“Very friendly and helpful staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2012

We had to re-arrange our reservation before traveling, and then decided to extend our stay, and this was all handled courteously and promptly (thank you, Audry!).

We found the hotel is in a quiet semi-undeveloped area, but set in a pleasant little garden, with a covered 'lodge' festooned with traditional artifacts, good to sit in when the temperature eases (or once you are used to the heat and humidity) and when it rains. The rooms are well-proportioned and the air conditioning excellent. There's a lift to all floors, and 24-hour reception. Laundry is done promptly and well.

The standard buffet breakfast (included in the room price) is fine, and special orders are generally really good. We quickly got used to the slightly idiosyncratic order of service of dishes (strange to us western folk, but quite normal in Malaysia, we found), and enjoyed laying bets as to which order (mine/his/first/main) would arrive first. The menu range is good, and vegetarian options can be provided. All in all, the staff cannot do enough to help.

It's close enough to walk to the riverside down-town area, the big new shopping mall, and a lovely public park, to satisfy most holiday makers. More distant visits and tours can be arranged by the hotel, or you can phone for a taxi or mini-bus and do it yourself. There is so much to see in and around Kuching, and this hotel makes a very nice, very good-value base. We'd gladly stay there again.

Stayed 5 nights in a renovated room on first floor. Nice bathroom, flat screen tv, king size bed, safe, complimentary bottles of water, coffee and tea. Friendly helpful staff! Breakfast was served à la carte because there were few clients at the time we were there. We also had a few western meals at the hotel that were good...beer was also cheap! It is not too far from town walking...there is a little short cut...ask the reception! We liked our stay at Telang Usan and would recommand it!

Room was very spacious for two people sharing. Breakfast (included) was adequate. Additional requests, for iron, hairdryer, and extra towels, were helpfully provided, and hotel safe box was very well sorted. The hotel is near local bars, the laundry around the corner provides cheap laundry service and there is a supermarket nearby. A good location to explore the city for a few days.

Good hotel for short stay - 3-5 days.
Not far from city center. Laundry is awful, but clothes was rewashed for free after complain.
Good breakfast. You can order any excursion from reception. Not far from hotel you can find motorbike rent (40ringgit). Wi fi is fast but is available only from lobby.

When we first arrived there i have the impression that it was quite a walk from the main town but after 2 days, we kinda got used to it so it's ok i guess. The room was ok & spacious, although our bathroom has some blackish moldy thingy on d bottom side of the door (which was a big deal for someone a bit clean freak like me but my husband x seem to mind). The breakfast was nice but nothing special & d interior decor is quite nice as well (it's based on a Sarawakian tribe)

We came back to telang Usan following a visit about 9 years ago, when we spent 3 days in Kuching in March 2012. Telang Usan looks a little bit dodgy when you arrive, its tucked away in an odd cul de sac and the greenery around the hotel looks slightly overgrown and daunting. Be brave - this is a gem of an affordable hotel, with lovely staff and a surprisingly good breakfast.

The room we stayed in was clean, but possibly a little stale when we first arrived - once the air con was on the room was fine - large bed, slightly out of date TV but it doesn't matter becuase you're in Kuching to sight see and wander. The hotel is in a great location - 5 minutes walk from the waterfront, china town, the markets.....

This hotel room cost me RM110 online through the hotel's website but I know you could get it for RM95 if you turned up and asked. For double the money you could stay in the Pullman hotel which is ten times better (my friends paid AUS$70 per night). The rooms were simple and relatively clean. They were serviced daily but sometimes the cleaner forgot to replace fash washers, towels or water. Rooms had a small tv and a kettle. It was a 10 minute walk to the Kuching Waterfront. There were restaurants and bars very close to the hotel. I had breakfast in the hotel cafe and it was fine.

Room Tip: There was no difference between a standard room and a superior room.
