“Incredible”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2013

First off, I consider my lucky to have stayed at the Dusit Thani. Not that many Americans make this trip but it is really worth it and the Dusit Thani Maldives is an excellent choice. The resort is just beyond belief and so unlike anything you find in Hawaii or the Caribbean. The check-in after your boat or sea plane ride from the Male airport is perfect. No cars, no highways, just incredible heart felt hospitality. It is so worth the travel from the USA. I connected via Abu Dhabi had no problems. The food and style of this resort are unique in the Maldives. I had a lobster dish at the Thai restaurant that rivaled anything I had ate while traveling thru France. The accommodations are new and fresh. The outdoor style bathrooms are great. The spa treatments are first class in elevated cool calming oasis. We had a picnic on an uninhabited island nearby that will never be forgotten. I learned how to scuba dive for this trip and got my PADI certification several months before (be sure to get qualified to a 30m depth if you can). The house reef is fun and full of aquatic life. The whole dive staff just make it a true pleasure to be there - beginner like myself or expert. You will never forget any aspect of your experience.

Sawasdee krup! It is truly rewarding to know that we have been able to create a ‘wow’ experience for you – especially that you travelled quite a long distance from Texas, USA to reach our little dot on the map. We are always thrilled when guests from the other side of the world discover our paradise in the Indian Ocean and like a treasure chest, unearth what we have to offer with much expectation and excitement. Our team is particularly glad that you enjoyed our Thai restaurant Benjarong, as we consider these flavours to be our culinary gift and we are happy that you found the cuisine here satisfactory.

Thank you very much for giving us the opportunity to provide you with our signature hospitality and an unforgettable experience in the Maldives.

Yours sincerely,

Desmond Hatton

Been to Maldives a few times, not the biggest beach villa I've stayed at, however the kids were able to play around with one extra bed & a baby cot in the room. Service is top notch, our butler Sinan is proactive and responsive on what we need. The staff at restaurants are very friendly to the kids and almost every morning my girl was greeted in her name. :) The bathroom is half-outdoor with 3 showers so everyone could get a shower after playing at the beach which was just few steps from the villa. The island is huge & lush and to stay at the beach villa our room wasn't exposed to those walking on the beach. Food was excellent, mouth watering with variety. I particularly like to "Behind The Scene" tour, we got to see the power plant and water plant which is something we don't see in a city life and very educational.

This is our second visit this year to Dusit Thani and love it as much this time as last time. t
The staff is absolutely first class- attentive, dedicated, hard working and efficient - they create an absolutely unparalleled resort atmosphere of calm relaxation and happiness. Our butler Nahed is completely wonderful - intelligent and cheerful- she makes everything look effortless. We would like to take her with us everywhere ! The assistant GM Andras is clearly a very positive force on the island.

The food is fantastic - Chef James Williamson is creative and dedicated. The food was not only tasty but really healthy. Felt invigorated by the food here.

The island itself is lovely - the house reef is gorgeous and easily accessible. There are plenty of fish and turtles to see. Thankfully there are no jet skis and water skis to ruin it or to be concerned about when snorkling.

The rooms we have stayed in are immaculate, beautifully designed, well maintained, clean and comfortable. I was hitting 10 hours of sleep some nights. It is superior in every way to the both Four Seasons Maldives and the Anantara. Love it so !

This is a very late review. We stayed here in May 2012 for a fortnight, we had booked a beach villa with a pool. When we arrived, it was not quite what we expected and because the hotel was very full we managed to negotiate a very reasonable upgrade to an ocean villa with a pool - this was amazing. From here on out (apart from a few rainy days) it was heaven. We were looking for complete rest and relaxation and we got it. The luxury of having a morning espresso on the deck looking out onto the ocean is not something either of us will forget . The staff couldn't be friendlier and were always very helpful. The breakfasts was outstanding - there is a fruit sommelier! So much choice. As we were there on a B&B basis, we tended to eat breakfast late, having first visited gym, then had an afternoon snack and most nights we ate at the Grill restaurants as this was al a carte and was very good value. One night we visited the buffet and one night we visited the Thai restaurant. These were both $125 a head regardless of what you actually ate and I would say of a lower standard to the options at the Grill. Everything we tried was extremely tasty but we had two meals that really stood out. One night we had a special champagne dinner which was in their wine room. This was a dinner where each of the courses were paired to a particular champagne and we dined with the restaurant manager, head chef and sommelier which was a really great experience. The other dinner was after we went on a fishing trip, the chef very kindly prepared and cooked the fish that we had caught. In terms of activities, as with most Maldives resorts, there is not a lot to do if you are not into snorkelling. We sunbathed a lot, played tennis in the evenings, went to the gym, went for walks or cycled a bit (although it is a very small island). We only had a few small niggles - the in-room movie system did not work very well for us and we did not manage to successfully watch a film. I think this is because it relies upon an internet connection which was clearly not up to the job. We didn't tend to go for a drink in the evening (other than with dinner) as the bar was lacking atmosphere, and although the bartender was very nice, he couldn't make a cocktail to save his life - his 'green island' consisted of, among other ingredients, balieys, cointreau and creme de menthe! Overall, it was a very memorable holiday and I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone.

