My family with 3 kids, ages 7-12 years old, took this cruise on the recommendation of a friend who had enjoyed it with her preschoolers. They picked us up from our hotel in a minivan and only had to stop at 2 other hotels to pick up others. The jetty was an easy 40 minute drive away from downtown Kuching. Since this isn't a zoo/aquarium with caged animals, they cannot guarantee that animals will just be sitting out on display, but they do their best to track them down (not just randomly cruising along with fingers crossed). The Irrawaddy river dolphins are best seen near fishing boats, so we would cut the engines whenever we got near fishermen. We ended up seeing many dolphins this way. To find the proboscis monkeys, we went close to the shore and looked for movement in the tree branches. We did see a few monkeys from afar, but they were spooked and fled inland before we could get a good look at their noses. The crocodiles were the only animals we didn't have luck with, although my daughter claims she saw one. We stopped by a Malay fishing village for a short stroll and then boarded the boat to look for more crocodiles by shining a strong light beam over the water, looking for their crocodile eyes to reflect it back. The tour ended with a quiet float next to some trees filled with fireflies. Snacks, drinks, and cool towels were handed out during our cruise, and the guide was very knowledgable about the animals. When we returned to the vans, we were immediately driven back to our hotel with no problems.
