We arrived in Kundasang in the evening, it was raining heavily and we didn't have any accomodation booked. This was the first place we walked past. The double room was pricey for backpackers (190r) but was beautifully furnished and had an incredible view of mount kinabalu. Complimentary tea, coffee and snacks in the room including home baked cookies. Sadly the service was terrible, we weren't even shown to our room, just given the key and pointed out the door. The staff spoke little English and couldn't do simple maths when adding our room fee and key deposit leaving us questioning the price demanded. The cafe attached had a limited menu, small portions and odd breakfast menu (especially when you are looking for nourishing food before a mountain climb). When we asked about transport to the park headquarters (10mins drive) the staff gave us different views - one said no transport, another said 30ringit leaving us a bit stressed the morning of the climb. Eventually they offered us a ride and did not charge for it. The room was very comfortable but noisy all night (wooden floors and thin walls) so we got a poor sleep before our mountain ascent.
