“We felt like treasured friends..”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2009

....rather than paying guests!
We stayed for three nights during the Rainforest World Music Festival. It was the perfect choice of accommodation. Everyone at The Village House goes out of their way to be open and friendly and they are very service-oriented. We will certainly return.

We stayed at the Village House for 3 nights in July and absolutely loved it! The atmosphere is so peaceful and relaxing, the rooms are impeccably clean, the decoration is lovely, the service is wonderful, the food is delicious! What more can I say?! I highly recommend this place for a relaxing trip. It is a 2 minute walk from the beach, although partly mangroves...but beautiful! Great sunsets, beautiful views of mount Santubong, only about 4k from the Cultural Village.
We will defintely be back there! Thank you to the Village house team, including Laurence, Donald and Marina who all made us feel at home!

I spent two nights at the Village House on a short four-day trip to Kuching and surroundings in June 2009. After having visited Bako National Park and various other sights nearby, I relaxed for two days at this excellent place. It is not a hotel, but a homestay, as the manager, Lawrence, referred to it. And that's exactly how it felt: very laid back, feel as if you were at home. I also liked the very friendly staff - owners, manager, service, cook, everybody! - and I enjoyed that it has not yet been discovered by many travellers: only three guests including myself! - So I might better keep it as a secret to myself... I would go back anytime and particularly recommend it for a short trip over from Singapore or KL.

Stayed at Village House for two nights in May 2009 and loved it. While there are not an abundance of activities near the hotel, if you're looking for VERY freindly staff, great food, and a very nice little hotel, Village House is for you! We felt like family the entire time. This is a fantastic place to kick back and relax for a day or so after visiting the other sites in and around Kuching. There is a cheap shuttle that runs from Kuching too.

We spent the first night of our long weekend in Kuching at Singhassana Lodge in Kuching City and enjoyed that too, althought its more like a hostel. Private room was nice, and would also recommend this as a convenient and inexpensive hotel in Kuching.

a beautifully designed small boutique hotel. Great service. However not a lot to do unless you work out before hand what and where you want to go

We stayed for 3 nights in this lovely guesthouse. We were warm welcomed by the outstanding staff and they have done their best to make our stay as pleasant as possible. They made us feel very welcomed.

We stayed in their Rajah Rooms. This is a spacious room with a big bathroom and huge TV. The beds are really comfy. Every night they closed the curtains for us and switched on the aircon.

The breakfast is served outside and is very decent. The staff is really outstanding and the cook always came to ask whether we liked the food and changed the food to our wishes.

What I found most enchanting about this place is the serene rest. It's the perfect place to chill out a couple of days. It's located just outside the kampung of Santubong, close to the beach and in the back Mount Santubong is rising. During my Sarawak trip this was the best place I stayed. I would highly recommend this hotel and I will come back for sure.
Donald, Marina, Darling and Laurens and the other staff (forgot their names) made our stay truly memorable. They really know what is real hospitality.

We really enjoyed our stay at Village House. We also stayed at Singghasana - their sister hostel in Kuching City and would have to recommend both - although they are very different. Village House is the perfect destination is you are looking to have a relaxing weekend in Borneo - a good base to see the sites, but yet tucked away and off the beaten track. Donald, Marina and Darling really made us feel very welcome. Their personal touches are really what made the holiday. They welcomed us with cold towels, fresh orange juice and remembered all of our names for the duration of our stay. We would definitely go back. The food is very good and the breakfast is one of the best we have sampled in Asia - and we have stayed at ALOT of places. This is not a 5* luxury resort but rather better described as a boutique hideaway for those looking to escape from city life.

  • Liked — People, accomodation, layout, food, service, welcome on arrival
  • Disliked — Food service was a little slow, Chicken was fatty
