“historical place”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2013

it is a nice place to visit if you like china history. but for me, i found that it is nothing much to see there. Maybe is because I don't really know much on china history.

“A little bit of China History in Malaysia”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

Interesting to see the places that Sun Yat Sen had been to. Imagine standing in the same space a historical person occupied so many years ago!

“A welcoming museum”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2012

Not many museums have owners who welcome visitors like welcoming them to their home.

This was one of Dr Sun Yat Sen's bases in Penang. The museum is small but has quite a number of antiques (to the discerning eye). The owner very warmly shares his knowledge with visitors. Visitors are also welcomed have some tea and browse the collection of books.

“A walk into the Chinese revolution times.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2012

From the very first second I walked into the museum, I was impressed from head over heels over its preservation of history in the 137 years old mansion. This mansion is definitely a must-see place for all the people that are very passionate and enthusiastic about the modern Chinese industry. It has good documentations of how China ALMOST became a democratic country and also has some historical evidence that displayed the hardship that Mr. Sun encountered throughout his effort to fight for a democratic China. I admit this museum is not for everyone, you have to equip yourself with a certain level of understanding in the modern Chinese history to completely understand the big picture of this visit. Being a Mandarin speaker myself certainly helps a lot for myself in that. I can hardly spot any Westerners in the museum probably due to the fact that most of them don't even know who Sun Yat Sen is. But if you do, this place is an absolute heaven! The guide of the museum was extremely friendly, helpful, kind and very passionate about providing explanation and historical evidences to helping us to understand the museum and its history. The fact that he speaks very fluent Mandarin as well as English certainly helps a lot too! It's a good place to walk into by paying RM5 (which is totally worth it given it's used to upkeep the mansion). There're even free Chinese tea for us to sit down, relax as well as enjoying the history during a hot day! Highly recommended for modern Chinese history enthusiasts!
