The temple is a must see if you visit Penang. The walk up is through market stalls selling the usual array of tourist tat but the temple itself is stunning. We spent hours here just wandering around soaking up the art, architecture and ambience. The walk to the top of the minarette is well worth the time for the view.
Only slight dissapointment is that you have to virtually leave the temple to walk up to the main statue. That said you can catch a cable car if you don't fancy the 200 steps.
