“Good for the price”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 6, 2013

The suite was very large even for 3 adults, with a portable bed in the living room. The air-conditioning was not easily controlled but maintained a decent temperature, and the furniture seems a bit dated. The breakfast buffet was fairly large with both western and local choices.

Not a bad place to simply rest while spending the day/night elsewhere.

The suite is very spacious and at the price they are offering, it is certainly very good value for money.

Unfortunately that is the only good thing about this hotel. Although spacious, the room is in need of renovation. Expect things like worn furniture, air conditioning temperature that can't be controlled, door handles falling off, and toilets that don't flush properly.

Location wise, it is too far from any attraction for our liking. Apparently there's only 1 bus that passes this hotel...and very infrequently too. After waiting for it for more than 30 minutes, we finally gave up and took the taxi.

Breakfast was horrible and really bland. You'd be better off skipping it altogether and enjoy breakfast at local eateries. Service was average and acceptable.

Northam Suites was one of the best places to stay during a visit to Penang but it has since deteriorated beyond minimum standards. The rooms were no longer comfortable due to poor maintenance. Among those evident were defected floor boards, stained walls and the lingering smell of dampness. The service also seemed to have suffered. The duty manager was extremely rude when we asked for an extra towel. He simply shook his head and gave us a firm 'N O' instead of having the courtesy to explain the house rules. It is an extremely disappointing stay and 'N O' I will not be back !

We stayed at a junior suite which was very spacious. Checking in experience was very good and Mr. Bala at the front reception was very friendly and helpful. The entire staff at this hotel were very friendly and welcoming. Surprisingly very quite place in a city where the traffic is havoc. After a tiring day from the sight seeing trips a welcoming place to rest and relax. Good selection for breakfast and friendly staff with good service. We drove to this hotel from Singapore and the only down side we noticed at this hotel is the parking garage does not have elevator and need to walk through some not so clean stairs and doors to get to the lobby.

Room Tip: We stayed in a room wth sea view and it was quite and good view from the bed room

We stayed in 2 deluxe rooms which were very spacious. The 2 rooms were at the end of a corridor and a door before the end of the corridor can be closed to isolate the 2 rooms from the rest of the corridor and create 1 single large suite. The rooms were supposed to be non-smoking. However, one of the rooms stank of stale cigarette smoke. If you can ignore little things that need upgrading, this is one spacious and comfortable room. Love the huge bathroom and jacuzzi. The reception staff weren't too friendly and made some irritating mistakes. The F&B staff were much better! This hotel is located at the beginning of Gurney Drive and it is about 20 minutes walk to Gurney Plaza, the nearest shopping mall.

We stayed for two night in a non-smoking junior suite (was upgraded from standard suite upon check-in). Overall the room was spacious and clean. The view overlooking the ocean and English-colonial mansions was great. The infinity pool was a fantastic place to hang-around. However, there were some details that needed further improvement. For example, the wardrobe door that couldn't close properly, the Jacuzzi shower head and water tap that were out of synchronization, the malfunction air-cond's temperature controller and the collapsing ironing board. It would also make the suite more trendy if the TV sets can be upgraded to flat screen TV. Since our room is very near the elevators, we constantly had to endure the noise resulted from the moving elevator cables whenever the elevators were in use.

we booked the deluxe suite. the suite have two toilet, one in the room, and the other one is located near the entrance. which i found very convenience to let the guests of us to use the toilet without letting them going into the room. plus they have a very spacious living room , two tv set. maybe two queen size bed that can even fit four people. just cross the road and take bus number 103, you can go to gurney drive, komtar, and etc. Also there is a food court just opposite the hotel. the environment is acceptable. i especially like the bathroom, totally relaxing and enjoying. The staff of the hotel is helpful. and not to forget the awesome part of the hotel is the swimming pool. a must visit place.

Room Tip: room face the sea might have better enjoyment as compare to room face to town area.
