“Great for the price!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 12, 2013

My wife and I stayed in a double here at the start of march 2013. No complaints. We were in a double downstairs. No window. Air con worked fine. Free tea and coffee, nice communal area where the wi fi worked well. central georgetown location. Really helpful staff. It is essentially above average hostel accommodation in my mind. If you are expecting bargain hotel you will be dissapointed. I would stay again.

the inconsiderate and loud guests staying there. The building is old and has wooden floors upstairs as well as thin walls. Any time one of these certain guests walked by, it was like an elephant stomping down the hall. Totally of their own doing, its not difficult not to slam your heel down when you walk. If you stay here, please remember that.

Staff were nice, bathroom ok, pool table should just be free, breakfast was a miss.

Maybe the downstairs rooms are better, but if you are upstairs and a light sleeper, you are at the mercy of other guests.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2013

We stayed at Guest Inn Muntri for 3 nights in mid February, 2013 and overall, we had a great stay for the price. The bar/ reception area is modern and clean with lots of seating, a pool table, a fish pond, dimmed lighting and Jazz FM background music playing to add to the relaxed atmosphere. The wifi works excellently in the bar/ reception area.

We stayed in a standard double which was very basic but just what we needed. The rooms have simply a double bed, desk with stool and air conditioning. The shared bathrooms/ wet rooms were kept clean and tidy and the showers worked excellently.

The staff were all very friendly and were able to help with the questions we had. The guesthouse is centrally located about 10 minutes walk to Fort Cornwallis and the ferry terminal, 20 minutes walk to Komtar and 5 minutes to Red Garden Food Night market which sells excellent reasonably priced food and should not be missed.

The only slight downside about this guesthouse is the road outside. I have no idea what the reviewer below is talking about when they say it is on a quiet side street as it is anything but. The road might look like a small side street, but it is used as a main cut through all day every day meaning that even sitting outside having a drink during the day time is a challenge if you want to have any level of conversation with other guests.

We stayed in room J initially which has a window overlooking the road. At first we thought this was great as, except for room K next door, none of the other standard double rooms have outdoor facing windows. How wrong could we have been! We hardly slept because of the noise of the road-I live on a main road in England so am used to a degree of traffic noise, but this was at a whole new level! When we spoke to the staff the next day about it, they quickly moved us to a much quieter part of the guesthouse without a window (room V) which was a hundred times better-I got the impression they have this problem a lot.

But don't let the road noise turn you off as it really is only an issue in the front rooms (J and K) overlooking the road and the bar area if you are sitting near the door/ outside. Our overall stay we had at Guest Inn Muntri was excellent.

We stayed for 3 nights and were plesantly surprised. Our double room was basic and a bit small, with just a bed and desk, but the nice comunal area and clean shared bathrooms more then made up for it.The staff were very knowlegable and gave us pleanty of advice on where to visit and the best places to eat. The location was also good, close enough to reach most places easily, but on a nice quiet side street. Overall very enjoyable stay.

We spent three nights here as we explored Penang. The owner was very helpful in helping us navigate the island, showing us bus routes and different areas to explore. The hotel is clean and comfortable. The downstairs has a nice lounge area with free coffee and tea. The location is very good, steps away from bus routes and within walking distance of major areas in Georgetown. The hotel itself is quiet, located on a side street.

My sister and I traveled to cities in Malaysia and we stayed at five different hostels in total. Guest Inn Muntri is absolutely my favourite. When I walked to the place at the first time I thought it's quite far but just spent couple hours in the city , I found out that the location is very good. There are many buses to get to the hostel as well as buses to other tourist attractions. The room that I stayed has no window but clean. The staff are awesome. They are very friendly and helpful Especially Mr. Ooi :) He always approaches to guests to offer helps and information. Breakfast is nice. Common area is great because it has a very high ceiling and a pond. Totally love it !!!
