“Refreshing Upmarket Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2010

Stayed there for a night in Kuching. Ammenities were nearby as it is located above a shopping centre. A new hotel with modern new facilities that were still sparkling new. Parquet wooden flooring of my room and big full size windows overlooking the city. Bathroom was superb with a bathtub and still new. The shopping centre below is considerably large but only a few shops were open, hence space resources not really used. Theres a fast food outlet Marrybrown as well as nearby to the Kuching riverfront. Around 5 mins walking distance to the river walks. The famous 'Taman Kereta' seafood hawker stalls are also a stone's throw away. Overall im really satisfied with my stay as the hotel is still new so the facilities are still well-maintained with clean refreshing look and little to complaint about. Even the lobby of the hotel is large and there are internet pcs (around 4 to 5 ) at the lobby. I will definitely stay in the hotel again for my future trips to Kuching.

We have stayed in many hotels in Kuching before and Pullman Kuching is the best one we have ever stayed in so far. We couldn't believe how good the hotel is considering that we didn't have to pay too much for a room. The room is incredibly spacious with a big comfortable bed. The bathroom is the most spacious we have seen so far, with a big bathtub and a separate shower area. I especially loved the big bathroom counter. Ample space to store our toiletries! The staff were all extremely polite and friendly. We were greeted by every staff whenever we walked past one. The kids loved the pool area and we loved lounging by the pool. We only had the chance to sample some cookies and pastries from the in-house cafe, Cafe Chat and we were blown away by the delicious baked goodies. I swear they were as good as (if not better than) the ones we had in Paris.

The only grouch I have about this hotel is that it doesn't offer free internet or wifi. We like to stay connected whenever we are travelling so that's a very important point for us. If that could be offered in the future, it'd make this hotel the perfect hotel for us. Anyway, this hotel will still be the hotel of choice for us whenever we visit Kuching. We can't wait to be back soon!

We stayed at the hotel for 3 nights and had two interconnecting room. First the good points: Rooms are well kept with new fixtures. Nice bath tubs and big spacious rooms. Expected amenities for a 4 star hotel including breakfast. Location is quite central since Kuching is a small town, accessible to attractions by walking.

Bad points:
1) Did not meet our request for a high floor away from lift though it was booked a month before- we were given a low floor even though we requested a high floor away from lift. Some excuse that they do not have interconnecting rooms on higher floors.
2) Rooms have not being occupied for a long time: since we are on the 5th floor of a 20plus storey hotel, we were the only occupants of that floor- hence the floor and glasses were dusty
3) Cups and mugs not cleaned: covered with coffee stains.
4) We inherited a room with lots of problems and another room with minimal problems: problem room have power failure three times within the day which spoiled the children's tub bath fun time. Next, the safe did not work hence had to use the safe in the next room, coffee mugs completely stained not with coffee but insect body, you won't expect this from a world class hotel. Papers delivered on first day: 2 papers from the same publication but none subsequent days. Go figure

Would i stay here again? depends on which room i get. Guess maintenance needs to be improved.

This is an excellent hotel - I'll break it down:

1. location - just up the street from Hilton hotel - annexed to the Hills Shopping Mall - and a 3 minutes walk away from Top Spot, the local seafood joint on top of a parking lot;

2. lobby - huge and spacious with natural light pouring in from high-up-in-the-clouds glass ceiling;

3. room - the superior room: spacious, with laminated floorings (and not carpets) - clean, spotless with a great comfortable bed;

4. bathroom - clean and spacious with a great shower head;

5. facilities - free internet via wi-fi at the lobby - great spacious gym with treadmills overlooking the city skyline;

6. restaurants - the main eating restaurant has typical big city prices i.e. its kinda pricey, but, food's good and the service is pretty decent so its okay.

7. service - the person who attended to us, a Mr. Alexander was very professional and friendly providing us with information we asked.

8. rates - this is the best part - its cheaper than the Hilton, but I preferred this one.

Conclusion - the hotel is about a year old, and that can explain its newness. But it is a convenient place to stay with great service and excellent facilities and rooms.

Highly recommended.

For the rate charges, everything was worthwhile but there is still room for improvement in the areas of service and F&B. the breakfast spread was typical of a hotel of this class but it really lacked 'wow'. food was good but not great. I dinned in the Chinese restaurant and even though the ambience was good, the food was lacking. Not that the taste was bad but just lacking of the x factor to make this a real award winning hotel.
