“nice holiday”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 19, 2013

We stay in club floor during aug summer holiday.Room is spacious with a living room.
Our room is facing the golf course .hotel is only 15 mins from airport.
Only bad thing is everytime you need to go out of the hotel you will need a cab .
Club floor has magnificuent sea view & serves ala carte breakfast which is made to order.
You can enjoy the facilities within the few properties of sutera.
I enjoy the nice sunset view @our magellan sutera resort.
You can easily get to the 3 islands ard 15 mins from the hotel.

A bit expensive but worth it. The rooms are spacious, complete amenities, and excellent breakfast buffet. It was hard to get out of bed since it was so comfortable. When I finally did and had breakfast, it was difficult to stop eating. The food was superb. There are four swimming pools to choose from. I preferred to swim in the Olympic size pool for exercise and the one with the slides for play. The gym equipment seems brand new. The hotel also has a shuttle that goes into the city even hour. Shopping and food trips won't be a hassle. Overall it was a memorable and comfortable stay.

Huge spacious lobby. Room is big enough, with sea view. Breakfast spread is good. Nice view overlooking the pool. Transport to town is convenient with shuttle bus, but not much to shop there. The trip to Manukan island was a bit disappointing as it has become very commercialize with too many people. Over-crowded.

Went with the family and stayed in Sutera Pacific for 6 days in Dec 13: - I did not expect much from the resort but was pleasantly surprise by the hoispitality and welcome by the hotel staff. A rather efficient check in process and we were in the family room in just 15 min.

the family room is big and bright with a king size bed and 2 single beds - ideal for any family travel. The bathroom is big and really come in handy when you have 3 kids rushing to bath and poo at certain times. The house keeping was efficient; the room were clean and tidy; the in- room amenities were generous. I would recommend the family room anytime for family stay.

Room Tip: a smaller number number gives a better view of the resort...

Stayed in Pacific for 4 days in Dec:

- less people than expected, little/no tour but most in friends and family.
- quick check-in though still need to wait until 1:15pm to get the room, and got "late" check-out at 1pm
- Bell boy will help to take your luggage when arrived, but bear in mind to wait for him to get the receipt card before moving to the check-in corner.
- Got 10th floor sea view (not club house), really nice view, I took picture every morning
- The room is quiet, I did not hear noise from neighbour room nor corridor

- Nice pool in Pacific, not many people/kids probably due to "off-peak" period. Sunset view is fantastic. Magellan pool area is much smaller.
- Breakfast is good, not too crowd if you come before 8pm. No need to wait for omelette (cos three cooks handle this) but need to wait for noodle cook who disappear after 9am and thus no more noodle available.
- Other food is expensive as expected, the best-buy is sandwich (RM10++) in the lobby cafe. BTW, live band at night (I heard 10pm session) is also good
- Shuttle bus is still once an hour, and surprisingly no bus out at 2pm and 7pm which are supposed to be busy hour, maybe they are lunch/dinner hour for driver. The improvement is bigger bus w/ ~50 seats now that no need to queue to get a seat during my stay (again, the benefit to travel in off-peak period). Most of the time it is on time except traffic jam. One time the 5:30pm-bus appeared in KK Plaza only at 5:45pm which I almost think we missed the bus and need to take teksi/taxi back.

- Try Sea Quest tour ferry three times, two in the morning and once in the afternoon, Convenient though a little bit expensive, per island RM60 (50 ferry + 10 entrance fee) w/o equipment or RM80 w/ equipment rental. The lesson learnt is you must go in the morning because there are many rubbish in the afternoon, even in the well-known Sapi island.
Most enjoy snorkeling in Mamutik island while Manukan island water is not clear and less fish.

Some not-so-good experience:
- Hair dryer in the bathroom consistantly stop working after blowing for just 1 minute, then you have to wait for few minute before it is cool down and get back to work.
- Air conditioner is bad. It is always too cold whenever I turn it ON (even I turn to 30C), so I have to turn it off whenever I am inside the room and thus get sweat at sleep. Even worst is windows cannot be open that make me no other choice
- Bed is bad, the middle portion lost elastic that has no support at all, see the picture.
- As others said, it is not easy to get Queen size bed but most room got two single beds, so, we put them together as shown in the picture, and be careful of the light above our head.
- Bathroom ventilation is ON only when the bathroom light is ON, so either your sleep with bathroom light ON right on your head (remember bathroom wooden windows are see-through), or have to switch off the ventilation and leave all clothes wet.
- little choice of TV channel, only one for Chinese/Mandarin..
- On day 3 we put "do not disturb" in the morning, then changed it to "make up the room". when we go out at 2pm. When we come back at night, the "make up" sign is on the floor (probably by wind?), and, nobody make up the room. Seems they won't double check the customer need to make up room from time to time.

Overall the service is better than described in other comments in the past, especially those senior staff (man/lady in black suit) service is good/professional.

All in all, if you come during off-peak season, you will enjoy this hotel.

Room Tip: high floor sea view is a must, standard room is good enough

Had a great stay at the Magellan. Easy transport, good food, good price and relaxing.... We had a great view of the ocean. Not much beach but pool area was beautiful. Dinner at Ferdinands(?) was delicious. Boat to Manukan island was very fun. The spa atmosphere was peaceful and indulgent. Will be back again. Much better value for money compared to rasa ria.

Dear L3N4s,

Thank you for sharing your staying experience with us.

Your compliments regarding our facilities and amenities as well as the delicious dinner at Ferdinand's certainly delighted us. Glad you enjoyed the great view of the ocean too. One of the must-do in Sabah is to watch the sunset with a cocktail in hand at our exclusive and private beach either at The Magellan Sutera Resort or The Pacific Sutera Hotel which is within walking distance. Hope you had a chance to do so while you were with us - if not, that calls for a return visit soon!

Best regards,

This is our 2nd stay at Magellan and yes I still loved it. We had an early morning arrival at 7am and were able to check in without charge and also had a late checkout to 2pm for no extra. The pool area is still lovely although this time we mostly used the Country Club pool as it was closer to our room. I like the way the resort wings are spread out and it often felt like we were the only ones on our floor. A few extras have been added since our last stay like the Tapas menu from 4-7pm which matches with the drinks happy hour!. We made this our dinner on the last night and the food was very good and value for money, wished we had done it earlier. Nice treats around the pool like fruit kebabs and frozen lemon drinks. The staff are always friendly and helpfull. When I wasn't feeling well 1 night the staff at the Italian restaurant (sorry forgotten the name) realised my husband was on his own and advised him to let them know if I needed anything. It is an easy shuttle trip in to the main city although if they could solve the traffic problem that would be a miracle indeed. I would still stay here again and have recommended it to others. Thanks again to all the staff.
