“Fantastic and comfortable hotel for a family vacation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2013

The stay at this hotel was pleasant and relaxing even though the hotel was almost full. Even though the decor in the room looked dated especially with the green carpet it was very well maintained and having a flat screen TV did help make the room look more modern. The channels that were available were dismal. Internet connectivity was excellent even though the occupation was high during my stay.

The air conditioning was also cold enough which as a huge plus for me but the water pressure for the shower in the bathroom could use a little boost.

The service staff were polite and smiling all the time which made stay more pleasant. The swimming pool was quite well designed to handle many guests at one time but don't expect to get any laps in while you are there. There was a small "beach" which was not worth mentioning about. Just make your way to the off shore marine park for a much better experience.

Breakfast is average but good enough to get you through the morning. The hotel is also conveniently located 10 minutes from the airport and 15 minutes from the city depending on traffic.

Just got back from The Pacific Sutera with wonderful reviews to pen down. The frontal facade of the hotel as well as the back may not look as sharp and crisp, but bear no grudges against this wonderful hotel as it is strategically situated to face the incoming magnificent sunset. The namesake derives from what requires little explanation. The views of the hotel rooms are divided into the golf course view and the harbour view, depending on your preferences. Either way, both offers a calm and serene feel. Check ins and outs are good, though they are not designed to handle loads of customers at one go as there are only 3-4 counters available there in the reception area.

Shuttle buses both within the Sutera Harbour Resort and another one to the town centre are provided - the former, free of charge and runs up till 1 AM while the latter costs RM 3 and runs up till 9 PM. Pickups from locations back to the hotel depends on seat availability and the bus would stop at the Magellan Sutera, Centre Point Sabah, Wisma Merdeka and KK Plaza. You will get the schedule on checking in. Taxi prices are fixed without any meter as stipulated in the notice board by the concierge. Negotiate with the drivers at your own expense if you would like the meter used.

Staffs are helpful and pleasant, though much could still be done with regards to their friendliness. The room was clean, neat and tidy with a cozy backdrop. I had one that faces the harbour and it was one that greeted me with a clear spectacular blue-ish view right on early in the morning. Toilets and bathrooms are well-kept. Beds were comfortable, walls were thick enough to prevent noises from the adjacent rooms with kids though it doesn't totally eliminate noises from the walkway outside. Most needed amenities are available in the room. Swimming pool's great though not designed for extensive usage, rather it appeals more towards entertainment purposes. Either way, I find no fault with it. Who could have ask for more when there is a pool bar? Had breakfast and two lunches at the Cafe Boleh and it was delicious. Though variety is not expansive, they make do with what they have and the cuisine cooked up was remarkable. Desserts were great and service was fast.

Some minor hiccups that I had but solved amiably was the sudden occurrence of the faulty key cards to the room. They couldn't scan me in all of a sudden, but was resolved immediately at the reception counter. Another problem was with the toilet flush that appears to be faulty too. The water kept refilling into the toilet bowl from the water pipe as there was a minor leak from within the opening that connects the water tank and the toilet. I had to reattach the lid (which was connected to the flusher by a mechanism of pulleys) to seal off the leakage until the whole tank is filled up - it subsequently got repaired by itself. Though I still do feel that the management needs to check on the matter with their toilets.

Room Tip: Two options - golf course view or harbour view, select either option based on your preference, thoug...

Ended up in Magellan as Pacific was full, but proved ideal for me. Travelling alone, working.
Friendly staff, a massive lobby and good sized room, with a bath like a small rowing boat. Decorated in 'colonial ' style.
Asked for a sea view, but "non were available", but later saw they were refurbing these.
Buffet breakfast is very good with full range of local and western foods. ( obvs no pork.) and lovely uninterrupted views on the terrace out to sea. Olympic sized pool also various splash pools and slides.
Good free shuttle bus service to town. Used this to get to the jetty and a boat to the Islands, ( realised later I could have done this from the harbour, but hey ho! ) particularly good for snorkelling as it is located on the Pacific rim #exotic fish.
Very comfortable large bed . Noisy one night with a private party upstairs. I was working early the next day so asked the hotel desk to request some quiet , which they did very promptly .
Lots of places to sunbathe, as few of the holiday makers do, preferring to keep to the shade.
Downside is Internet only available in the lobby, though I did get it intermittently on the lower ground floor eating area too . Very slow connection , otherwise ethernet in rooms. No good if you travel light with e.g. iPad.
Upside Happy hour ! Very tasty Singapore Sling @ 24 RM for two . For GBP that's divide by 5 and then again by 2, by my maths that's about £2.50 each?

Huge resort, clean, nice, lovely. There are 5 ( or more?) restaurants to try, among the best in town. We did not try them as we were looking for something more "typical" but have been told that food is really nice. The staff is just perfect, just beware the concierge if you want to catch a taxi, they try to fix a price to town, which is usually 20 RM, but insist that taxidriver switches the taximeter, much cheaper!!!! Really good mai tais at sunset in the fresco bar, they have happy hour: fantastic! The breakfast is a huuuuge buffet, anything you wish is there! Negative spot: far away from city center.

We treated ourselves to one night here on the final day of our 3 week holiday in Borneo and loved it.
The staff were lovely and all smiles, and if you try a few malay words or phrases with them they love it.
Our sea view deluxe king room was wonderful, my only slight criticism is that we couldn't actually see the ocean, as we were on the 3rd floor so only had the garden and some pool to look at. Which isn't a bad thing.
The pool, lounge and pool bar are great with delicious cocktails for happy hour.
The high tea in the lobby was great also.
Breakfast buffet is MORE than plentiful with a vast array of options and it's all tasty.
We had sunset drinks (again happy hour with 2 for 1) at Al'fresco watching the incredible sunset, and loved it so much we stayed for dinner. The kebabs/skewers are delicious, and the 3 piece band - Hinava - are Awesome!!
All in all, this is a lovely place to stay. But, it is full of mostly Chinese groups and families who were generally quiet loud, generally not polite (especially to the Sutera staff), and generally don't tend to control their kids - especially when they are jumping off the pool bar stools & splashing you when you're trying to enjoy your cocktail. If you're looking for a quiet honeymoon style holiday I probably wouldn't recommend here, maybe the Magellan part would be better.

Through every window is an amazing view - the South China sea, marina, swimming pool, golf course, etc. The Pacific Sutera looks more of a business hotel than a resort from the outside but inside its 5 star luxury and beauty is evident. There is a frequent shuttle service between the 2 hotels, enabling guests to enjoy the many facilities.
The staff are attentive and efficient and nothing is too much trouble. There are a variety of restaurants catering for all tastes, poolside bar and restaurant, substantial gym facilities, a bowling alley and Mandara spa pampering at both hotels.
My sisters and I had a fabulous time! From registration to checking out - it was easy, smooth and relaxing. We would definitely go back there next time we are in KK!

Currently staying at the Magellan Sutera in Club room which has a view across the marina. It looks like a highrise in Sydney! The Magellan is quite different construction with an entry foyer thats well 'grand' to say the least. Club rooms are spacious with king sized beds though the mattresses are hard as sleeping on the floor. The hotel provided a cushioned overlay which helped. This was the only problem with the room. Its also worth a stay in the Club rooms as each afternoon there is canapés and drinks served in the restaurant area from 5.30 pm till 7pm just in time to watch the spectacular sunsets. Food at the Al Fresco restaurant not too bad and reasonable prices. If you want something special try Ferdinands Restaurant, excellent food and wine and the service impeccable.
