“Outstanding view of the harbour”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

We chose the Méridien because we wanted a good hotel at the end of a long trip through Malaysia, and because the pricing on Expedia was really good. We stayed three different times recently.

The hotel is located across the road from the night market, which is one of the best things about KK. We had a marvellous view of it, and of the boats in the harbour.

This was the only "western" hotel we stayed in during our trip, and it had the advantages and disadvantages of being a high end chain hotel. The first room we stayed in was so large, it was out of proportion to the furnishing and had far too much empty space. We enjoyed the more normal size rooms we had on other visits - though even these were very large. The hotel itself has a large number of rooms and is very busy. Check-in, however, was excruciatingly slow, as if they really did not understand how to find an empty room and check us in to it - and this was not just on one visit. While insisting they would bring up our luggage (something we could have done ourselves) they were also very slow in doing so, as if they had forgotten about it, until I phoned to remind them.

We did not eat in the hotel restaurant as the prices were high compared to local places, and in fact it was a great treat to just cross the road and eat in the night market, particularly when we had barbecued fish.

However the outstanding view out over the harbour and Gaya Island made up for any small shortcomings and we would happily go back.

Room Tip: The view of the ocean, the islands, the harbour and the night market is outstanding, so pay for an o...

This is what you expect from a 5 star hotel. Especially the service, it's a little bit expensive compare to other hotels but far more luxerious. Nice swimming pool on the second floor and very spacious rooms. The rooms are cool even without the airco!

Special thanks to mister Suresh Ramasamy for his excellent service and information. Even though its busy he takes the time for his clients.

a lot of hotel employees can learn from Suresh!

many thanks and hope to come here again one day!

Mariam and Iliass from Morocco!

We only were spending 2 nights in KK, so Le Meridien was perfect. Very good location next to the market, the excellent seafood/fish hawkers stands, Starbucks. The fish market is a must; the food we had there was amazing.
The breakfast buffet was quite impressive with a huge variety of food. Coffee was very good.
Fun ambiance music (their playlist for elevator and hallway music was done by a famous DJ); original idea.
The room was OK, nothing extraordinary, but fine for our purpose.

I am astonished that Starwood Hotels would allow this property to call itself a Le Meridien. Just about everything in the hotel was not to the standards that one expects when staying at a Le Meridien, from the mold on the bathroom ceilings to the barely 7 foot tall ceilings to the dampness of the hallways. There was simply nothing about the functionality or the comfort of the hotel that would suggest that this is a luxury hotel.

What is even more astonishing is that the staff has said that the property has only been operational for 7 years. If someone hadn't told me that, I would've guessed that it hadn't been renovated in over 30 years. I was also informed that the hotel is planning a renovation for next year. My suggestion is that renovation today.

If you find yourself needing to stay in Kota Kinabalu itself as we did for one night, this is a good spot to find yourself in.

The hotel is well located opposite the KK market which is always interesting to visit, and just down the road from two good shopping centers if you need to stock up on basic supplies etc.

We booked in to this hotel as a stop gap between two resorts we had booked over Chinese New Year.

On arrival at the hotel, we discovered that we had stupidly booked for the same date but a month earlier. Ever done that? We had also paid for the Ocean-facing King Room too! But, not being the fault of the hotel, we put ourselves at their mercy to see if they would accommodate us that one night which was probably the most busy night of the entire Chinese New Year period. They were very accommodating, and while we had to pay for our room all over again, we actually ended up with a suite for the same price and a very comfortable stay for the night.

We enjoyed a great dinner in the Flame Restaurant and a super breakfast the next day before we left for our next destination.

We also visited the pool for a dip the afternoon we arrived.

Tea, coffee and complimentary water were offered in the rooms. You can get free wifi in the lobby or a pay as you go service in the rooms.

It is not a hotel I would recommend you visit if you want to enjoy a holiday in Kota Kinabalu. There are other resorts with a great deal to offer in that regard, but it is a good hotel for functional purposes i.e business or stop overs to the airport or as was the case in our situation, where you are moving from one resort to the other in the area and find yourself in need of a place for a night or two.

Room Tip: Definitely anything sea facing!

I choice this 5 star hotel as our last night in Kota Kinabalu (deluxe sea view) , however my experience here is not good, it's not worth its price and its luxury!

1.After entering the room, I cannot find the number of front office when I need to consultant sth. Then I walk out and find housekeeping to get the number! Can u believe that? Most of hotels past their service number on the telephone.

2.The room I taken should be prepared for two persons' living, however there was only 1 toothbrush and I also need to walk out and find the housekeeping.

3.It's shower sucks! The water not hot, bathtub also not easy to draw off the water.

4.Wifi sucks! I don't know whether all 5star hotels not provide free wifi in the room, however it's terrible that you cannot use wifi in the room. When I want to share sth with my friends, I need to down stairs to the lobby, that's stupid!

There is noway to choice this hotel again, lots of boutique hotels better than this 5-star hotel.

Room Tip: It's not necessary to choice a sea view room, 'cause the sea in the view is not good. If you...
