“Not Bad. Get what you pay for.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2013

Look - My wife and I knew what we were getting ourselves into - peak holiday period in Asia - at what is a cheap and cheerful resort. The staff and management were fantastic - and a real credit to the facility. However, overall - the resort was a little tired, food options by day 3 were repetitive and the karaoke in the main bar/lounge made the whole evening drinks and night cap - a non-event. There was little to do our side the resort - so if you're looking for something to do at night time beside scrabble and uno - this is not the place you are looking for.

I would recommend getting a villa up on the hill away from the activity of the main building - where the pool is less crowded.

Room Tip: A lot of the beach side bungalows have paper thin walls - try to look for a room in the brick struct...

I have to agree with the recent reviews. Yes, the place could do with sprucing up a bit, the food is OK but not great and the hotel is certainly not to the highest international standards (bathroom tiles need re-grouting, some floor tiles need replacing and a few new carpets would be nice - there is an on-going renovation program in place). That being said, however, it is not an expensive hotel and has a number of very good features. Our room was very large and cool, and overlooked the beach. The setting was quite magnificent - a beautiful safe, sandy beach, backed by shady trees with the rain forest as a backdrop. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and getting taxis, shuttles etc. was easy, and the overall facilities are good. The overall setting of the hotel, including the lobby area was extremely pleasant. Local attractions such as the circular rainforest walk in the Permai Rainforest resort (10 mins away), the Sarawak cultural village (5 mins away) and the Santabong river cruise (pick up from the hotel - 15 minute drive) were really excellent. If you are looking for 5 star luxury (with prices to match) then don't come here, but if you want a great beach, lovely staff and a setting backing onto the rainforest at a reasonable price, then the Damai Beach Resort is worth a visit.

Room Tip: Superior Poolside rooms overlook the beach and are within 30m.

Me & my family prefer to be here for a relax vacation as it only took us for half an hour to reach there. We have tried staying in various types of room (it's nice and comfortable) and we normally exercise walking up the stairs to the Hilltop pool-sea view. We can even walk to Damai Central. As to our experience, Damai Beach Resort is still the best place to go for a vacation.

Room Tip: Executive Suite are good for big family.

I had not been here for a couple of years and expected the place to be spruced up a little. It wasn't but still this a good resort, a great location , great staff and good facilities. It does need renovated and the prices should reflect that the resort is a bit tired. Would still recommend if only for the location

I stayed here with my boyfriend for 5 nights at the start of July and after reading all the negative reviews I vowed to write my first review to put the fussy moaners straight!

This is not a 5* luxury resort, neither is the price tag so I don't what half of the negative reviewers were expecting.

This is a nice, quiet ,chilled resort and the perfect place for total relaxation by the beach. We stayed in an executive chalet with sea view, it was right on the beach with an AMAZING view. The chalet was very clean and spacious, the air con was fantastic, there was a huge comfy bed and large flat screen TV. The wireless (chargeable with a prepaid voucher) also reached the chalet which isn't publicised and a great bonus. The beach is secluded and we pretty much had it to ourselves most of the time. The sea is shallow and therefore very warm, so it's ideal for children.

There are two pools and due to the low occupancy of the hotel at the time they were usually empty. The hill top pool is well worth the climb of seemingly 100s of steps, it takes literally a few minutes or you can get driven up in the shuttle bus for free.

The restaurant is ok with a good variety of tasty food but we were a little bored of it by the fifth night. Breakfast was great, with lots of fresh fruit and your typical breakfast buffet items with a made to order eggs and waffle station. There is a place called 'Damai Central' which can be accessed by a very short stroll along the beach ,to the right, or a longer walk out of the complex along the road. Here you will find a very cheap food court, with lots of outlets of local as well as western orientated food, this is where we had lunch most days and the roti is highly recommended! There is a 7-11 and a couple of bars/restaurants, we did try to eat there one night but it was desolated and we didn't fancy eating in an empty restaurant.

The jungle trek is well worth the heat and humidity, there is a 2 hour low level walk which we completed in about 90 minutes or summit trek that takes 6 hours with some rope ladder climbing involved. Long sleeves, a small towel and plenty of water is well recommended!

Sarawak Cultural Village is a ten minute walk from the resort, just opposite Damai Central, it is also well worth a visit and something a bit different.

I would highly recommend this resort to anyone visiting Borneo and flying into Kuching.

Room Tip: Executive beach view chalet is a must.

After accommodation at crowded city Kuala Lampur, we were heading to Kuching and stayed at Damai. What we taken note of this resort was that the atmosphere surround was fantastic including beach, swimming pool and ... to drag us stay back in the resort most of the time whilst we were there.

However, there was little missing understanding regarding communication at front desk and need to be improved. It was just a minor for us but it may cause inconveniently. Overall we were very happy and highly recommended

We stayed at the Executive Suite facing the Beach and what a view it was. The beach is almost all to ourselves as it was not so crowded and probably it was the season where muslim is on a fasting month. The suite is far to spacious for two person.

Choice of foods for breakfast is too few compared to some hotels I have visited in Kuala Lumpur. Almost missed the Omelette as it was served outside.

The hotel is also walking distance to the Sarawak Culture Village and also to Mt. Santubong where one can enjoy jungle trekking or climb the Mt. Santubong.

One comment I want to made is the hotel staff, security staff and the drivers at the entrance of the Hotel lobby. When I ask them about the rates for the jungle trekking at Mt. Santubong I got all information wrong and imagine how fool I look when we argue with the lady at the entrance of the Mt. Santubong on the costing. Can whoever is in charge of he Hotel please ensure that the hotel staff are updated with the latest information? The lady at the entrance of the Mt. Santubong was also shocked with the lack of correct information given to the hotel guests.
