“Great experience for the kids”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 19, 2014

The kids particularly enjoyed the experience of seeing the Orangutans in this jungle location for the first time. Having spent time at another Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre in Indonesian Borneo, we were surprised that there were only 5 Orangutans - somehow, we were expecting to see more. The staff are very passionate about "saving the orang-utan" and have good knowledge to share with the guests. The viewing station was a little crowded, but you could still see the Orangutans quite clearly. The staff don't allow you to get too close to the Orangutans due to spreading of disease, so this is a good thing. After the feeding session, we continued on to do the rainforest canopy walk where you cross a long bridge. The views from up there were amazing.

“expensive and over hyped”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2014

2 parties daily leads to overcrowding
very limited views of the orang utans
55 ringits per adult is more expensive than a visit to some zoos
not suitable for young children due to overcrowding on the veiwing platforms

“Great initiative!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2014

This is a wonderful initiative by a huge resort like Shangri-La. There are 2 viewings a day of the rescued orang-utans and you can see they are very well taken care off. Once they reach maturity, they are then brought to the national park. The park ranger was also very knowledgeable with a great sense of humor,

“A worthwhile wildlife jungle experience.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 8, 2014

I booked our family of 5 on the 10am visit. Our bus arrived a little late so we missed half of the introduction DVD, but my youngest was a little bored by it anyway, although I found it interesting to learn about the the background. We then followed a ranger (with about 50 others) to the viewing platform. We enjoyed watching the 3 year old orangutan, and a 5 year old one turned up later too. Took plenty of photos. After around 20 minutes we were ready to leave. We left unaccompanied, and noticed the sign for the canopy walk, so we explored the trail on our own. It was fantastic...on the canopy walkway high up in the trees you got a fabulous view of the jungle. We only realised later that we weren't supposed to take this detour, but I would recommend both the orangutan visit and the canopy walk at the Rasa Ria. We spent the rest of the day enjoying the wonderful facilities of the resort.
