We stayed at Guest Inn Muntri for 3 nights in mid February, 2013 and overall, we had a great stay for the price. The bar/ reception area is modern and clean with lots of seating, a pool table, a fish pond, dimmed lighting and Jazz FM background music playing to add to the relaxed atmosphere. The wifi works excellently in the bar/ reception area.
We stayed in a standard double which was very basic but just what we needed. The rooms have simply a double bed, desk with stool and air conditioning. The shared bathrooms/ wet rooms were kept clean and tidy and the showers worked excellently.
The staff were all very friendly and were able to help with the questions we had. The guesthouse is centrally located about 10 minutes walk to Fort Cornwallis and the ferry terminal, 20 minutes walk to Komtar and 5 minutes to Red Garden Food Night market which sells excellent reasonably priced food and should not be missed.
The only slight downside about this guesthouse is the road outside. I have no idea what the reviewer below is talking about when they say it is on a quiet side street as it is anything but. The road might look like a small side street, but it is used as a main cut through all day every day meaning that even sitting outside having a drink during the day time is a challenge if you want to have any level of conversation with other guests.
We stayed in room J initially which has a window overlooking the road. At first we thought this was great as, except for room K next door, none of the other standard double rooms have outdoor facing windows. How wrong could we have been! We hardly slept because of the noise of the road-I live on a main road in England so am used to a degree of traffic noise, but this was at a whole new level! When we spoke to the staff the next day about it, they quickly moved us to a much quieter part of the guesthouse without a window (room V) which was a hundred times better-I got the impression they have this problem a lot.
But don't let the road noise turn you off as it really is only an issue in the front rooms (J and K) overlooking the road and the bar area if you are sitting near the door/ outside. Our overall stay we had at Guest Inn Muntri was excellent.
