“Didn't Want To Leave”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 26, 2013

My husband and I have just returned today from a holiday in Penang, and the jewel in the crown was our last 3 nights which were spent at Seven Terraces.
We can only repeat what everyone else who has stayed there has said, as it is just the most beautiful place.
There has been so much thought that has gone in to the decorating of the rooms and public areas. The hand made floor tiles, the superb china on display, the amazing furniture and the wood detailing. In fact, every little nut and bolt has been added with love.
The rooms are huge. The staff are exceptional. The food for breakfast, and especially dinner was memorable. The afternoon tea served to guests each afternoon by the pool is just another added touch.
The position of the hotel is very central, and the staff will go out of their way to help you with ideas of what to see and do.
It was like staying with a loving family, and I miss them already.
If you are visiting Georgetown, do yourself a favour and stay at the Seven Terraces, and take your camera for the memories.

We went to Penang in Spetember to celebrate our anniversary. So i deceded to go to this place as it was rated as the best in Georgetown.

It was not hard to see why. We love this place. The room was spacious and comfortable. We thought the service was pretty good too. The place itself was very beautiful - being a renovated heritage house. It was done very tastefully.

Tea was served every evening and it was delicious. There is a small pool there which we enjoyed using it once during our stay.

There are however 2 reasons why i did not rate this place as "excellent". The first was the toilet/bathroom. It was huge and spacious. But the rainshower was right in the centre of the bathroom. The water did not drain very well. And it did take a while to dry up after a shower. So if we wanted to use the WC or the wash basin, we will have to walk on the wet floor.

The second reason was that even though i mentioned to them that i was going there to celebrate my anniversary, the hotel did not do anything special for us. While some people may think that i may be asking too much, i would humbly beg to differ. We have stayed in numerous hotels to celebrate our anniversary or my wife's birthday - and the hotels have always made it a point to do something special - even if it is a small gesture like leaving some flowers for my wife or giving us a cake.

Anyway, it did not spoil our stay there. I will still highly recommend this place if it is within your budget and especially if you are from out of Malaysia as it gives you a very special experience to stay in a heritage house like this.

An oasis of calm, order and beauty in the midst of George Town's fascinating assault on the senses. Ewan, the general manager, has the skill to make every guest feel special, and runs a fantastically attentive, pleasant and helpful staff: your wish is their command! The hotel itself is beautifully styled - can I call it peranakan Chinese minimalist?! The pool is attractive and perfect for a cooling dip. Foot/body massage is available. Room comfortable and well furnished; vast wet room with a wonderful rain shower; food brilliant including ample breakfasts, delicious single plate meals to order throughout the day, and interesting and delicious fusion menu in the restaurant served to the charming background accompaniment of a pianist. We felt cared for to the point of indulgence and have rarely been so rested and relaxed. All in all: a joy!

Room Tip: We had one of the 2 storey rooms on the Stewart Lane side - weren't aware of any street noise t...

I stayed at the hotel with my mum and my sister's family. Upon arrival, we were given a room with a narrow stairs leading to the bedroom. As we were worried for my mum for climbing the stairs in the middle of the night should she need to use the bathroom, the GM, Ewan, arranged for 2 single beds to be set up for us in the living area. It was a great gesture with no extra charge. The housekeeping team moved in swiftly and within minutes, we have 2 cozy beds!

Faizal, the friendly front desk personnel, chatted with us whenever he has the time. He is like an old friend and we could chat about anything under the sun.

Overall, it was a great stay. The envrionment is so open yet we felt so secure. It really makes us feel like we are staying over at a friend's house.

Hope to see you soon, my 'friend'!

this anecdote sums up our stay here: we had a meeting outside, the hotel had ordered a taxi for us, but due to the traffic, the taxi was late, and we would have been late for our appointment - Ewan, the GM insisted on driving us in his (seriously cool, limited edition Myvi) car to our appointment! the welcome, service and hospitality throughout our stay was so genuine, and unaffected..

Details: location is superb - we could walk to our favourite nasi kandar/thosai/vegetarian joints in minutes

Rooms are very comfortable - massive bathrooms..great wifi

Minor grouses: 1) the bedroom needs night curtains - the day curtains are not sufficient to keep the light out and if you're a light sleeper (as my wife) is, then its difficult to get to sleep; 2) suites of this size should really have a double washbasin; 3) seriously fresh orange juice for breakfast, but the overall quality of the breakfast doesn't match the level of execution that we experienced for dinner

stunning ambience

From the moment we checked in till we checked out, we were majorly impressed with the fine details of this residence, the thought and planning that went into making this place a GREAT place to stay. The team of staff was super attentive. When I returned from an outing, the staff checked if I had some Nyonya kueh which they served for afternoon tea. When I answered in the negative, he went and brought me a few pieces even though it was past the tea time period. When my friend returned from her outing and sat by the pool, they immediately brought her a glass of water and asked if she would like some coffee or tea. This is the quality of service reflective of a five star hotel. Of course room rate was on the high side but it was worth every cent of it!

The room was spacious. My only two feedback are the bathroom is mainly wet after a shower and there is no work desk. Of course there is a toilet on the mezzanine level but that requires a climb up a flight of steps.

The location is very central. Adjacent to the Kuan Yin temple, within walking distance to my favorite nasi kandar stall, china house etc

If you only want to take one holiday or stay in one place in your life, choose the Seven Terraces! This place is unique. Restored from a row of early 20th century merchants' houses (have a look at the 'before' pictures) that were dilapidated and decaying, the owners took 3.5 years to create this oasis of calm and luxury while remaining faithful to a bygone era. The place is beautiful. The 18 rooms are on two storeys overlooking a central courtyard complete with frangipani tree and have been furnished with Chinese antiques, from the beds to the cupboards. Each piece has clearly been precisely chosen and add to the understated opulence of the place. But that is also its key as, even though you are staying in such luxurious and beautiful (they don't always go hand in hand) surroundings, the ambience and service is understated and unobtrusive. What we loved was the informality of the place - you were encouraged to go barefoot if you wished, and there was no dress code. Staff were incredibly attentive but almost without you noticing - they anticipated what you wanted before you did. As soon as he sat (in the beautiful cane chairs) by the pool, someone would appear with a glass of iced water with lemon or, as they came to know our tastes - hot water and ginger. Afternoon teas are complementary and, although we stayed there nine nights, we never had the same thing on any day - we always had local delicacies served. Staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. It really was like being at home - if your home was that luxurious and you had staff on hand!!!! We were so lucky as well as halfway through our stay they asked if we wished to be upgraded to their two-bedroomed apartment as there were three of us occupying two suites. What an amazing place! With two bathrooms, three loos and two terraces, it took the luxury to a different level. Thank you so much Seven Terraces - we really had the trip of a lifetime. Go before everyone else discovers it - you won't regret it.

Room Tip: All the rooms are brilliant, but if there are more than two of you, opt for the Argus Apartment - it...
