“Beach hotel near Kota Kinabalu”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2011

Small bech hotel, nice rooms, swimming pool just few steps. Helpful and friendly staff. Cheap airport transfer. Meal little bit expensive. The sea and beach dirty. Thea sea is not for swimming - 1/2 meter of water about 2 km from the rim. Journey time to the airport 20 min. at to the city centre about 30 min. No shop nearby, just 1 restaurant.

Room rate is 4star rate but the breakfast is lousy and the resort compound is very small. not much choice. Some of the guests even have to wait more than 20mins due the foods is not enough to serve. even though is buffet style.

Never come back again. Not recommend

Room Tip: if you are no choice, you can try to stay at the new room ocean view.

Don't be surprised if you see a couple of sheep walking around when you arrive - this is a quirky but atypical view!

We went here with inlaws who have been here many times before and were not disappointed. It is outside the city of KK itself but takes only 15 minutes to get in by car.

At the resort itself the accommodation is basic but clean, supplemented by a pool and excellent restaraunt and bar where we ate 2 out of the 3 nights we were there. There is also a local beach where you can get access to boats for snorkelling etc - which the hotel will be happy to arrange for you.

Staff are friendly, happy, and helpful - would happily go back.

What was obviously once a very nice resort is now tired and run down. Apart from a need for general maintenance, two of the four lights in our room didn't work. The problem was attended to very quickly, but one light needed the whole fitting replaced and the other continued to work intermittently during our stay. Airconditioner blew directly on the bed and was very noisy.
The sunset view from the beach were lovely, but the water itself was very murky with lots of rubbish floating in it - not good for swimming.
The resident sheep also need maintenance - ie shearing :-)
BBQ dinner on the beach is good.
Stayed as part of a tour so can't comment on price
I'm sure there are better places to stay.

When I was researching a quiet place to stay in Kota Kinabalu this seemed perfect as some of the websites said it was really close to the airport and the Lok Kawi Animal Park, so we were surprised to be charged 50 ringgits for the taxi and have it take half an hour. However the whole resort was lovely, a nice clean spacious room, good restaurant, helpful staff and a really good library. It was perfect for just relaxing and the staff organised a trip for us. Actually we wanted to see the giant flower but they phoned around and found that none were flowering at that time so we didn't waste our time with that and did something else instead

They also arranged transport to the bus station for us (and our bus tickets) and when traffic was worse than expected they phoned ahead so that when we arrived, just as the bus was about to pull out, we had a welcome committee who hustled me to the ticket office and my partner to the bus so we managed not to miss it

So my only criticism is that if you stay here you need to be aware that it will be quite expensive if you want to get taxis anywhere, which we did as we were on a tight timeframe

Stayed 6 nights with our 2 kids aged 9 & 11.
We had a new ocean view chalet, it was gorgeous. Views over south China Seas out to the Islands. Restaurant was adequate for breakfast - toast, eggs, home made sausages, cereal, juice fruit etc. Had lunch there a few times, always good and quick.
Staff are so helpful and friendly. Betty who does the tour bookings couldn't do enough for us. Truly went out of her way to assist.
Prepared early breakfasts and lunches when we were going out on early tours.
Linen clean, bathrooms and chalet cleaned efficiently daily. Good clean pools. its not like a big hotel such as the Le Meridien, we stayed there as well. Much more intimate but not overly familiar feel to the resort. Beach isn't good but we visited the islands off the coast and they were just as bad. South China Sea is quite polluted so don't expect pristine reef.
Bus stopinto to town was only about 25mtres down the road. Taxi home is only 40RM.

Room Tip: Ask for the new chalets with the ocean view the others are a bit sad and sorry now.

Their website (quite appealing though) and their transportation van says "a great place to relax". Our experience as a joung couple looking for rest before returning to Europe was just the opposite!
The location of the hotel is great and the view that you have in the morning and in the evening is fantastic! BUT:

- 3 mornings out of 5, we were waken up by their transformation works. Workers started hamering around 6:15AM, which, to me, is not commercial at all!
- The two other mornings, we were waken up around 7:00AM by a group of 15 Australian students, shouting all over the place and jumping in both swimming pools. I believe that this is not a place for a group of students. In addition to this, we couldn't use the swimming pools when the students were there.
- We tested 3 different rooms, all of them invaded by mosquitos, spiders and ants. Their newest rooms (sea view) were much cleaner and better equipped.
- The furniture and equipment is getting really old! Extremely noisy A/C and fridge in the old chalets (quieter in the new ones)
- Although it is funny to see two sheeps walking around (among with the cats and dogs), the smell is quite "intense" when you enter the place.
- The only very good point goes to the staff! Very nice and helpful people!
- The restaurant is warm and cauzy but quite expensive compared to the quality of the dishes. We have eaten in several local restaurants in KK and around (including the BBQ at the Philipino market), and it was much better, and much cheaper!

I believe that this place could be really a fantastic resort, but the management should take some critical decisions and think about the satisfaction of their custommers first! There is definitely a real lack of commercial management and custommer satisfaction support.
