We had to re-arrange our reservation before traveling, and then decided to extend our stay, and this was all handled courteously and promptly (thank you, Audry!).
We found the hotel is in a quiet semi-undeveloped area, but set in a pleasant little garden, with a covered 'lodge' festooned with traditional artifacts, good to sit in when the temperature eases (or once you are used to the heat and humidity) and when it rains. The rooms are well-proportioned and the air conditioning excellent. There's a lift to all floors, and 24-hour reception. Laundry is done promptly and well.
The standard buffet breakfast (included in the room price) is fine, and special orders are generally really good. We quickly got used to the slightly idiosyncratic order of service of dishes (strange to us western folk, but quite normal in Malaysia, we found), and enjoyed laying bets as to which order (mine/his/first/main) would arrive first. The menu range is good, and vegetarian options can be provided. All in all, the staff cannot do enough to help.
It's close enough to walk to the riverside down-town area, the big new shopping mall, and a lovely public park, to satisfy most holiday makers. More distant visits and tours can be arranged by the hotel, or you can phone for a taxi or mini-bus and do it yourself. There is so much to see in and around Kuching, and this hotel makes a very nice, very good-value base. We'd gladly stay there again.
