We had planned for a walking tour of the area so the location of this hotel was just perfect. Located at Lorong Baru, right downstairs was 2 rows of street food, you can't go hungry here. The supermarket was down the road less than a km away, so was Penang Times Square that is a bit too new to have much good stuff. It is also within walking distance of Mama's Nonya restaurant and other places to get good food so it was really convenient.
They were undergoing renovations when we went so that caused a bit of inconvenience in terms of the breakfast. The breakfast was served at the basement functions rooms and it can get really crowded at 9am, so avoid that time.
Reception: service was slow, it took a long time just to check in the 11 of us (in 5 rooms). They also did not bother much about requests for bed options - our colleague and her husband got 2 single beds instead of the queen bed, they did a swop with another 2 colleagues who got the queen bed instead. BTW, they claim that the bed is king size, but it really looks more queen size.
Room: The bonus was that the rooms were newly renovated so it was quite clean and new. Shower was also hot which is very inviting after a long day out. The toilet was quite big and spacious.
Facilities: If you like a morning swim, this is not the place for you. the pool is tiny, i would rather call it an oversized bath tub. and there are simply too many kids there crowding the place to have a proper swim. The gym was also closed for renovations during our visit.
I believe that once the renovations are done it will be much better. But then we didn't go there to get couped up in a hotel so those don't really matter to us. Will stay there again because the price is decent and the location is the best.
