“Worthwhile cause!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 5, 2013

It was the experience of a lifetime! This project deserves to bloom as they do such vital work in conservation of orangutan! Natasha, Leo, Kerry, Alvin and Christina made this project a worthwhile cause to support.

“WORTH SEEING WHILE IN KUCHING”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 1, 2013

Me and My Lovely Wife been in Kuching for one week;) Every day we have tried to go somewhere else. One day we have hired private guide who took us around the city. One of the places we went to was Natural Park with Orangutans,we have managed to get there for feeding time which was really cool, actually o was slightly disappointed, because I thought we will get much close to them, but from other side I understand that Orangutans are wild animals and they can be VERY DANGEROUS !!
We could see some pictures on the reception, where were shown Rangers of the park who were attacked by Orangutans, some of them they lost their fingers.
They are Amazing Animals Anyway!!!

Hi Marcin, I believe this review is for Semenggoh and not the volunteer project at Matang. Do visit us if you're ever in Kuching again!

“Fantastic two weeks”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 24, 2013

I had a great two weeks volunteering @ Matang. It was hard work but worth it, we had a large group and I think we all got on well, some were good workers and others were slackers, but that didn't matter because the animals were still getting all the attention. They have many amazing animals at the centre and the amazing staff are doing a great job, all with limited resources. Would love to win tats lotto and give this centre heaps of money. A big thank you to Tash, Leo, Kerrie, Dom, Richard you all do an amazing job, and thanks for all the laughs. Hugs for you all.

“Do Not Miss This”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 24, 2013

To see the Orangutans swing down from the trees at feeding time, some with their babies tucked in their pouches was amazing.

I think this might be meant for Semenggoh, but you should also visit The Great Orangutan Project at Matang!

“2 amazing weeks, wish I could have stayed longer.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 24, 2013

Wow, what an experience. The guys at Matang, and our Guide Alvin made this an unforgetable experience. We spent the first 2 days at Matang Wildlife Park, working there as "Volunteers" and we got to see behind the scenes of the conservation project being undertaken there. It was a real eye opener. The guys there ( Leo, Tash and the team ) have a real hard job to do with very little finances or resources. But they are upbeat and doing a great job. The animals are well cared for, but space is at a premium, hence some of the other reviews of one day visitors thinking the Orangs should be in bigger areas. there is no question that they should. But where? Dominant males cannot live together as there can be only one in an area, as such they will fight and injure each other. So the guys at Matang do the absolute best that they can. We got to see everything, and even got to help out in the quarantine area with some very cheeky maqaques!!. After Matang we visited the Bako national park and then spent 5 nights in the real jungle with a local tribe. This was amazing. We even were lucky enough to come across a wild male Orang eating his breakfast!!! a truly rare and amazing sight. I would recommend anyone to do this tour. It is a real life changing experience. Great work Leo and Tash, keep it up.

Hi Marc,
Thank you for such a great review! We’re glad you had such a good time on the Orangutan and Tribes Voluntour. The team at Matang do an amazing job which wouldn’t be possible without volunteers such as yourself. We’re also all very excited that another group got to see a wild orang, it is a real privilege
