Just came back yesterday.

This is a basic but clean hotel. The size of the standard room is quite spacious. Just turn left from the hotel entrance are mobile food stalls, coffee shops and further down are the upmarket shopping centre such as Avenue 1 and Time Squares. Mid market shopping centre Panglin Mall (not sure if i spelled correctly) is just next to Avenue 1.

Check-in was fast but not smooth. All room keys and rooms have been prepared for our group of 30 (15 rooms) when we arrived at about 4pm. However, the keys were not activated hence all the guests have to make a second trip down to the lobby to get their keys activated. As our groups were mainly elderly, this definitely posed inconvenience to them.

Wifi is free but not always easy to connect. Best time is early morning and late night.

Breakfast room is always full as there were several big tour groups over the weekend. We did not go for the breakfast hence no comment on the food. But if your room rate does not include breakfast, then dun bother topping up. There are lot of local breakfast options around especially the morning market area.

Housekeeping staff is friendly and smiley. But staffs at reception seem to prefer to interact among themselves than to with guests. When asked about direction, they have no idea and replied that we can just explore by walking further down. The guys at the travel counter were very nice to share some good places around the hotel but they were not always there.

I have not stayed in other hotels in Penang but if comparing to the standard of Malaysia's hotels of the same range, I would definitely come back again for the basic need.

1 point to note is there is a construction right next to the hotel hence the knocking and drilling noise is unavoidable during the daytime.

The hotel is clean and comfortable. It comes with breakfast, buffet style. If you are looking for a hotel instead of a guesthouse, this hotel consider a good choice as the facilities is sufficient and the price is reasonable. We have return to stay at this hotel for two times base on the price and the quality that you get.this will definitely our current choice for a budget hotel when we travel again to penang.

My stay at Hotel Sentral is a sweet surprise. Though I already read the good reviews about the hotel, experiencing it first hand is another thing. The room is clean, nice,and well equipped. Location wise- the best. Just walk outside , you'll find rows of hawker stalls. There's also a good Bah-kut-teh resto nearby. From the hotel, it's just a 10 minute walk to Komtar, where the bus terminal is. And yes, the free shuttle Cat bus stops just right at the corner of the street.....perfect. From the hotel, you can just walk all the way to the heritage sites. Just a tip, when in Penang, don't forget to see some, if not all, the murals in the walls of Georgetown. You'll be amazed. Too bad, I only stayed for a night, next time will definitely stay here again and for a longer time.

Security features and guard presence good. Did use the room safe to it's fullest.
Parking might be a challenge but got lucky every time.
Location very good and convenient for almost anything.
Setback loud live music from neighbor open air lounge.
Plus point song quality good (albeit mostly Chinese songs) since professional show.
The kids however slept quite well throughout.
Shower / WC could be better with "non slip" surfaces recommended.
