“Feel like home... except at home my internet connection is cheap !”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2012

We stayed at the Hilton Kuching for a week. We really appreciated our stay.
We had 2 connecting rooms at the 8th floor with a terrific view on the Sarawak river. We spent a lot of time looking at sunshines and sunsets from the room.
The rooms were newly decorated and well equipped. It was nice to come back in the room after a day to trudge around Kuching and spend good nights in comfy beds.
We had breakfast at the hotel everyday. The breakfast was generous and excellent.
The staff was very friendly and helpful.
Although small the pool is pleasant and relaxing.
All these commendable are tempered by the exorbitant price of Internet access. The price of a one day access at the Hilton costs a month of access in France (and I have the phone and TV included). There wasn't any free wifi access in the lobby too.
Despite this inconvenience, the Hilton Kuching really worth the stay.

Funny story, while we were at the hotel the Prime Minister of Malaysia came to sleep at the hotel. The red carpet was out and all the staff very caring.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the Sarawak river

Warm greetings from the Hilton Kuching.

We thank you for your favorable feedback following your stay with us and we were delighted to learn that you had and enjoyable and comfortable stay. As regards to internet charges, currently there is a contractual obligation with our vendor in the manner internet is charged, but we recognise the growing demand for a better deal and will address this as soon as the opportunity arises.

My team and I look forward to the opportunity of welcoming you back again soon.

Pros: The hotel staff are very friendly. Rooms are clean and relatively spacious. The breakfast buffet spread is delicious.Must tries are the sarawak laksa and nasi lemak. The hotel map and conceirge is also informative and knowledgeable. The hotel is also centrally located so its close to most of the attractions. We went on Hari Raya Haji and the friendly staff was dressed up in their traditional costumes. It was a welcome change for us to experience the holiday spirit. They also allowed for late check-out to accomodate the timing of our flight which was a very nice gesture.

Cons: There wasn't toothbrush and paste provided. The bath gel and shampoo wasn't replaced daily as well.

All in all, I would give it a five stars holidays.

My husband and I stayed here for 3 night, on the club floor, I would say that we had a comfortable stay, the hotel staff was accommodating, yes note that mostly internet is chargeable which should not be the case, however thanks to my husband being a Hilton Honors member this was then free for us. Room on the club floor had a good view which was facing the river and the grand view of a hall that lights up beautifully at night. I went down to the coffee house for breakfast one morning to look at the variety that they would serve and somehow found the service staff there stuck up, snobbish and did not seem motivated to work, it was not one person but the whole bunch of them. Something that the Hilton management may really want to look into.

Room Tip: Club Floors are good, however they could cost relatively more

The location of this hotel is great not only because it is situated at a river bank where you can get to Kuching Waterfront just in a minute of walk, but also you can just get almost anything (by anything i meant nightlife, 7Eleven, craftsmanship shops, salty terubok, sarawak batik etc etc as long as you call it a local stuff) in Kuching by walking distance.

The room also nicely decorated and bathroom also not bad at all.

The only thing they have to look seriously is a additional fees they charge you if you want to use internet lines in a room. Seriously, nowadays you can get a free internet almost anywhere but this hotel charge you for it.

Apart from that I'm satisfied.

I've been coming to this hotel for years and I appreciate the staff, the location, feeling of the place. They have recently refurbished the rooms (much needed), and the rooms with the river view are terrific, even though the view of the river is blighted by the Dewan, which folks call the "lemon squeezer" - an insult to Sarawakians perpetrated by you know who.

But in this era, where even the cheapest hotels and resthouses offer free internet, it's surprising and annoying that the Hilton charges (a substantial amount) for in-house internet. They have advised me that this is because the internet is provided by an external third party. Also I understand that there are steps to provide this service in-house. That development can't come too soon.

Hilton Kuching is perfectly located - just by the river. Service was very friendly, capable, but very slow. Rooms are comfortable and nicely decorated with local touches. Compared to the other river front business hotels, this is by far the preferable option. I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Kuching if I had the choice.

We stayed in two different rooms at this hotel during our wonderful two week Page and Moy trip to Borneo. Both rooms had an outstanding river view looking across to the pagoda-like parliament building. The rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable although the bathroom in the first of the two rooms was tired, with some fairly nasty grouting.

Very handy for all the restaurants and shops in town. Extremely polite and attentive stuff in reception. I do get irked, though, by hotels that still charge outrageous prices for Internet access, although you can get thirty minutes for free if you take your netbook down to the coffee shop and purchase anything there.

Recommended on balance.
