As the saying goes: "The first impression counts" and is based purely on, researching their website; reading pages of reviews and consistent responses from management, to feedback given. (Ever since the new GM took over the helm.) Even after weeks of researching and although I preferred an all-inclusive package from another property and a supposedly better marine life activity. It was my wife who said: "Let's give Constance Halaveli a shot and see if they live up to the 1st impression. After all, it'll be our first Maldivian experience, for the three of us."
Kudos to Team Halaveli! They not only live up to expectation, they went beyond. Not just on the property itself but by their service excellence. The following are what we felt best fits our experiences with Constance Halaveli.
+'Live up to Expectation' - The property+.
Fellow tripadvisors, we do not need to say much. All can be read from other contributors. And they are absolutely spot-on. A slow casual walk around the island takes only 10 mins plus the longest walkway pier to water villas in Maldives, provides an excellent jog with fresh air & a view, one will never get tired of.
We stayed on one of the water villas. Yes, although marine life may not be in abundance, but it is fully sufficient to keep us entertained. Each & every villa, will have their own 'resident fishes'. Every once in awhile, a surprise pops up. We saw a turtle once. Black tip shark almost daily. Manta rays around the dive center, occasionally one or two swam past our villa. Marine activity during low tide etc. My teenage daughter truly enjoyed the daily snorkeling, especially near the reef drop. Incidentally, I was told, it goes down as deep as 40feet. Can you imagine the marine life already? Thank you Ibrahim Amir aka 'Ibi' for your wonderful tips on snorkeling areas. He's the one at the water sports center. Do check on him for tips, when you get there. The crews from dive center as well. There is enough to spot daily, that we have yet snorkel other areas,
+Team Halaveli & Service+.
They are a wonderful group of both local & international staff, from Asia to Europe, even one from Kurdistan (if I heard that correctly). Lead by GM Mr Renato Chizzola & his right hand man, Mr Bertrand Blanchet. These guys are hands-on. My daughter has wondered & asked me, if Mr Bertrand has a day off. We meet him during breakfast, dinner and almost everywhere. And you get greetings, either with a smile or by name, from almost every staff that one passes by. From front office to restaurants, even from back-end guys. Housekeeping to kitchen staff in their F&B buggy.
Many thanks to front office: Rossana; Miki; Rachel; Chiaki for all email correspondences and our request. And many more names that flew pass me. I sincerely apologize. At Jahaz restaurant, one of these guys must have picked out our favorite table. It all began on our second dinner day. A table set-up for two, became three. Thank you Rasheed & Habeeb, you two made our eating time enjoyable.Coming by discreetly to each & every guest/family. I know you guys are all eyes & ear, so are mine.
A very special thank you to Sampath. Our wine sommelier, whose keenest in sharing his knowledge and excellent recommendations on food pairing, and showing us the wine cellar. Do look him up for a special dinner evening with him, in the wine cellar at Jing's. It is a real special experience.
Some of which are already mentioned by fellow contributors. In a very short time, they will know your preferences, taste, favorite spot, nespresso flavor etc. But what impress most me, was the execution from feedback. They meant what they say. Yes, I may be on vacation, but I brought along reviews read, with my own eyes & ear open. Many issues are rectified.
There were three personal experiences. 1) We left home and arrive, without our cigarettes. I am fortunate to find my brand there but without 'menthol'. Mr Renato happened to call upon us and I casually mentioned about it. After our dinner, upon arriving back to the villa. The number of packs and flavor, was already placed in our villa. Renato delivered our wishes. Strike one!
2) On the third morning breakfast at Jahaz, a casual remark to Mr Bertrand, on how nice it will be, if there's an incense oil burner in our villa. A surprise strike two. And all throughout the rest of our stay, the aroma truly relaxes our body and mind. Of course, if housekeeping have left us extra candles, just like the nespresso pods, that would have been better.
3) We were at Jahaz for dinner one evening, upon confirmation with Sampath, for our special dinner at wine cellar, we were astonish to find a letter of reservation, has already been placed. All 3 of us, were in awe, as we just booked our reservation and the time taken was a stroll back after a sumptuous meal. As for #4, personally to me, is their 'Walk of Flame' held once a week. Whereby all guest are invited to mingle by the beach at Jahaz Bar, but most importantly, it is for the staff. My being in the service industry has taught me that good service is one way. Great and outstanding service takes two hand to clap. Kudos!
Last but not least, on departure day, while waiting for our seaplane. I saw a flag flown in blue and realise there and then, why we had such great time in Constance Halaveli and why the service is top notch. In order to be associated with this group/club, Contance group has to pass a very stringent requirement of service standard & excellence, for each & every Constance resort/property. They are now part of Leading Hotels of the World. I should have delayed my stay in early December. Nevertheless, Team Halaveli, I may be on my way again coming Feburary, for my 19th anniversary. Once again, thank you all, for making our stay a memorable one.
