“Mouldy Walls”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2013

Although the outside appearance is good, there are several reasons why I won't visit this hotel again.

(1) There was thick mould all over the walls and ceiling in our bedroom (picture attached) - totally unacceptable in this price range. The room was on the second floor. We asked for another room, which we received, at least. The second room was ok

(2) The shuttle bus to KL city had a burst tyre on the highway. The bus driver got out of the bus without any announcement. After one hour of being left alone without any information, another bus picked us up from the place. There was no apology or comment whatsoever from the hotel management/staff. (picture attached)

(3) At the restaurant, I
ordered a dish, which according to the menu card, included a salad. However, they brought no salad. I asked for it again, but received it long after I had already finished the main dish. On another day, I had a soup and asked for bread - the waiter asked "You want bread?", but finally did not bring it. The list could be enlarged, but the point is that the service was generally quite unprofessional (unacceptable for a hotel in this range)

(4) I had to scan a document, consisting of 8 pages. I was charged 20 RM for this "service". Other hotels do this for free.

(5) A few days after my stay, I was asked via email to give my customer feedback to the hotel management. I took the time to write a detailled letter, and received an automatic reply that the management would contact me soon and reply to my message. After one months, I still did not receive any response.

In sum, I would not recommend to stay at the Equatorial Hotel in Bangi.

Attended a training course here.....old charm, a bit far from the city about 45 mins. Rooms were a bit old but good nevertheless. Problem is the transport in and from KL and Sunway Pyramid area. Good for business, training and golf excursions but not recommended for family or getaway with friends. Food at La Vista cafe is good but somewhat limited. Nevertheless, good 5 days stay.

Room Tip: Get a room with the view of the pool

Booked online through booking.com two nights over a weekend, King Room Non Smoking request quiet room.
Checkin: staff disinterested, no confirmation of room type, no conversation at all actually. Given key to a room and waved away to the lifts. We walked what seemed to be about five minutes to the other end of the hotel, opened the door, room looked OK but WOW what is that noise? Open the balcony door and we are right next to some sort of kitchen exhaust system, sounded like a jet engine, there goes the quiet room.

We tramp all the way back to reception, explain to the bored clerk that we want a quiet room. She says sorry dont have any other King non smoking. can give twin smoking, say no, make noise, miraculously a room over the pool is found with King NS. No word of apology from the clerk. Arrived at new room, not cleaned very well, dirty toilet and bathroom, hair in bath, previously used towels behind door.

Need to relax so we go to the tee off bar, we are offered a menu that has a good selection of beer, order beer, do not have that beer sir, order another kind, dont have that one either sir. Ends up they only have tiger and carlsberg at the moment! Ordered two tiger, one two inches less full than the other, ask why? We just ran out of tiger.

Ordered food, was OK but boring, not seasoned at all.

Next day, planning for dinner at around 3.30pm, wander off to the buffet restaurant...hmm ok. There is a Japanese restaurant next door, sounds good, can we have a look at the menu please....ummm no you have to come back at 6:30pm, we dont have a menu. can someone just jump out the back and get one? no sir sorry you have to come back. Come back at 6;30 ask for the menu, look at menu, looks great sounds good, like to make a booking sir, sure, 7.30 OK set. Come back at 7:30, oh sorry sir buffet tonight, the menu is not available!! Great thanks for being up front about it. Buffet was great though.

Now, warning to all, be careful with the hotel transport desk. Bangi to Putrajaya City for RM30, hmm OK then, Bangi back to KL RM65, a bit expensive but it is Bangi and maybe they have the monopoly on the taxi service. We need to get back to KL on the day of departure so we book it and ask the concierge if we can get the driver to stop at Masjid Jamek for five minutes on the way back to KL, we had to collect something from a shop there. Concierge grumbled a bit but agreed to stop at no extra cost. Great, booked settled. Checked out (again the same disinterest), loaded our luggage into the taxi, sat down, buckled up and we see the young driver grumbling at the concierge who booked our taxi. The driver then turns to us and without so much as good morning, he states you want to stop it will cost you extra RM20. We say no and explain the agreement, he says no and demands 20. We say no, he kicks us out of the taxi, he starts yelling at us and the Concierge in Malay, we get out, unload our bags (I thought they had a concierge desk), he keeps yelling, gets into the taxi, slams the door and screeches off. Not a very good farewell and certainly not five star.

We complain to the Duty Manager, she duly apologises, organises a local taxi who agrees to stop off but wants RM70 for the trip, we take it out of desperation to get out of there.

On the plus side, the pool is absolutely amazing. Its free form, heaps of space, theres a lap section, a few quiet spots, a spa pool and coconut trees that provide heaps of shade.

The hotel is good, the pool, rooms, decor, restaurants, food OK but sadly let down by the most important factor, the service.

Room Tip: Ask for the pool view.

I've been a regular customer for over 10 years by now and think that they've done quite well. The food has been marvelous! Went to the gym and enjoyed the facility very much. The pool's usually good. My room was clean and quiet but of course by now I can feel that it's ageing. Few things may need to be replaced by now. The TV channels were aplenty. Last but not least, I cannot understand why internet is made free when budget hotels can provide at no cost. Overall, as of now, I'd come back to this hotel whenever I have things to do in Bangi and probably Putrajaya too.

Room Tip: Ask for pool view.

Visited the hotel with family. The scenery was great, overlooking the golf course with plenty of good clean fresh air.
Rooms were spacious and well maintained, balconies often had visiting squirrels in the early morning.
The food was excellent, lots of variety from all nations and waiting staff were very helpful.
Outdoor swimming pools kept the children entertained in the mornings, unfortunately they were not allowed to use other sporting facilities but were quite intrigued by the huge fishes in the ponds.

Despite the limited facilites for children, my children loved it and want to stay there again.

many years after my last stay at the hotel, i have returned with disappointment on the furnishing of the hotel. It still commands a majestic scenery. The room is huge. However, the furnishing is really old. the shower quality is especially bad, very low water pressure with drain that doesn't drain properly. air cond seems uncontrollable.

only plus point is that the hotel staff is helpful , polite and friendly and the nice scenery and proximity to KLIA.

The room here is really spacious, clean and tidy! It has a bathtub with a separate shower cubicle! I was staying on at 7th floor and the view from the balcony is definitely a beautiful one across the flat land to the mountains. The outdoor swimming pool is really big and looks inviting! There is a golf course here and will be ideal for golf lovers! This place is really quiet as it is a distance away from everything else like shops and malls but definitely good for a quiet getaway which is also fairly near to the Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
