Brass Monkey have clearly found a winning formula and are sticking too it. They have a limited menu (3 starters, 3 deserts, a dozen main courses) that they do REALLY well rather than the ubiquitous fare of places like Upperstar or Secret Recipe. The garden salad was big enough for two, the pasta dishes were hearty and the steak was perfect. Interestingly, the kids meal seemed to be identical to the adult version, just served on a smaller plate.
The service was very good. If anything, it was a little too efficient, there was barely time to sip our drinks between starter and main course, and we'd finished eating before we'd finished the first round of drinks. However, we were there quite late and still had to wait for a table, so keeping things flowing is probably quite important.
The owner was in the restaurant and is clearly the driving force behind the good food and great service. He was pleasantly attentive, sending over extra desserts, asking if we wanted coffee... and the friendly atmosphere seemed to emanate entirely from him.
For KK (in my opinion) this was quite pricey. The set meal (starter, main, dessert) was good value at RM38. The pasta was RM22. The steak RM45. The lobster RM90. The drinks were much more reasonable, RM12.50 for cocktails. BUT for a nice meal, outside of a hotel, this would be perfect.
