I have been there a few times and I must say this is a place where you can ensure quality in their food. I have a great variety of their dishes but not all yet and they are really good. The smoked duck is a dish you must not miss when you are there and also the the Chinese Broccoli (Kai lan) is another dish that one must not miss. There are so many good dishes to try out and the list can just go on so, it is best you try some of them yourself.
This restaurant also serves ala-carte menu or lunch packages. They do serve some foochow dishes too such as chao chai bee hoon which is very good. Unlike the normal chao cai bee hoon that you get in the normal coffee shop the ones served in ATR has a spicy twist to it which enhance the taste of this dish and there are lots of chao chai (preserved vegetables) in it which ensures that this dish is flavorful.
ATR also serves Laksa, yes Sarawak Laksa, now this is one dish that you must not miss. I mean Laksa is abundant in Kuching. Everywhere you go there are stalls selling Laksa. But the Laksa here is one of the few places that serves really good Laksa. The gravy of the Laksa is very important. A lot of places the Laksa gravy is just a disaster as they are over diluted, but rest assured the ones served at ATR the gravy is thick and aromatic and chillies are added for the extra 'oomph', The prawns given are big (yes it is not shrimp, real prawns unlike some served outside) and more importantly fresh. The laksa is served with fresh cucumber and belacan (Spicy shrimp paste).
ATR also serve good Thai food. The Tom yum is very different from the ones you get outside so it is a must try. But I myself is not really a fan of Tom Yum so I'll leave the judging to the rest.
Service: Staffs are friendly efficient. Friendly smiles awaits you.
Pricing: It can be a bit pricey for some of the food but I think it is money that is well spent on considering the quality that you get. But the lunch packages are really value for money as it comes with drinks and a big portion too.
Conclusion: So if you are pondering on where to dine in Kuching. I do recommend Absolute Tribal Restaurant for you to dine in. Nice atmosphere and good food.
