dim so we tended to use our ensuite bathroom for getting ready in the evenings.

The whole island is eco friendly and run in a sustainable way. The woods have all been left to go silver grey and all the linens are unbleached organic cotton so it is very much rustic luxury if that makes sense. It felt so very right for the Maldives and is far more our style than the more recently built resorts like Coco Palm Bodu Hithi.

There's loads to do and we very quickly filled our days. I completed my PADI open water there and the dive centre was very well run. There was also a marine biologist who did guided snorkel tours on the house reef and by boat. We really enjoyed that and learned so much. A highlight was cycling around the island. We quickly learned not to follow the signposts as they were all pretty useless - the first time I followed them I was late for a spa appointment...shock horror!

Food was wonderful. The main restaurant was out on the beach under the stars. Food was a la carte except for a couple of buffets. You could avoid the buffet by eating at another restaurant, although having said that the Asian buffet was rather good so we had that twice. We were glad we had half board as food and drink was horrendously expensive. The wine list was astonishing both in choice and cost. Bottled water was free, though, which was great as we drank 8 - 10 bottles a day. So many resorts give you only a bottle a day, or even none.

The Cinema Paradiso was great and so was the observatory and the organic garden restaurant where we did a cooking class one day.

All in all, a wonderful although expensive holiday. We will go back in a heartbeat as long as the credit card will stand it.

Stayed there with my wife, i heard a lot about this Six Senses Resorts & Spas property from friends of mine.
Every villas have a private beach, staff were very friendly and most of all, the style of the resort is like living like Robinson Cruose, a true definition of back to nature.

The service was really outstanding, our butler was great and not intrusive at all. Outdoor bathroom is very spacious.
We would definitely recommend this resort again.
We have even decided to go back in 1 week time

“Brilliant relaxation”

Soneva Fushi Resort & Spa

I wanted to write a review about this lovely place as we have just got home and enjoyed it so much that I just had to.

I don't usually write reviews but we had such a wonderful time.

We stayed in a Rehendi room which is the lowest tariff but you don't spend much time there so it doesn't matter. My husband and I went without the children first time without them abroad but we spent the time relaxing. If you don' really want to see anyone you don't really have to but if you do there are people for example when you are snorkelling etc.

The staff are absolutely fab nothing is a problem, your room is cleaned 2 times a day, you get the familar friendly staff faces.
Food excellent, buffet style breakfast and lunch. Evening meal at either main restaurant (where you have lunch etc) or choice of 2 other restaurants but you must book I recommended for those 2 the day before.
Everthing has to get to the islands which is why perhaps you may regard some things expensive, no main roads etc.
1 gift shop and jewellers are also there.

All rooms go out onto the beach within several feet of your room, the sunrise is great, the sunset too. I didn't walk the whole round of the island on the beach but apparently it takes 45 minutes.

The resort (if you call it resort I always think that sounds like spain well this is far from it ) is very eco friendly. Making themselves carbon free by 2010. All their own drinking water they do themselves etc. We unfortunately did not get to go to the outside cinema as works was taking place there for their eco project , which was a shame however I admire their dedication to their future.
There is an observatory where you can see the stars but the evening we chose it was too cloudy but a very large telescope is used and the roof comes back - would have been amazing - moral of the story don't leave it til your last night before you go!

Did not see one rat as I thought I might but 2 small mice but they were actually quite sweet (I normally run a mile) Little lizards different colours not at all creepy, the crabs in their beautiful various shells and cute bunnies.

This place is so worth the money, we had a spa treatment everyday, they know what they are doing they do it so well, a treatment in silence so you can relax. My husband and I had treatments together in the same room which was a great experience together too. (2 beds and 2 ladies)

Whilst speaking with the management one day I was told in the holidays when children are there they do baking etc with them which sounds great. There was only I think 5 children in all there when we were there but still ideal for them anytime, wonderful place to explore.

I did snorkelling for the first time and I am quite a conventional sunbather, you know tan and relaxing etc but I had a go at snorkelling and wow wonderful, beautiful fish. My husband tried his first time at diving, wishes he had done at the begining of the week so he could have taken his test etc but we were so busy doing nothing that we didn't give it a thought but this is also well worth doing ( he saw a turtle)
You could see on 2 days Dolphins from both sides of the island in a pack of roughly 20.

Bicycles come with you room with your room number on the back as your number plate, marvellous you use it as your mode on transport driving on the left, well we were wobberly the first day but after that quite liberating as I hadn't riden for years.
I've got home and got my old bike out!

Tuesday night between 6 - 8 there is a cocktail party on the sandbank which is exactly as it says a sandbank a couple of miles out from the island all on its own boats take you there and you just mingle as this this probably the most people you will ever see as somedays normally you could see a couple. You drink champagne etc have some nibbles and watch the band (sort of tribal) dance and bang.

I could go on forever definatley worth many more visits, I asked the staff about repeat visitors they see the same people 8 - 10 times! Says alot, when asking about christmas apparently already booked. Shame

Everything is already said about Soneva Fushi. Extraordinary, eco deluxe approach mixed with superb service in surrounding out of this world.

What personally amazed me the most was that resort was 90% full yet feeling was that there is nobody on the island.

Upgraded on arrival (from rehendi room to soneva villa), situated on the sunset side of the island. During our stay sunrise part of the island was quite windy so sunset part seemed as better option. My wife and I used SPA quite often and on almost all occasions I felt asleep (of course snoring which was complaint by my wife) which I almost never do during the massages, I guess this tell how good service is.
Snorkeling in area around Champagne Bar is equal to snorkeling in aquarium only little better.

Food well came back with few more kilos. In villa barbecue was absolute highlight. Sirah, our barbecue master chef was perfect. Lobster was amazing. Must do if you go there.

Organic garden restaurant location and surrounding is outstanding, with more up market approach.

Lobster curry and king fish was a great choice, but mango sauce as entree was unbelievable. I think they are still mentioning four of us and our seven portion of it.

So is there anything better then SF, yes it is - desert island. Six hours of complete isolation, sun, sea, waves and champagne. It is hard to explain the feeling if you didn’t try it.

Room service was a bit slow, we saw couple of mice in organic restaurant, our bathroom and bar (didn’t see rats though staff told us they have it), cockroach in our bathroom and room and that’s about it.
Will we go back? I can’t wait. Best experience of my life.