Room Tip: Ocean villas are much much superior to lagoon or beach villas.

Sawasdee krup! We were delighted to have you as one of our preliminary guests during the resort's soft simulation period in May 2012. Thank you for your review of your stay.

We are very pleased to let you know that since your visit 16 months ago, we have normalised our operations and are celebrating our one year anniversary on September 9, 2013. We have taken strides to make a vast number of enhancements to provide our promised level of gracious hospitality to our guests. Restaurant and bar operations led by our current executive Chef James Williams have been further developed, and our signature Thai restaurant Benjarong is now offering its renowned range of authentic Thai specialities for which we have received much praise. However, please allow me to clarify the pricing of our buffet which remains at the $80-90 range, featuring an ever-changing international selection.

As we strive for continuous improvement and we all look forward to surpassing your expectations and would love for you to come and experience the resort again in the near future.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2013

We stay in this resort during early August for 4 nights. This is our 2nd visit to Maldives. Our first visit was 4 years ago and this time with our 3 years old little boy.

As others commented before, the hotel is new and well maintained, all staff are friendly and helpful, food in the restaurant are excellent with many choices, villa is clean and spacious. Spa service is good and price is acceptable. We were lucky that during our stay, weather was nice with not much rain.

Here're some points / tips that we observed during our stay which we hope other travellers can note when plan for their trip and hotel's management can also be aware of if they wish to improve their services:-

1. Majority of the guests are from Asia, especially China. They usually come in a big group. They caused much noise and disturbances to other guests, no matter in the bar, restaurant, pool or the reception area. There's nothing wrong with the hotel nor can the hotel can control of, and we can see that all hotel staff are trying hard to serve them. But this is something that we are not expected of, at least not happened in our 1st trip in Maldives.

2. A lot of guests (especially those from China) are smokers. We would strongly recommend the hotel to separate smoking and non-smoking area in all restaurants. It's very unhealthy (especially we have young kid) to have someone seating in next table enjoying his cigar while we were enjoying our breakfast in the early morning.

3. We witnessed a guest from China who threw cigarette into the water while he was waiting for the dining table at the hotel's signature Thai restaurant. This is something totally environmental unfriendly. I would suggest the hotel to do something more to "educate" or remind their China guests about this. More sign posts may be required in the hotel.

4. Before the trip, we had sent several emails directly to the hotel to confirm the provision of certain kids amenities and DVD player in the villa. The Reservation Team responded our emails very fast and confirmed most of the items that we requested for. However, upon checked in, none of them are yet available and we had to make same request again with our butler. Luckily our butler (Hanan) is very helpful and she fixed the items for us very fast.

4. The resort provides snokelling equipment on complimentary basis. We borrowed the equipment from the Dive Centre but unfortunately after we borrowed them for less than one hour, the mask for our son was broken when we tried to teach him how to use it in our private pool. When we tried to exchange the mask, the Dive Centre was willing to give us another one but charged us US$27 by saying that we were at fault to break the old one. They alleged that all equipments are brand new when lend to guests and so no doubt it is because we don't know how to the equipment and therefore breaks it. My husband totally cannot accept such accusation as he is a licensed diver. Also, it is very obvious that the mask is not "brand new" as what the staff claimed. When we told this to our butler, she totally understand our grievance and helped us to waive the said amount on the same day. This is a small incident but wrong allegation and accusation against guests are not bearable for a 5 stars hotel.

5. We paid the extra for the pure indulgence plan, which means that apart from full board meal plan, all beverages in restuarants and bars and drinks in the mini bar are included. This caused much convenience to us. However, it seems that not all the staff are aware of this plan and do not fully understand what is being included in the plan. For example, according to the plan, we are supposed to enjoy the privilege of check-in in the villa. Yet, we had check-in at the reception just like other guests.

Notwithstanding the above, we would still rate this resort with 5 points as excellent. The points are given for the excellent hardware and facilities of the resort, as well as the credit of the services of most of the hotel staff.

Room Tip: Opt for Ocean villa if you can effort the extra. More quiet and exclusive.

Sawasdee krub! On behalf of the team, thank you for your honest review of your stay at Dusit Thani Maldives. We are delighted that you have rated us as an excellent resort – fortunately the weather was kind. I am glad that you enjoyed our food and beverage offerings as well as the services at Devarana Spa.

Your constructive feedback is highly appreciated as it aids us to pinpoint the areas where we should focus for improvement, so as to provide our promise of delivering gracious hospitality. I have personally relayed your feedback to the team, to ensure continuous training and improvement of our services.

With regard to your note on the considerable number of Asian guests, we do in fact cater to a mix of clientele from all over the world and any apparent majority of a particular nationality normally coincides with a region’s national or school holidays. Currently we are in the period of the Chinese summer holidays.

We have ordered No Smoking signs for all restaurants in accordance with the new law, to provide more comfort to our guests. We have also implemented stricter measures to advocate guests’ environmental consciousness, and rest assured that we will do more to ensure that the staff keep a watchful eye.

Having checked our reservation records, we did find your special requests noted in our system and apologise sincerely for overlooking them. We have addressed the matter with our Front Office team, where further training and guidance is in progress. We have also re-briefed the team on our Pure Indulgence Package.

Furthermore, I have shared your experience with our Dive School Operator. Rest assured that their policies will be thoroughly looked into to meet guests’ expectations. We are ensuring that the unpleasantness of your encounter is not repeated in the future.

Do know that all of us at the resort are committed to improve upon our services, and provide you with an even more memorable experience on your next visit to the Maldives. We look forward to welcoming you again.

Sincerely,

Desmond Hatton

I wanted to plane a quick vacation to the Maldives, after a quick search, I selected Dusit Maldives after reading very good reviews on Trip Advisor. When we arrived at Male Airport, The Hotel staff greeted us and took us into a nice lounge, after quick refreshments, we took the sea plan to the hotel. We arrived at the Hotel we were greeted a very nice lady who introduced herself as our host. She took us to the reception area and completed our check-in, then drove us to our villas.
The beach villas were very nice, well equipped with all the necessary amenities, the beach in front of our villas was very nice quiet, clean, the lagoon was just perfect for swimming or snorkeling. During our 8 days stay we rendered the services of the Water Sport center, which offer very nice deals for Big Game Fishing, Snorkeling trips, and diving courses, which both my son and daughter signed up for, and received their Open Water Diving License from the PADI Certified center on the Island. The Lady in charge of their diving course, was very nice, accommodating to my kid’s needs, and very friendly. We also had a quick Marine Live preservation session with the residence Marine Biologist who educated us on Turtle followed by a snorkeling trip to watch Turtles.
The cool think about Dusit that the host attends to all your needs, we celebrated my daughter’s 18th birthday, the Host planned the hole evening, which turned to be a lovely memorable night, all we had to do is to ask her to arrange for a surprised birthday part, and it was a party that my daughter will never forget.
The Restaurants on the Island offered a great deal of varieties, very delicious, service is exceptional. I remember waiters who offered me a special drink every morning during breakfast, which made me, feel that he really cares about the hotel guests.
During our stay we also experience the residential villa for the last two night, which I have to say is fantastic. It is a two story huge villa with its own infinity pool, (how cool is that).
During a cocktail party, we met the General Manager, the Executive Manager, and the Marketing Manager who were very keen to listen to our feedback.
I can say from experience traveling almost around the world since I was 19 years old, Dusit Maldives was one of the best Hotels I have stayed in, if I to visit the Maldives again (most likely) I will select Dusit Maldives again, and will recommend it to all my friend and social networks.

My thanks and regards to all staff at Dusit Maldives.

When I booked this holiday for my wife's 50th I wasn't sure if it was the right thing to do after we have spend the last 7 years going to Jumeriah in Dubai. I must say our 10 nights were fantastic the service was excellent along with all the staff there are too many names to mention, the General Manager Desmond was superb nothing was too much trouble and took time to chat to all the guests in the restaurants and on his walk a bouts. Our butler Nahed looked after us throughout our holiday and was on hand to help and advise. This was our first experience with snorkeling and it was the best thing we could have done the team were well organised and helpful and our guide took us out and showed us some fantastic fish and coral. The food was selection and variety was second to none and we have been to some fantastic restaurants in many other countries.
A truly excellent choice of holiday and we will be going back.
